Slip
It was humid that spring,
out on that icy little bridge,
In choking of mist,
the day that I slipped.
Almost falling forever,
until something I grabbed,
seized the sensation of nothingness,
with the falling,
and the scaryness.
My hands were so cold,
at the beginning of spring,
for winter just passed,
the birds started to sing.
Around my head they went,
those pretty little birds,
which were the last thing I saw,
and the last thing I heard.

Freegans and Consumers

In our science class, we watched a series of films about keeping out earth alive and healthy. There were three films that we watched, and they were all very interesting to me. In the next two paragraphs, I am talking about the Freegans, and us, the consumers of products.
The freegans were by far the most interesting topic of all of the other sections of the waste video, and they are inspiring people all over the world. Freegans are people who eat from only the trash of other people, and usually are found in cities. Almost everyone asks “Why don't the freegans ever get sick from all of the trash they eat?” The truth is, what the freegans are eating is not really trash. They usually only eat things that are still fresh and/or sealed. How is this possible, wasn't it in the trash? Well, yes it was, but lots of store-owners throw away things that wont expire for weeks! There is even a law that if a piece of cooked food is left out for more than twenty minutes it must be thrown away. Can you even imagine how much god food is thrown away every day? Think about all of the food chains like McDonalds, and Burger king, that have to follow this law. Well, I suppose this is a good thing for the freegans, in front of food chains like this are usually where they are found! Another common question people ask about the freegans is, “Are the freegans poor?” The answer is, almost no freegans are poor, in fact, they don't have to pay an average of 100$ on food each week like we do, they are saving money, they never have to buy anything!
My next paragraph is about us, consumers. Everybody is a consumer, some people even say we are even consumers when we are in our mothers womb! We buy things that we don't need every day. The target of big company owners are all of us kids. They like to make new fashion after new fashion, so we keep buying what is “hip”, or “cool.” They actually try to make us feel embarrassed by wearing last months fashion of clothes, or yesterdays cool shoes, so we keep buying from then. A great example of this is Sketchers shoe brand. Have you noticed how often they come out with new things? First its “Hidi's Hi-Tops” and then “Pretty tall Shoes”, and even “Twinkle toes!” It's like week after week of new things so you will spend more money! Some marketers actually watch smaller kids play and do other things to see what they like. Some marketers even watch them in the bathroom, but don't worry, no one will ever do that to you. All of the things I have said in this paragraph are very important, so don't forget!

Weather Story
Once, when I was about 4 years old, it was a bright sunny day. It was so beautiful out, I asked my mom if she would take me to the park to fly my new Winnie The Pooh kite. Of, course, she said yes because she wanted some exercise too. She said she wanted to get some different clothes on, and for me to wait there. After five minutes of waiting for my mom I got bored and looked out the window, and it was still a sunny and beautiful day. I walked over to the other side of the house and looked out the window there, and it was pouring! I sprinted back to the other side of the house and it was sunny again! I had never seen anything like that before, and I got really scared and I ran upstairs to my mom who was also amazed at this weird weather split. She told me it's okay and I went back downstairs and it was all sunny again and there was a giant rainbow arching over the Merrimack River, so I ran back upstairs and screamed to my mommy,
“LETS GO LOOK FOR THE POT OF GOLD AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW!!!”
She said that she would rather go to the park, and my mom told me to get in the car, and that she would be “right there”, so I went. Finally she came and buckled me into my car seat and we started driving to the park, and it started to hail! I had never seen hail before either, so I started crying. When we got to the park my mom calmed down, and it was all sunny again. After we got home from the park the whole process started over again, with the sun on one side, and raining on the other.
NOT KIDDING!

For my Language arts speech project, I talked about my trip to a big mansion in palm beach. It was actually the most expensive house in the world at the time. I was a little bit scared about what people would think of it, but once I got up there and started talking I was perfectly fine.

Olympic Figure Skating; Singles

In the Olympics, figure skating is by far the most graceful sport; some people even call it “ballet on ice.” It involves cool music, exciting costumes, and lots of cool moves that take years: and years of practice. There are nine judges that assess the competitors, but it is drawn which ones will actually take part in the final score. In each segment there are new judge representatives drawn to make the competition fair. The singles athletes compete in two segments: the short program, and the free-skate which has to be at least four minutes long. In these events the competitors are condemned based on three things: creativity, innovative moves, and their technical difficulty. All of the judges need to pay very close attention, to get a good idea of what they are going to score them. Sometimes they even have to refer back to a television screen, which shows particular parts of the skaters’ performance in slow-motion. Although figure skating looks easy, and seems so effortless, it is extremely hard, and it takes years just to learn the basics.
Before the Olympics, the athletes have to train, usually for most of their previous lives. They work on jumps, spins, and other technical things. One of my favorite jumps is called the axel. An axel is one of the only jumps when you begin skating forward and you end skating backwards. You make either one, two, or three revolutions and then one-half of one, and you have to jump high in the air. One of my other favorite tricks is called the sit-spin. A sit-spin is when you start spinning upward and then you gradually move into the sitting position, on one leg with your free leg extended. Olympians customarily train for three hours per day all year round, and they choose their own choreographers: to make their routines. A really good figure skater will video themselves while they practice, and re-play it in slow motion, kind of like their judges, and pick out all of their mistakes and perfect them. This is a very good strategy for figure skaters, since they get evaluated on every move they make.
This year in the Olympics, there was a man named Evan Lysacek who won the gold medal for the men’s singles. Evan got started figure skating in a surprising way. When he was six or seven, his grandmother unexpectedly bought him a brand new pair of un-used figure skates, so he decided to try them out. He loved figure skating so much; he followed his new dream, and become a famous figure skater. To me Evan is really inspiring, and I want to become a famous figure skater also.
Another world-famous figure skater's name is Kim Yu-Na. Kim is from Korea, and she also won a gold medal this Olympics, with a flawless performance in every program. She got her inspiration to be a figure skater when she was very young also. She was skating at a small arena, and doing tricks that she made up. A young man then went up to Kim's mother, and told her, her little girl "had talent." After, her mom got Kim figure skating lessons, and she also followed her new dream, and became a skater too. Being a figure skater is a lot of fun, but you have to work very hard, in order to follow your dreams.

Romans in Scotland
I am a soldier in the roman army. We have all types of weapons and clothing that we have to wear. Last week we captured the Celts at the land above us. We are both very diverse, and do things differently. We have different clothes, weapons, and ways of life. We are so diverse that it is easy to compare us, here I’ll show you.
In the Roman army, we have short swords, or gladius’s that are easy to transport and are strictly used for stabbing and thrusting. Of course, the Celts are completely different. They have long swords that are used for cutting and slashing and they are hard to run with. We also have different protection gear. Here in Rome, we like to have good armor, including a breast plate (lorica), and a shield. The Celts have a shield too, but is has a different composition and they do not have any armor. These are only some of the things that are different, but they are the most important.
There are some things that are relatively the same about us and the Celts though, for example; our clothing. Both us and the Celts wear woolen shirts pants, or capes, only the Celts dye them bright colors. We also both have swords, helmets, and shoes, even though our shoes are more surpassing.
It has been a couple of months since we captured the Celts now, and they are getting more and more similar to us by the minute. Some of them are even joining into our way of life. Personally, before we conquered them, I think they were not civilized at all. Well, that is all I know, we are both very diverse, and the same in different ways, and it is interesting to see, and learn how interesting we all are.

WINDMIRE GHOST

The Windmire ghost
along the banks of Windmire,
a town that's greatly feared.
I was there in that fire,
that burnt it to a drear.
All lived,
but one died,
and now I'm on my own.
So now I haunt this little town,
until December's gone.
Oh how I miss those winding streets,
lined with shops and stores.
But now it's all just history,
gone forever more.
I also miss my family,
I cant find their familiar face,
I've looked for them years already,
but heaven's a great big place.

Martin Luther King's

Martin Luther King's speech was very inspiring, and affected many people in those times and today. In 1963 the people were free of slavery, but the black people were still treated unfairly. “I have a dream, that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they are not judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character, I have a dream today...” In the section of the speech, Martin made a very good point, that he wanted all men to be created equal. I think that Martin Luther King Jr. was very brave to stand up and recite his speech, it was a great influence to other people, and it made his dream come true.
