So Much Depends Upon Poems

Article posted March 3, 2011 at 08:01 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 707

Dollar Bill
So much depends upon
A wrinkled dollar bill
Laying on the filthy floor
Beside the toxic garbage bin

Chicken Wing
So much depends upon
A spicy chicken wing
Marinating in the gooey ranch
On the stove in a pot

Termites
So much depends upon
A swarm of termites
Tearing the willow in fragments
Under the bright blue sky

Worm
So much depends upon
A squirming worm
Tucked under a leaf
Munching on some leftover debris

Recess

Article posted March 2, 2011 at 02:58 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 744

During recess we are having problems because some teachers don't know the new rules that Mrs. Branch made. 5C my class always goes last with 5D because of the ABC order. I think that the line that is most quiet and ready should go first regardless of the ABC order.I personally think this will work.

The Cardiovascular System

Article posted December 9, 2010 at 08:09 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 896

The Cardiovascular System

1.      The four chambers in your heart are the left and right ventricle and the left and right atrium.

2.      The heart is a muscle.

3.      Your heart is an organ.

4.      The aorta is the largest artery in your body.

5.      Capillaries branch out of your arteries.

6.      Veins hold deoxygenated blood.

7.      When you inhale you get oxygen in your blood.

8.      Your aorta sends oxygenated blood all around the body.

9.      Eat healthy food so you can have a healthy heart.

10. The pulmonary vein and artery do the opposite of their job.

11. The superior and inferior vena cava brings deoxygenated blood to the right atrium.

12.  You can live with a punctured lung.

13. Your heart is a really tough organ.

14. There are three kinds of blood vessels.

15. Cordetta’s are string like structures.

16.  There is a very thick muscle that separates your left and right side of your heart which is the septum.

17. The veins take the blood to the heart and the arteries take the blood from the heart.

18.  Fried food clogs your arteries.

19. Your deoxygenated blood is kind of blue and oxygenated blood is red.

20. Blood carries oxygen around your body.

21. Lungs have a pink color to the outside of it.

22. Smoking turns your heart and lungs black.

23. There are 2 types of cholesterol the HDL which is the good cholesterol and the LDL which is the bad cholesterol.

24. Eating fruits with high anti-oxidants brings down the LDL and brings up the HDL.

25. You can live with an artificial heart.

First you inhale and get oxygen in your blood. Second your oxygenated blood goes via your pulmonary veins into your left atrium. Third you’re left atrium contracts opening the bicuspid /mitral valve. Fourth sending blood to your left ventricle. Fifth your left ventricle does a big contraction sending oxygenated blood via your aorta and all around the body. Sixth your body sends the deoxygenated blood back to your right atrium via your superior and inferior vena cava. Seventh your right atrium contracts sending blood through the tricuspid valve to the right ventricle. Eighth the right ventricle sends deoxygenated blood via your pulmonary artery to your lungs.

The Visitors

When the dietitian Jeannette Karam came to my class we learned about what we should eat daily and what food is good for you. She said sea food is good for you because it has a lot of omega three. We learned about the food pyramid and all of its parts, which are the protein, fruit, vegetable, dairy and wheat and of course the most important part of it the unhealthy part. Well the unhealthy part was not so nice to me after she told the class about what it does to the body. When you boil vegetables a lot of the vitamins go.

My dad Dr. Antoine Abchee came to talk to us about the cardiovascular system in the same day. He told us about cigarettes and what they do to your body. We learned that it is possible to put a mechanical heart in the human body. We saw the septum in the small heart he brought us and we discovered that the septum is much thinner than we imagined. If you have too much fat around your heart it will be really hard for it to pump. If you are an organ donor, for example if you are in a car accident they have to directly take you to the hospital and do the transplant.

I Made a Mistake

I went to the mall to buy a blouse

I made a mistake… and went to my house

I went to the barn to get some hay

I made mistake… and said yay

I went to eat at Burger King

I made a mistake… and I saw a bee that wanted a sting

I went to a place that looked like a farm

I made a mistake… and broke my arm
