Columbus Controversy

Article posted June 14, 2010 at 03:29 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1502

We celebrate Columbus day in the US on the second Monday in October. He reached the New World in 1492 and changed the world overnight so to speak. There are mixed feelings about whether we should continue to celebrate Columbus Day. You can find many reasons of this everywhere. I think that we should not celebrate Columbus Day.
I don't think that the us should celebrate Columbus Day. The first reason is that he committed more crimes than ways he helped Europe. Also, he enslaved and exploited the native people on the island he landed on. The third reason was he wasn't even the first to discover the new world, there was Leif Ericson and the people who crossed the land bridge. So he doesn't even deserve to have a day in his honor. Those are the reasons I think that we should not continue to honor Columbus Day.
The Columbus Day controversy has been going on for a while and I think it should come to an end. So we can all be happy and just drop the subject and look to better things like health care. I think that Columbus could have conquered the new world in a more humane way instead of enslaving and exploiting them and just making the natives scared of him. Well that is what I think about the Columbus day controversy.

Higgins Armory Essay

The Higgins Armory Museum has the largest private collection of medieval items in the world. The Armory is a great experience for young and old minds alike. In the Higgins Armory Museum they teach you about all different kinds and styles of armor. In the first 20 minutes you can learn the Three different types of armor.

The first type of armor is Combat armor. This is the armor used in battle and war. Combat armor consists of A breast plate, Helmet, Cod Piece, Chain Mail, Arm Guards, Leg guards, shoe guards, a shield, sword, lance or other weapons. Though this armor was extremely heavy it was still possible to run, jump, jog and even crawl. The armor until earlier times was put on heavily and would stop a good blow from an opponent. This armor was very effective.

The next type is Tournament armor. This armor was used for Horse jousting and foot jousting. This armor consists of a very thick breast plate, a helmet that you had to lean forward to see through it. They have this so splinters cant fly through the hole and injure the opponent. The armor also consists of thick arm and leg guards and the last piece was the large chest/arm guard. This was a Thick plate of armor with a spike in the center. The center was used to aim at by the opponent if they hit this with the lance it would shatter and that was a good thing. That is the reason for the design of the helmet.those are the basics of tournament armor.

The last type and most popular armor was the parade/party armor. This consisted of all the same things that the combat armor has but is very much more intricate and designed. Suits like this were only owned by rich people showing off or royalty. One suit depending on the size could span from $100,000- upwards of $900,000. These suits were made for young children, babies and even pets. As you can see these people were RICH.

The Higgins Armory Museum is a wonderful experience and is recommended for everyone. If one day you decide to go you will be more than pleased. The museum is loaded with all kind of Combat, Parade, and tournament armor. Those are some good reasons that you can visit the Higgins Armory Museum, thanks for reading.

Environmental Awareness Paragraphs

Article posted May 4, 2009 at 06:00 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1311

The past couple weeks we learned about where our trash goes. The first day we learned what we throw away that can be recycled and composted. We got down and dirty and separated it ourselves. It was really awesome except when I almost up chucked. Other than that it was very fun.

We also watched movies on advertizing and how its ruining our youth. The first movie we watched was “The Story of Stuff” and that was about where our trash goes.

Article posted April 2, 2010 at 03:28 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1270

In the stock market project i selected 4 stocks. Google, Sears Holding Company, Toyota Motors and Sirius Radio. Google used to be my best stock until they came out with the new google phone and that caused a huge downfall from $640to around $520. But now its back up to to what I bought it at Toyota has been hovering around 10 above what I bought it at. My highest winner is Sears, it has gone up about 40 dollars than what bought it at. Well thats what my stocks are doing.
