The state of Maine, and the state of New Hampshire were arguing about what they are going to do with the Memorial Bridge. The Memorial bridge is an old and rusty bridge, that stands above the water, connecting to Kittery ME,and Portsmouth NH. It needs to be repaired. The people of Maine did not want to fix it or pay for it, but they wouldn't mind making it be a bridge for walkers and bikers only, and no cars. But, the state of New Hampshire said no, that would be too problematic for traffic. So New Hampshire is going to pay for repairs. The bridge is only going to last for about 2-5 years. It rises up to about 170 feet, when it needs to be lifted. It was dedicated in 1923 to the Veterans of World Ward I. The feet of the bridge have sunken in about 82 feet into the bedrock. The bridge is only one bridge out of the three bridges in the Piscataqua river. The other two are the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge, and the Piscataqua River bridge. In the summer, the bridge goes up about every half an hour to let boat traffic go under. The bridge will soon be repaired and will be safer for traffic going over.

- The backround is kind of like a design based on the cover of the book that I read.
- I read Inkheart, a fantasy book.
- Up to the top right corner is a drawing that I did of the main character, Meggie.
- I made a gun and bullet because it is one of the weapons that the use a lot.
- I drew a book shelf and a book representing their love for books.
- It is based in england, so I brought in a Union Jack flag.
- It is set in a fores like place so I made a stick.

DI Storm Story

Last Friday, I was at a DI competition. I was there to support my sibling, and my classmates on her team. We were there all day since very early in the morning. In the middle of the day, the team was outside playing under the stands that seat people. We came out and found them and started playing around. After about 10 minutes it started to hail and whip sleet in our faces. It got so bad that we ran behind cars, and then ran back into the building. When we got back inside, we were all red and all wet. But after that, the DI team came in 2nd place and are going to states!

One day I went skateboarding and went down a ramp. It was my first ramp to go down, but I blew it by falling and landing on my leg. I fell on my itouch, but luckily it was fine. My leg killed for a few weeks, but then it healed and the black and blue color went away. Now I am always carefull of my posture on my board.

Romans and Celtic Journal

|
I am a Celtic warrior. My name is Teave. I have been trying to defeat the Romans, along with my army for so long now. We do not have spears like the Roman warriors have, so we use long stick-like weapons for slashing and cutting. I am a rival with Rome, I do not like them, and they do not like me. Sometimes though, some of the people in my village want to get on with the Romans, and make peice with them. But, others want to take over Rome. We know that we will not dominate the Romans, or even take their land, but we still fight. We wish that things will change and we will fight for honor and victory. I live in the village. The village lays in the middle of a circular gate. The village can hold up to around 500 houses. Some houses have Carnyx's on the top of the doorway. A Carnyx is a sculpture made of bronze, it is usually in the shape of a wild creature. In the center of the village, there is a fire pit. The fire pit is used to melt iron and make armour and weapons. Usually, older and wiser people would stand by the fire and tell stories to the younger people. In the village is also a grain pit. The grain pits are basically under ground places where we can store stuff. Another part of my clothing is a torc. A torc is a piece of jewelry, made out of copper and bronze. Our helmets are put on the top of our heads and are made with leather and metal, to protect our skulls from getting damaged.
We also use small stones to sling at the Roman warriors. We hold tall shields in our hands, that we use to deflect spears that get thrown at us. We steel a lot of weapons from other soldiers, to use against them. Our boots are made of leather, and the Romans boots are made of thick material, for safety. The Roman Armour is more advanced than our armour. Their body armour is called Lorica, which is one of their most important piece of armour they have. They throw spears at us during battles. Their spears are also called Pilum, or Hasta. Their Pilums have a 10 inch long point at the top that is made of iron. The Romans throw them about 90 feet away from them, and try to hit their target. They where Cassis's on the top of their heads. It is a helmet, that is lined with fur. The helmet protects their skull's from getting damaged. They hold up a Scutum, or a shield in their hand's. Their Scutums are made of wood. They used Scutums for protection, and so they would not get stabbed or hit by rocks that we throw at them. They carry a Saccus in their other hand, which is also called a kit bag. The Saccus carries a supply of food and tools to keep them safe for about three days while they travel. The Saccus carries 27 kilos, or 60 pounds.
The Romans live a bit differently from us. The Romans lived in between four walls, about ten feet high, made of terf. The walls are also called Vallums. The entry to the village is by the gates, or Portae. There are four gates in total, one on each wall. The gates are made of wood, and have a tower over the top of it, for gaurds to watch the people enter. Right infront of the walls are Fossae, or ditches. Any intruder who tried to sneek in would fall into the ditches, and get injured. Around the walls are distant slabs, or Miliariums. Miliariums are stones that are put up onto walls to record what events they do. In the village, there is the Balneae (the bath house,) the comanders house (Praetorium,) the workshops (Fabricae,) the head quarters (Principia,) and the Barracks which are also called Centuriae. The Centuriae is where the people sleep. The Romans are a bit different from us, the Celtics. But, we have some similarities.

We learned about our space address. We live in the North-West Hemisphere on the earth, in the sol, in the galaxy, in local, and in another local! My love for you is as big as going to pluto from the sun and back.
We learned about air pressure. When we are in the low's, and have lousy weather, you come and make it high, and make happy weather.
We learned about the fastest thing in the world, which is the speed of light. But, my love for you goes even faster than the speed of light.
We learned about clouds. There are many different types of clouds. There is cyrus clouds, which are very high up in the sky and very thin. There are stratus clouds, long, wide clouds. We learned about cumulus clouds, big, puffy clouds. Also nimbus cloud, which are storm clouds, and even fog. Fog is infact a low to the ground, type of fog. When I am under a nimbus cloud, you come and clear up the bad weather.
Roses are red, violets are blue, 1 million light years come no where close to how much I love you.

Fog by the Sea

You can enter the text of your blog here!
The stillness of the fog
slowly creeping
up upon the
tree tops.
The moaning of the
buoys bustling
in the
sea.
The haziness of the
forests floors,
and the
water vapor hovering
over the water,
shortly
spraying a loon that
has passed by.
A sky so
dark
with the backdrop of the
trees, so gloomy and
mysterious,
slowly
mixing in with the
mustiness of
the fog.
The mildew on the grass
that sits on the settled
slits of greens after
a long foggy
night.
The cold air jumps around
the sky like a dancer,
dancing in the
night.
The fog is so thick, that
the twinkling of
the stars are
hidden,
like rocks below the water.
The sea glimmers in the
night, then glows
when dawn hits.
The moon is full
tonight, but is
hidden by the
fog and the
the trees.
The
fog thickens, drowning out the sound
that the little creatures of the forests
makes. The sun is creeping up,
leaving a sympathetic
reflection on the
water, and
the
Branches, high
up in the
trees.

London train workers on strike

Good day, I am a teenager with some major complaints about the British train companies. However this also concerns the workers. I believe that the train workers in England should stop going on strike. It is much quicker to get around by train, than by bus. The reason that I feel like this is simply because I had a delay when I recently visited the U.K.. My mum discovered that the train workers had gone on strike again so, we had to find a last-minute ride to Norwich from London.
Taking the train is much better for the environment. If people take the train, that would lead to less cars that would be polluting the area. If the train workers go on strike at the last minute, then the people would have to find another way of transportation.
People would be able to get around England faster. It would take about an hour to get from London, England to Norwich, England by train, but it would be about 4 ½ hours by taking the bus. If people need to get to work and they need to take the train, then they would be late, if they went on strike that day. This might also concern tourists who would like to take the train around and that don't have another way of transportation.
Keeping the trains running would be better for the train companies. If the train companies paid the workers more money, then they would have to raise the price of the train tickets, and they would get more money. The people would not get mad at the train companies or the workers, so it would be easier for everyone. If the workers get paid more, then they can support their financial life.
Another concern is that these workers are being fired from their jobs, and they are going on strike because of that. For example, November 5th, 2009 in Philadelphia, PA (USA), some of the train workers got fired so they decided to go on strike, and it got so out of hand that they ended up killing some innocent people. It was their 3rd day on strike.
Overall, it would be easier for the people to take the train, so that they would not be late or have to plan last-minute ways to get around.

A few weeks ago, a man named Joe Flood came into the Rye Jr. High school to talk to the 7th grade students. Joe has been coming into the school for several years, and visits a lot of other schools to talk to students about drugs and alcohol. Joe Flood is a 70 year old sober alcoholic that went down the wrong path in life. Joe lost his family, his home, his business, and friends all because of drugs and alcohol. He talks to students about how drugs and alcohol can mess up your life, and if you are not careful, it can kill you.
When Joe flood was 13, he got hooked on drugs, and when he was 15, he got into alcohol. By the time of high school, he was an alcoholic and a drug addict. He then went to collage and got a great job as a hotel manager . He had a lovely wife and six children. But he lost all of that to lying about his alcohol problems. He did drugs behind his family's back 's and lost his family, and his job.
He talked to us about our brain and how it has six rooms in it. He also talked to us about how we could kill ourselves with alcohol by choking on our vomit. Joe flood is a man who can really change your opinion on what you think of drugs and alcohol. He has a sad story, and does not wish that that will soon turn into our lives. He talks to us, not to manipulate our doings, but to knowledge them.

What we are doing in math

Dear Mum,
Hello. We have been learning a lot in math! We are learning theoretical and experimental probability. What that is, is theoretical probability means to know what a fraction is out of an amount of large numbers for example, if I have 30 guitar picks, and 10 of them were red, 9 of them were blue, and 11 of them were green, then my probability would be 20 over 60 for red, 18 over 60 for blue, and 22 over 60 for green because we would double the numbers. Experimental probability is actually doing the experiment and then writing down what you got in a fraction form. For example, if I were to pick out of the same bag 60 times, and I got 20 reds, 30 greens and 10 blues, then it would be, 20 over 60 for red, 30 over 60 for green and 10 over 60 for blues. We would then compare our experiment probability with our theoretical probability and say the differences that we see. In this case, the differences are that we got 10 over 60 for blue and our theoretical probability was 8 away. For the green, we got 30 over 60, but for our theoretical probability it was 8 more than our theoretical probability. For the red we actually got the same amount for both our theoretical and experiment probability.
We have also been learning exponents. Exponents are simply only exponential form and standard form. Exponential form is when you write out a whole problem. For example, 3x3x3 would be in exponential form. Standard form is when you write it out in a shorter way. For example, 3 to the 3rd power. Then, you would solve it. It would be 18 for the answer.
We also worked on our graphs. We used bar graphs and line graphs. We worked on figuring out which graph to work on with different information. We took a take-home-test on stocks. We found out all of the information on them, and passed it in about a week later. We looked at the map to find the vertical and horizontal sides name. It was a very good module.
Sincerely,
Whab

Through all of their troubles and all their fears,
our town of rye has brought us here.
We cherish their moments but stop to live ours,
and time is short just look at our cars.
How rye has changed in many ways,
we look back at their very days.

Interesting Space Info

The Earth and it's surrounding's are very interesting. The Earth, Venus, Mercury, and Mars are actually closer to the sun then you would think. Mercury, the first of the planets is the closest to the sun.
A scientist named Bode was the first person to find out a trick to find how far the planets are from the sun in inches. He did 0 + 4 divided by 10, which came out to 0.4 inches from the sun on a piece of paper, that is for mercury. He continued to do the same thing, but only he went up and did 3 + 4 divided by 10, and then by 6, 12, 24, 46, and so on. After that they found out how far the planets are in space. Some scientists think that Pluto is not a planet because they think that it is one of Neptune's moon's but somehow they collided and bumped each other far away, and that's why they are so far away. The trick that Bode came up with is not quite exact, they think this is because where the calculations add up, where the planets should be are no planets. Like in between Mars and Jupiter there is an asteroid belt.
