All the students in room 15 teach and learn from each other. The challenges that are achieved are limited only by the restrictions of their own minds!

My favorite character of all the books I read this year is Annemarie. She was the star of Number the Stars. I would like to learn to be like her; she was very brave. I wouldn’t dare go through the woods knowing that there were German Soldiers lurking in the distance. Annemarie is adventurous and has a very big part in saving her best friend’s life and another Jewish family by sending them to Sweden in Uncle Henrik’s boat. I am sort of adventurous I guess, but no way am I close to being as adventurous as Annemarie. She is a fast runner and a very smart and determined girl Just like when she had to deliver a secret package that was in the picnic basket to Uncle Henrik. She even cried, which was a smart idea because the German soldiers believed that she wasn’t trying to sneak anything past them. She is a star shining bright, and if I could number her, I would number her number one.

My time at Westminster Woods was great, and I had loads of fun. My favorite trip was to the woods; there we played a very fun learning game called professor. I learned a lot of new information by going to each My time at Westminster Woods was great, and I had person in my group, and we played snapdragon, a game, at the end. My favorite activity was on the last day. We went to Dutch Bill Creek and searched for little creatures living in it. I especially liked learning about how the part of the trunk on the madrone tree with no bark could photosynthesize. A memory I will have until I’m old is the banana slug song that I sang at campfire on the first night. My naturalist was Lynx, and he showed and taught me almost everything. I liked going to Westminster Woods a lot; it was a great experience.

I think a miner’s life would be difficult, hard and not easy to survive if I lived back then. Miners lived in incredibly unsanitary conditions so there were many sicknesses passed around. Many people lost their lives, and I would not like to lose my life. The food was not nutritious, and it was disgusting, such as sowbelly, and sowbelly doesn’t carry all the nutrition our body needs. Miners rarely took showers and rarely brushed their teeth. The miners got very homesick. Sometimes they sent letters just to keep in contact. I would get extremely homesick if I lived there. Every day miners worked exceptionally hard. Miners either used pans, cradles or long toms. After a miner came home he would have supper, which he had to cook himself. Their daily meals were pig belly, or coffee and occasionally bear meat. Miners had no electricity so they would have to make fire. Sometimes their fire was left over night, and they burned the miner’s possessions. Miners faced extremely harsh living and anyone could say that, and it would be true.

I think Theodore Taylor dedicated The Cay to Martin Luther King because they are alike. In 1969 there was racism against blacks. In The Cay Timothy, Phillip’s friend, did not have many rights like Martin Luther King. He was not treated with respect for elderly people exactly like Martin Luther King. Timothy wanted peace, but he didn’t get it until he passed away like Martin Luther King. They both had people be prejudice against them. They both had very difficult lives. That is why I think Theodore Taylor dedicated it to Martin Luther King.
