Appplesace's awesome Blog I think Theodore Taylor dedicated The Cay to Martin Luther King because they are alike. In 1969 there was racism against blacks. In The Cay Timothy, Phillip’s friend, did not have many rights like Martin Luther King. He was not treated with respect for elderly people exactly like Martin Luther King. Timothy wanted peace, but he didn’t get it until he passed away like Martin Luther King. They both had people be prejudice against them. They both had very difficult lives. That is why I think Theodore Taylor dedicated it to Martin Luther King.
