Stocks

Article posted May 13, 2010 at 02:48 PM GMT • comment • Reads 107

The companies that I choose was Dell,Target and American Eagle. I choose Dell because I used to have a Dell computer and wanted to see what their stocks were. Then I choose Target because I love to shop at Target I figured that the store must have good stocks because they seem to be nation wide. My last stock is American Eagle I choose American Eagle because I like their clothing and their clothing is very popular.

What changes I would make for Dell is maybe next time I would invest into Apple because their product is becoming more popular with all of the new products they are coming up with. With Target I would not change the company I would invest more into the stock. American Eagle I would do a little less of the stocks and a little more of other stocks.

When you are investing in stocks it could depend on how the year. Try to have and equal share

of your stocks but it also depends on when you buy your stocks. During Christmas your stocks could go really high up or it could only go up a little. It also could help if it is a popular place because if people like their things then people will come back for more.

Higgins Museum Essay

Article posted May 6, 2010 at 02:29 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1261

The Higgins Armory Museum is located in Worcester, Massachusetts. At the museum you can find all types of armor. It all started when a man name John Woodman Higgins started to collected armor from ancient time periods and from there formed the collection into a museum where the public could come and see all the armor. They don’t usually give tours, but you can mostly go through the whole museum and see all the armor. He has the one of the biggest collection in the world. It is quite a place to come and check out.

Here you can learn all about the different types of armor and the characteristics of all the armor. In the 300s(?) plate armor was used. You would have to make sure your armor fit nicely on you. The size of your armor helped you win in battle. Also there they had Composite armor which was when all the pieces of one armor suit was all together it was a good suit that would last a long time. Back then if you paraded in armor it would show that you were rich.  They went through many helmet styles and most of the helmet styles you could not see anything out of the helmet.

Looking through all of the exhibits you can see what knights do when they fight on horses even horses have armor. They have to make sure when they are fighting that they throw their spear correctly and that they do not get hit by the other spear.  Sometimes they will practice throwing spears, but it is with a wall so that they do not collided into each other.  Also there they have guns and, and during that time guns went through changes when they were expansive and did not work and then went through changes where they were cheap and worked well, during the time period of 1600.

At the exhibit mesh was visible and it was interesting to see the undergarments for the armor of the knights. The mesh was used a protective, shield beneath armor; to be worn by knights during battle. The thought was the mesh would protect them against wounds that could be caused during battle. However armor was always indestructible. If a person was to be hit with a club or war hammer the plate armor could be damaged by the force and it could result in the person having broken bones, head trauma or organ hemorrhages.

At Higgins you are able to experience firsthand what craftsmanship went into the creation of armor and swords. It is amazing to see that mere men would don such clothing and engage one another in fighting. The collection at Higgins is a textbook come alive.   Anyone who likes to look at armor and find at how knights use armor this is the place and come and see. Enjoy your time there and look at every little thing that man collected.

Higgins Museum Essay

Evaluation

3 --  Outstanding     2 -- Ok, but could use some improvement     1-- Needed improvement     0 --- Missing

Introduction

3           Gave the reader background and general information about the museum ---  set the scene.

2          Transitions to the body of the essay. (Three things that can be learned by a visit to the museum)

Body

1          Three topics were addressed, each with its own paragraph

2          Topics were clearly explained and used researched supporting details & vocabulary

Conclusion

2          Restated topic --- What can be learned at the museum?

2          Brought closure to essay (Summed up essay)

Structure

3            Essay format followed the directions for assignment

    3           Spelling

     3          Capitalization (Used correct capitalization)

Comments: You have good supporting details from the museum visit and good overall format to the essay. Organization of the information is a problem, you jump around in your paragraphs switching topics. Stick to one topic, tell what you know and then go on to the next one. More research vocabulary would have added depth to your explanations. Your conclusion brings closure, but doesn't really sum up the museum and what a person can learn from a visit.

Weather Story

Once it was a summer day outside and we were out and swimming in a pool at our friends house, and we were swimming when all of the sudden it got dark out. We all knew that a thunder storm was coming, so we got out of the pool and went into the house. We decided to leave her house and go to our house which was just up the street and it started raining and the wind was really fast so we got to our house and went inside our house and the look outside and saw the how nasty the wind was. Trees started to fall and it was mess and then our power went out and then all of the sudden the storm stopped and it got really hot because it was summer and our power was out so we could not get power for ac. So then we started having some of the food to get rid of it so that so of the food would not go to waste. Then that night we went out and hoped when we got home that the power would be back on but it was not. So we got home and went to bed and watch some movie on the computer until the computer needed to be charged and from there we went to bed very hot. The next morning we got up and the power was still not back on it was still out but at least it was light out so that we could see things everyone in my family took a cold shower. But then our power went back on around 10:00 a.m., so that was good and we had to get rid of all the food in our refidgerator and go rebuy everything, but we did it.

Pair Skating

Article posted March 9, 2010 at 05:41 PM GMT • comment • Reads 385

Figure skating is made up of different types of skating. Figure skating started back in the 1860s where everybody had their own style. I am writing about pair skating. In order to do pair skating you have to have jumps, lifts and spins; you also have to have a partner. Your performance has to be 4 minutes and 30 seconds long. Choosing a song of that length can be hard to do.  With every Olympic sport that they do, you have to be train yourself and you have to be working at it everyday and of course you have to be good at your sport.

During training season for pair skating you have to work on daily skills with your partner like going to the gym and working out so that they can be in shape. Once the Olympics are over you have to work on new skills. Always before that you have to work on selecting a choreographer to help with what steps you do and what song to choose from. Some tricks that they could add are Lifts which is when your partner lifts the women up over their head. When doing all of those tricks you have to get new skate but you have to break in the skates so that they don't hurt themselves when they go on the ice.

Every year they always have many people who are in Pair Skating. Here are some of the people who are doing pair skating: From Germany is Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy, then  from China are Shen and Zhao and from the United States is Amanda Evora and Mark Ladwig. Shen and Zhao did their event on February 14, 2010.

China had the highest score for pair skating and those winners are Shen and Zhao and their score was 76.66 which is very good but most of the scores were right around 76.66 which is very amazing. Shen and Zhao got the gold medal. I think everybody did a good during pair Skating . It is very beautiful and I can't wait to see the Olympics next time.

Roman's and Scotland

Article posted February 19, 2010 at 03:46 AM GMT • comment • Reads 87

My name is BSVI and I am a Roman invader. I am here in Caledonia to claim this land. Being a part of the Roman army I am well equipped and prepared to fight. The armor I am protected with will keep me safe during battle. My mission here is to claim Caledonia and as a Roman legionary I know I can do that.
A big part of any battle is the armor and protection you have against the other army. Luckily, being a part of the Roman army my armor is better and more developed than the Caledonians. We have our spears that we throw at our enemies and if we miss then our spear breaks down so that our enemies cannot use them. Then we have a helmet that protects our head when in battle. Also there is a shield that protects us from the opposing army directly firing at us. We also have other things like mesh and shoes to keep us warm and to protect our feet.
The great Roman army is a strong force in any battle. My army has all the proper armor needed in battle. The Caledonian army stands no chance against Roman army because we are not only ready with armor we are ready in our military skills and techniques. My army will fight to the end and will stop at nothing until our mission is complete; our mission this time being to takeover Caledonia.
Life in Caledonia is much different than life in Rome. Rome is more developed and established. Our cities have more to do and see. Overall Rome has a more scenic feel to it. My life in Rome was very nice. Being a legionary I am looked upon. In Caledonia life is not as established as Rome. Establishments and people seemed to be not as complex, but more of a simple way of life. Here in Caledonia my life seems more secretive and not acknowledged like it is in Rome.
The battle that is going to come between Rome and Caledonia is one that Rome is going to win. The Roman army is equipped in armor and the mind, which will lead us to victory over Caledonia. My life in Caledonia is secretive and I miss living in Rome. Rome is established and also gives us an advantage over the Caledonians. As a Roman Invader I am confident going into any battle with Caledonia.

Artist Statement

What I want my theme in my collage was to find a bunch of flowers. I want my audience to see the beauty of flowers and their different colors. To make this project come all together what materials I used was paint, magazines, clue, and mod-podge. What makes my artwork so success is having all the materials I need and enjoying making my artwork come all together. I love flowers and watching flowers bloom and they the flowers sway altogether. I enjoyed doing this project.
