Introduction paragraph:
In my perspective, 5th grade was so cool and fun. In 5th grade it takes a lot to survive, and I have some great tips. The expectations are high and there are some challenges, but if you listen and get your homework done, 5th grade will be easier for you. In Mr. McCartney’s class you will have a ton of time to socialize with different students during projects. There will be many favorite moments. From survival tips to favorite moments, 5th grade will for sure be a learning experience.
Survival Tips
2010-2011 5th grade are you exciting or what? 5th grade is fun but it is really hard so here are so survival tips to help you along the way. The 1st tip I have for you is always remember your planner. You need to remember your planner because all of your homework needs to be recorded in your planner so you don’t get home and find you are missing things and get a late. My middle survival tip is DON’T BLURT! You shouldn’t blurt because if you know the answer and blurt it out then someone else will not be able to answer the problem and also the other students won’t be able to go through the mental process. Also if your class talks too much there is a good chance your class will have assigned seats .My final survival is to LISTEN to DIRECTIONS! All the time teachers are giving good information that you need to know. Follow these tips and you will be golden.
Classroom Expectations
Classroom expectations are very big in 5th grade; these categories I have written about are big so read this carefully!J One classroom expectation is when the teacher is talking that you listen, one thing Mr.McCartney will say “it is one thing to hear but it’s another thing to listen.” So, pay attention and listen very closely. My center point of classroom expectations is getting your homework done!J If you don’t get your done you will spend a lot of time catching up on your homework at home, from the previous night and that night’s homework. Also, you will get a late. My last point to tell you is respect others and the school’s properties because it’s nice to be known as the person who is polite to everyone and the school’s property; and also if you are caught disrespect the school’s property by writing on the walls or something similar to that, you will get in HUGE trouble. Don’t forget these expectations and be respectful.
Challenges
Announcement so please read on; in fifth grade you will learn that it is bound to be easy, but here are some challenges that you will face. In 1st and 2nd quarter it will feel like you have a ton of homework, but on the bright side at the end of the year it won’t feel like that. But whatever you do, don’t get stressed because it makes the problem even worst, don’t get stressed. Another challenge is when you have a sport or activity and a lot of homework that same night. Do what you can and maybe when you get home don’t sit down and watch TV for an hour instead do your homework you will feel better at the end of the day if you go that way; you could also try to get it done during I.S.(Independent Study) and other work times. My last challenge is LATES! Yes lates. You knew this was coming didn’t you? Here’s why lates are a challenge. It’s a challenge because in 5th grade you get more responsibilities on top of homework and when you don’t get your homework done you get a late. Challenges are well challenges but it’s the way you deal with them that make them amazing.
Favorite moments
In 5th grade there were many funny, fun, and cool moments and projects here are some of my favorite moments and, or projects. One of my favorite moments was when the fifth grade was split into groups into 3-4 people per group for the Invertebrate Project. The Invertebrate Project was one of my favorite project is because my partners were funny and we got a lot of work done in the time that was given. My 2nd favorite subject was when we were writing stories. This was a fun time because my story writing can be on any topic and it’s a not only a good way to express who you are, it’s a great way express who you are! Also you can have any type of characters, main characters or not. My 3rd favorite moment is when we had written Mother’s Day Poems this was my favorite moment because when my mother read my poem to her she loved it and almost started to cry because she loved it so much. My final favorite moment is the TRACK MEET!!!! It was a favorite moment because it involved running (My favorite thing to DO!!) it’s was very fun, and when I was in the 400 meter the people in the stands were cheering by shouting, “Ellie!!!” “Ellie!!!!” It was so cool and fun. I really enjoyed fifth grade it was fun, it had very humorous moments. I hope that the 2010-2011 5th graders will like these moment as much I did.
Social
What is social? Social is a place or project where people talk and have a conversation with each other. Here are some examples of social places or project. My beginning social place is when you are in gym class, and if you are waiting in line. If, you are allowed to talk, talk with your classmates, learn about each other. Another social place is when you are at recess. Recess is an excellent place to talk with your friends and play a verity of games like; kick ball; 4 square; and football; when you are in line talk and maybe even become friends. Great social people can include your friends, too. But keep in mind that you aren’t the only one that wants to talk. My caboose (the end of a train) is a project in class; it’s a good social place. (Sometimes) You compromise with people; you can even use the subject as a conversation starter. Also, every time you get a project split the work in equal parts of how many people are in your group. Talking is one of my favorite hobbies and it is probably a favorite hobby of a lot of different people too. But sometimes you need to shut your mouth and listen to the teacher or the person who is talking. So, only talk when you are supposed to.
Closing Paragraph
In one year, a new class of 5th grade students might be writing essays just like this one. They probably will have some of the same thoughts as I do. The survival tips help us to think about how we can get through the tough times. The high expectations teach us to have high expectations for ourselves, the challenges help us to see that we can overcome obstacles, and the social skills we learn will help us in our future classes. There will be favorite moments that they never forget about 5th grade.

I come to work as well as play
I'll tell you what I do
I whistle all the live long day
whoooo-oooo whoooo-oooo
I toss the branches up and down
I shake them to and fro
I whirl the leaves in flocks of brown
And send them high and low
I strew the twigs upon the ground
The frozen earth I sweep
I blow the children round, round
And wake the flowers from sleep

Beats of the heart
Is like little bongos in your chest
It’s a pure melody of passion
It’s full of life
If you pay attention you will hear it
Its spirit is lively
With a spring in it beats
It comes to your ear with a leap
Its sound is elegant
With a little giggle here and there
It’s meek to hear
The taps, raps, swings
And follows the wind
Its energetic rhythm
Proceeds to your ear

2. Creativity because if you aren't creative how can you think out side the box. And Creativity is what makes a lot of us different. Also, when people are problem solving they need to be creative.
3. Ability to focus on their goals because if you can't focus on your goals, there is no way you can accomplish goals. So, if you have the ability to focus on your goals you can do anything.

Flowers are pretty like a delicate Spring Song
They sprout as if they were a turtle
They grow like little weeds with pedals
I think flowers have a little world
And when it rains the clouds are
Like a wild sprinkler in the sky
Also they talk by smelling different
They smell like happiness, sadness, existent, and more
Well if it won’t rain than that problem
I wish it would rain from head to bottom
Please have it rain oh I’m tired of sun
All I want is to have is to have some fun!
The flowers they’ll freeze
When cold winter breeze, fills the air
No one will see them outside
But yet they will come and be so pretty
Come spring again the flowers will sprout
Everyone will scream and shout
FOR FLOWERS,
FOR FLOWERS they are here!!!!
THE ENDS!!

Flowers
Flowers are beautiful
They bloom in the spring
They have leaves maybe, one, two, or three
Then boom in a flash they are growing in the ground
They start in the ground as a tiny seed
They are pretty and elegant
Some are thin some are fat
I like flowers and that’s a fact

See the pretty snowflakes
Falling from the sky;
On the wall and housetops
Soft and thick they lie.
On the window ledges,
On the branches bare;
Now how fast they gather,
Filling all the air.
Look into the garden,
Where the grass was green;
Covered by the snowflakes,
Not a blade is seen.
Now the bare black bushes
All look soft and white,
Every twig is laden,
What a pretty sight!

And what did I see was a little birdie.

“You have mail!” The computer told me as I was reading “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” I walked over to the computer and I was hoping it was my old friends from Elementary school, Jessica and Maddie. It was both of them.
Guess what? I just got the email from the Winter Olympic Officials and they said I made it to the Winter Olympics! From: Jessica
That is great, Jessica!! You are so lucky. I wish I could come! From: Caroline
You should!!! The last couple years in the winter when we were skating you had so many good tricks. From: Jessica
I think I will try out! But I will need a new set of figure skating moves. From: Caroline
I picked up the phone and called the Winter Olympic officials. “Hello. This is Caroline Rush and I would like to try out for the Winter Olympics,” I told the operator.
“That is great, dear.” Now where do you live so I can give you the closest location to try out for the Winter Olympics? What is the event you are doing?” the operator asked.
“I live on Summer Avenue, San Francisco, California, and the event is figure skating,” I answered excitedly.
“Well, the closest location I am picking up is at San, Francisco, California, in the ice rink on 20th Street at 2:30 tomorrow. Sorry, this short notice but that is the only time available.” The operator spoke like it was her fault.
“It is fine. It is really my fault. I should have called sooner.”
“Can you sign me up?” I asked.
“Yes I can. But you will have to pay $50.00.”
“Okay, I will be there!”
“Bye,” I said about to jump up and down with delight.
“Bye, dear, and good luck,” the operator said.
So, I walked to the computer and emailed Jessica and told her that I have try outs. She was glad for me. Maddie also made it to the Winter Olympics. I went to the try outs and it was so fun. The Winter Olympic officials said they would get back to me the next day. I think I did a good job because all of my turns were light as a feather but full of joy, fun, and excitement. I woke up the next morning, and on the computer, it said, “You have mail.”
Dear Miss Caroline Rush,
We looked at your skills and balance and you are invited to the winter Olympic Games in Chicago, Illinois, if you are willing to consider this offer? Call us or email if you are coming or have questions or anything else.
Phone # (443)453-9087
Email: WinterOlympics@hotmail.com
That night I called the Winter Olympics officials and said, “Hello. This is Caroline Rush, and I will consider in coming to the Winter Olympic Games.”
“Okay, Miss Rush. You can see when your flight leaves on our website. Bye and good luck,” he said with confidence and hung up.
I looked at the website and it said that my plane was at 9:30 a.m. I was to be on plane 34 in two days, and the air port was South West Air Lines. I got all of my stuff together, like my clothes, tooth brush, hair brush, and a lot more. I fell asleep at 8:00 p.m. that night. The next morning, I got on the plane. When I got there I would meet Maddie and Jessica at the Olympic Village! I was excited to see them after so many years!
I got to the Olympic Village and hugged Maddie and Jessica. “Hi, I’m so glad to see you guys!” I shrieked in an excited way. We all hugged and talked till the night was over. The next day it would be the first Winter Olympic Game! I woke to the sounds of people rushing around. When we got into the Olympic Stadium, I smiled all over. I kept going through the lines of figure skaters, bobsled athletes, ice dancers, speed racers, ice hockey players, excited fans, and more. The first Olympic event was about to start and I was up. I got a silver medal and Maddie got the gold. Then Jessica got the bronze. All through the games it was Maddie, Jessica, and I all switching through medals; sometimes I would get a gold medal; Jessica would get a silver medal and Maddie would get the bronze, and back and forth the medals would go.
“Maddie Wild! Ladies and gentlemen.” The announcer said. She did amazing and was elegant with her turns, toe loops, flips, and Lutz jump. She was skating and fell as she was doing her finale. It was her biggest move, the triple axle. Then she fell so badly that she broke her ankle. It was a sad sight to see her leg was bleeding so badly that I could see blood on the boot of the shoe. It was also the semi finals. If she wouldn’t have got hurt, she could have made it to the finals like Jessica and me. The doctor said, “She broke her ankle.”
I and Jessica visited her every day in the hospital. But we couldn’t deny that we were the finals. That night was the scariest. The feeling of maybe not seeing a friend again is sad and scary. Then Jessica and I went to the finals the next day. It was close, so close that the judges had to talk three times, about the competition between all the figure skaters. The winner of the winter Olympic Games is Jessica in first and Caroline in second. Then last, but not least, Maddie Wild is third.
Everyone gasps, “What? How can that be? She fell and broke her ankle?” The announcers said, “That is true, but she had the best out of any of the other contestants in the finals except for Jessica and Caroline of course. The whole figure skating committee voted and Maddie was the winner. So, the Winter Olympic officials put a video camera in her room to see her reaction.” They put the video on the big screen, and there was Maddie in the bed crying with tears of joy.
So, all in all, a good ending!
The End

What I did over Thanks Giving Break
What I did over Thanks giving break was on Thursday I went to my Grandma’s house on my Mom’s side and had thanks giving there and I rejected my sweet Potatoes because they are disgusting in my opinion. So, my Mom ate them instead. Then for the turkey my Grandparents injected seasoning into it.
Then on Friday I went to this light show with arch ways that were like upside down U.(ΩΩΩΩΩΩ) As I was looking at the lights my Mom and Grandma were talking about this new album that they had just got and I interjected, “I love listening to this Christmas music while I look at these lights.
On Saturday I went to my Dad’s mom and dad’s house and I got to see my cousins. I read on the way down to their house. We ate there. It was very fun with all my family and I even got to see my dad’s cousin from Colorado.
On Sunday I just stayed home and cleaned my. But we didn’t have time to put up our Christmas decorations.

Some of the setting are when their Uncle Monty’s house and in Mr. Poe’s car on the too Uncle Mony’s house but I am not very far in the book so there maybe more. What I Learned About the 13 Colonies
What I learned about the 13 colonies is that the reason that most people came to North America is because they were seeking religious freedom. A lot of the people came to North America from England. The thirteen colonies were Massachusetts Bay, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. I learned the three regions which are New England Colonies, Middle Colonies, and Southern Colonies. I learned Massachusetts and Maine were a state. The Indians helped most of the people in the colonies. Some key people who settled in the area were James Oglethorpe, Thomas Hooker, and Anne Hutchinson. The people had to use the resources that were available in their colony. Two key reasons people left to form a new colony were farming and because of freedom. I learned that indigo was a flower that produces blue dye.

I’m excited for the race in town. It where all of the Huskies race and it’s absolutely fun with the curves around the lake just so amazing! And it is going started in less than 10 seconds and weir off! Everyone is cheering for me. The Huskies and I are work their tails off and it is -20*F. The wind is blowing in my face which smarted me so bad. But I can take it. Me and the huskies are in 5th than 4th than 3rd than 2nd but the next challenger would be difficult. It was Kristin the best of the best the champions of champions!!!! She had won 3 years in a row. Then she slowed down and I wondered why? She had a suffering Lead Husky named Maya who was 2 years old. But it looked like she would make it. Guess what? I won and Maya survived!
THE END!!!
