My Columbus Day Opinion

Article posted June 16, 2010 at 02:20 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1825

My Columbus Opinion

For many years the topic of the celebration of Columbus day has been a controversy for some. It wasn't Christopher Columbus that changed to world it was his “discovery” that changed the world. Many people think that Columbus was the bad guy, but many people see him as a hero and not as the enemy. We should celebrate it, because we wouldn't be here if Columbus had decided not to explore the Americas. Many people say that we shouldn't have Columbus day, but we should continue to celebrate Columbus Day for many reasons.

The Europeans brought western European culture to the Americas, so if they hadn't, then we could be Chinese or some other culture and we wouldn't be who we are today. The effect of this is that we have our culture that we have now because of them. We also exploited the Americas natural resources, we may have stripped the Americas of them but we have used them to our benefit and that's what they're for. People say it's wrong to celebrate Columbus day since we destroyed the advanced cultures already there, but we won so we should have a right to celebrate. we wouldn't have been able to co-exist with them if we hadn't destroyed them just leading to even more deaths most likely.

So we should celebrate Columbus day, because we are who we are and what we are today because of the exploration of the Americas which is a thing to celebrate, not a thing to fight. People need to realize not everyone will agree, but it is how it is, we celebrate Columbus day because we are here today like we are how we are what we are today, no matter how many Natives we killed and civilizations we destroyed, it made us who we are today and that's reason enough to celebrate Columbus Day.

Bridge Poems

I can see it
in the distance
very very
far away
what is this bridge to
it is to the truth
but
for the truth
you need
to be able
to face what
is on the other side
it is a bridge
to all truth
and wonder
and freedom

My Higgins Essay

Article posted May 25, 2010 at 01:44 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1501

The Higgins is the biggest self collection armory museum in Worcester Massachusetts. The collection was founded by John Woodman Higgins. The collection has about 1600 pieces of armor and weapons. The museum was founded in 1929. The museum consists of sections of armor of weapons of Gothic, European, Western, African, Islamic, Indian, and Japanese. Mr. Higgins died in 1961, the collection and building was given to the public. The building was upgraded in 1984 they raised 2.1 Million dollars for the cause. The collection is very extensive and has a lot of history and interesting tales to tell.

There are three major types and uses of armor, Combat/warfare, lancing/tournament, and decoration. Combat/warfare was the first use and type of armor. The armor was designed for easy adjustment, so the wearer could mount his horse with ease, so he could fight with very little set back. The armor weighed about 45-80 pounds. The armor was made for protection, that’s all. After a while the design became more and more precise, they were designed to protect weak spots or gaps in the armor. They were made from about 200 pieces of armor. The helmet always had good visibility, unlike many other types of armor, they had to be like this so the wearer could see their opponent and surroundings well. For weapons to go with this type of armor are combat lances which are usually 10-14 feet with a head that was shaped a lot like a spear, they also had a small sword that they usually kept strapped to their hip. But this type of armor soon went out of style.

The second type and use of armor is lancing/tournament. This type of armor was designed for very little movement, and very little visibility. It is the heaviest and thickest type of armor ever, the armor weighed 80-100 pounds. The game of Joust involves two mounted knights on opposite ends of a playing field called a tiltyard, they charged at each other and tried to unseat to unseat the other. The target of the knights was strapped piece of armor much like a shield attached to the left shoulder. The game of Joust was not made for killing, it was for fun and betting and winnings, accidents rarely happened and many precautions were needed, since cuts with infection could kill since times were very different, but death rarely happened and injuries were usually small. The horses were usually charging at about 20 miles an hour, and the knights usually endured an impact of about 40 miles an hour on his chest. The armor was designed specifically for this type of impact, and incase the lance splintered, which it was in most cases made to. In most cases if the splinters got into crevices in the armor or helmet it usually led to infection and sometimes death. Each knight wielded a blunted lance about 10-14 feet. Many knights bet another knight their armor even if it didn’t fit him he could sell it, maybe even sell it back to the losing knight, but it was a great way to get money. But this type of armor was swapped by the decorative suits.

The last type of armor for the medieval times was decorative. Decorative was not meant for battling, it was meant to wear to special occasions like parades, court events, and ceremonies. The suits were actually very weak since all the tampering it took to make it look good. The suit was not designed for protection, it was made for show, it had very intricate designs on it. Having a suit of armor was basically saying that you had money and could blow 75,000 dollars on a suit of armor you will probably wear small amount of times. These suits were for showing off you were stylish and rich. The cost of one of these suits was usually about a fourth of a knights salary. Sometimes people didn’t even wear their suits they would hang them up on their walls, sometimes they didn’t have the whole suit made. There were many ways to decorate a suit of armor, etching, embossing, engraving, blueing and gilding. People loved to have decorative armor but it was soon exchanged for actual armor used for battle.

The types and uses of armor have changed drastically over the years and centuries, Higgins really helps to identify in detail these things. Their collection has so many great stories to tell. The history of armor will just keep on growing and so will the collection and intelligence of Higgins Armory will keep on growing. Higgins Armory collection is so extent we saw only a small fraction but it was so informative. Higgins Armory’s collection is great and shows so much history in a great way.

Severe Weather

Article posted May 12, 2010 at 03:13 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1046

Everyone has been through some type of severe or semi-severe situation with weather. I was in May 2006. That May it was raining a lot, things were looking like they would never dry. Now, most people think that rain is no danger whatsoever, but they are wrong, rain can cause a lot of flooding, just like it did in May. It was around Mothers day when it began and that's where it got it's name, the mothers day flood, so, it was raining and everyone thought ya whatever its just rain, no big deal.

But after a while people saw just how bad it could get. It rained for almost two weeks straight, there was a lot of flooding, roads were closed, some power was out, and schools were closed everywhere. A lot of people like me had their basements flooded, we had to get a new carpet for our whole basement, and all the drywall from about 4 feet to the ground was not good so we ripped it out, we had to get new furniture, and repaint everything. Getting rid of the water took a long time, we didn't have school for days but we didn't have to make it up sionce the state had established a state of emergencey. The mother's day flood is a flood that no one will forget.

Trash

Article posted May 12, 2010 at 03:10 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1167

Your Stuff and Its Journey
For three weeks we had people come in and tell us about what was really happening beyond the garbage trucks. Do you really know where your garbage goes after the garbage truck takes it away? Most people don't even know where it goes because they don't even care, they only care that it's not with them anymore. New Yorkers throw away 50,000 tons of waste a DAY and that's only New York think about the whole world, and then factor in that less than 4% of plastic in the U.S. is actually recycled. We picked through trash and skyped with people to see what they thought of what we were doing. I really liked learning about what people are doing with our trash. Learning about what people are doing with our trash really saddened me, because people don't care where their trash goes and they should, because no one wants to show their child a picture of a tree and say this is what trees looked liked when we had them.

I think that personally people should pay more attention, since people complain that it's the governments fault, but really it's their fault. People don't realize that since they don't care where their trash is going they'll just complain when our world is destroyed but it's their fault. People should care more about their trash.

The Squire's Tale Book Report - capital I

Article posted April 19, 2010 at 03:28 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1456

We all read books on medieval times and i chose The Squire's Tale. We all had to have 15 vocab words and sentences using them which wasn't easy since my book was extremely easy. After reading our book we had to choose 5-10 artifacts relating to the book, like one for the the characters and one for setting and one for plot, for artifacts, and we couldn't have computer images, we had to draw them or have real items. For my project i chose a shiny piece of cloth for swords and armor, a puffy crown for king arthur, a wand for Terence the main character since he's part faery, a feather since wearing feather was the fashion and for hunting, a stick since Terence meant Gawain in the woods and they spend a lot of time in the woods, a horse shoe since they ride horses a lot, and a green crayon since a lot of people wore green then. I loved the book!

Wordle - Favorite Sports

Article posted April 2, 2010 at 02:30 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1562

We did graphs and I did mine on favorite sports. Our science teacher brought them to Belize with her and they added to the graph. The best was soccer, the least was lacrosse and football but all the others were moderate and no one from our school picked cricket or volleyball. It was really fun learning about what kinds of sports they like in Belize!

Olympic half-pipe

Article posted March 9, 2010 at 06:49 PM GMT • comment • Reads 485

The snowboard half-pipe is a very challenging sport. Riders have to make quick decisions in case they don't stick or make a trick and hesitation has a better chance of injury. The riders travel about 30 feet in the half pipe vertically. The riders train year round, six days a week about 4 hours a day, with time off in may because to get tricks perfect for the Olympics you need to practice year-round. In the half pipe the riders perform a series of acrobatic tricks while going farther down the half pipe going side to side. There are many tricks possible in the half pipe like the 180 air which is a half turn or a 900 air which is two and a half turns, some riders ride with their left foot forward which is called regular footed opposed to goofy footed with the right foot forward. Snow boarding has developed very quickly, it has been an Olympic sport for almost 3 decades.

In the 2010 Olympics there are two American riders in the mens half-pipe to watch, Shaun White and Scotty Lago, Shaun won the gold and Scotty won the bronze, but we had 4 Americans in the mens half pipe but only Lago and White placed with a metal. For the womens half-pipe Gretchen Bleiler and Kelly Clark Gretchen didn't place with a medal but Kelly Clark didn't hold back and placed with a bronze medal. Out of all of the half-pipe we got 3 medals for the U.S.A. The U.S. Did very well in the half-pipe and next year in Russia we will hopefully do even better!

Roman Soldier Point Of View

Article posted February 19, 2010 at 02:02 AM GMT • comment • Reads 1182

Hello to you, my name is Noah Shrasuas, I am a Roman foot soldier, my legionary is heading to the Celtic area to contain the recent uprising of the Celtic people. I only hope that the blood shed will be little to nothing but what can you expect from the Romans obviously not a clean containment order. I do feel bad for these people though they have an underdeveloped civilization, their houses are mere huts mud clumps with straw no drain system either, compared to our highly developed houses with drain systems and running fresh water they are primitive. I felt bad that these people were most likely going to get killed or enslaved. I had great sympathy for these poor people, their clothing was undyed and most likely uncomfortable their shoes were warm but wasted away soon with this terrain. Our shoes and nails on the bottom of them. On our raid of a Celtic village i saw what their blacksmiths were working in and with and it made our workshops and blacksmiths look like they were gods in the art. They didn't even have a bath house, and no underground heating or drain systems to flush away the daily waste, i felt sorry for them because they were just getting by, but compare us to them and we are living in sweet luxury they didn't even have a set up and well rounded government that had laws, they had a lot to learn but unfortunately if they ever decided to mess with the Romans some would be killed and most others would be captured and sold as slaves or flee. Well i must be going now, i need a good sleep for tomorrow and only hope these poor people can cooperate well.

My Cheesy Science Valentines

Article posted February 5, 2010 at 02:24 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1228

In science class we had to make valentines. The valentines had to have sayings that had to do with things we have learned in science through the whole year. Here are my (very cheesy) science sayings: You're like high pressure air, only good weather can come with you! My love for you is like a star, it will only keep growing! Being with you is like being a cirrus cloud, weightless and so far up! You are like the moon with stratus clouds in the way, You're blocked but when you come out you're so beautiful. Yes these sayings are VERY cheesy.

my foggy poems

Article posted January 27, 2010 at 01:48 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1192

Surroundings
The fog encases me,
colors all dimmed,
shallow pools of color,
vanished,
behind the wave of gray,
it conjures eeriness within itself,
we become partially blind,
the essence of rain,
it becomes overly suffocating,
so much distortion,
where am I now,
in the worst,
it hisses and rears,
this cobalt gray,
will hang,
in the treetops,
seep deep into the ground,
this fog in a final attempt,
has lashed out,
so far at me,
it's deception is deep,
but I am willing,
willing to lose myself,
beyond belief.

The Darkness
The fog,
is so dense,
too dense,
I can't take it anymore,
the darkness,
has returned,
I know,
that this time,
I wont be able to withstand it,
but this,
is what I want,
I want to go,
where no one,
will know,
all,
the unknown,
secrets.

my M.L.K. essay

Article posted January 27, 2010 at 01:45 PM GMT • comment • Reads 414

In 1963 Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous speech, I have a dream. He gave this speech right before a big march, he wanted all people to be treated equally, black men, white men, Jews, gentiles, protestants, and Catholics no matter who you are, you will be treated equal. “I have a dream that one day my four little children will live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” that's a quote from the actual speech, part of the speech he said and didn't read. His speech is over 17 minutes long and in those 17 minutes hundreds of people were inspired. He said that after a hundred years since Abraham Lincoln we should be free by now, but they got their freedom slowly and it was still coming then, and they were getting impatient. We celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. and his brave speech that inspired hundreds and thousands to be free and set free, and today we are free, no one is scolded for the color of their skin, or their religion, they are judged by their character exactly as he had wished it was his dream and it has come true, today, and tomorrow.

my modern myth

Article posted January 27, 2010 at 01:43 PM GMT • comment • Reads 275

In the world long ago, when the gods were very known and worshiped, the tiny humans could walk and sleep on clouds. But they also lived on the ground too, they just slept in the sky. So everyone had their very own cloud bed, and it grew as you got older. But the gods had the biggest and comfiest clouds of all, no one complained though. Yet one small human man named Justin didn't like that. He thought that he should show the gods what it feels like to see someone with a cloud bigger and way better than yours just because they control the elements. What's so special about the elements anyway? So that next night, while everyone was asleep, even the gods snoring away, he went and took every ones cloud bed!

The next morning the sun was already quite high when the gods awoke. They all ached. And they were all very frantic, their cloud beds had been stolen!
“How did this happen!” exclaimed Hera.
“Where have our so comfy beds gone! Who DARE take them!” roared Zeus.
“Wait” said Poseidon, “Look there, in the distance!” then, all the gods looked, and what did they see? They saw all of their cloud beds, smushed and crushed together to make THE comfiest, and biggest cloud bed of all time, they were stacked on top of each other! So the the gods charged toward the giant cloud into the distance.

Just then, Justin was waking up, and he heard the gods. He looked up and there they were charging at him! He knew why of course. In the middle of the night when everyone was sound asleep he took all of the clouds for himself, because he wanted the gods to know what it was like to look upon something with envy and know you can't have it unless you fight for it which with the gods is almost impossible. And he liked being the only one with a cloud.

When the gods got to the colossal cloud and him,
“ We have chosen a punishment suitable enough so this won't happen again and you shall suffer forever! We the gods are taking away your human ability to walk and be upon clouds!” roared Zeus.
“ But, I only wanted you to know what it was like to look upon someone with envy of their cloud! You all have the biggest clouds and the comfiest!” pleaded Justin. “ Because without us, the elements would work themselves, and if that happened you would live in a place where tsunamis would be daily events and volcanoes erupting every hour, and earthquakes happening almost everyday, they would have no natural order.” said Athena.
“Just know that this is YOUR fault Justin.” said Artemis.

So Justin was then despised and detested forever because no one would forgive him for being so selfish. And he slept on wood while everyone else slept on comfy mattresses. But he was all alone forever and ever.

THE END

I did a project about Rye's transportation history. It was about all the transportation in Rye and how we have progressed so much in a small amount of time, from how we have gone from riding horses to have planes and cars and so far. I really liked doing this becuase it was interesting to learn about the transportation we have had in Rye.

My Artist Statement

Article posted January 15, 2010 at 02:24 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1323

My artist statement
The theme of my work was horses and things to do with horses. I chose this because horses are a very important part of my life and I love them so much. For materials, I used magazine pictures and paint. First, I cut pictures out, I layed them on my board where I wanted them, and mod-podged them. Lastly, I made my stencil and painted it with pearlescent to add shine to my collage. The thing that made my artwork unique was that I had a certain theme that has to do with me for my collage. I was influenced and inspired to use horses because I ride them. So I was inspired to do something I love to have in my life.

persuasive writing

Article posted January 8, 2010 at 05:54 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 154

I think that we need more field trips, and the field trips need to be better, better as in more interesting and more fun. If the field trips were more fun then we would learn more. Most people know that when you have a good time you remember those things really well right? Well if the field trips were more fun, the kids would have a good time, and they would remember what they learn, and there fore that would help them with their learning. Most kids when they learn in regular classes they just zone out and they don't even listen and they don't learn anything in return. But if they thought that things would be more interesting, as in more field trips and better ones at that, then they would look forward to class and they would listen and they would remember. And that would make them have better grades which is what teachers and schools are always aiming for.
Having more and better field trips is also a good idea because it is a good way to present knowledge and teachers are always looking for a different way to present knowledge that will help their students with their learning. Kids would also have good memories of field trips, and that's something that parents will agree to. Kids would also look forward to school, and who doesn't want a kid to look forward to school?

I do know that there are things that stand in the way of having more field trips and better field trips. First thing most people think of, especially these days, is the school budget. Also we would be missing regular classes. The teachers might not like that because what if it's a science field trip? And say the other teachers just don't know how to connect with that subject and that can get them frustrated and therefore they will have to give more homework to the kids and that is NOT something that we want at all. Then there is also the thing that some kids might not like the field trip or the field trip subject or something, they just don't agree. Then they might tell their parents, which brings us to the subject of parent disagreement. Some parents might disagree with the field trip, they think it's stupid, maybe a waste of their hard earned money, and a waste of our time and that we should rather be in class. Then there is also the thought of sometimes we stop for fast food. And that's not good. Long bus rides is another thing, a lot of kids hate the long bus rides. And the very bad school policy doesn't let us bring ANY electronics unless the bus ride is TWO HOURS or MORE=http://! How ridiculous is this? Now ask yourselves, if you had to sit in a car, for an hour or even more, with nothing to listen to or anything, not even the radio, you can't even talk on a cell phone! See? Would you want that? No, exactly no one wants that, so if you don't want it then why would you make us suffer like that? That's just wrong.

Now, I have found that I can turn some of the bad things into better things. The first one is that for the budget issue we can just have more fundraisers and that can help a lot. And for missing regular classes, there is actually a simple thing to think about. A lot of kids learn by having fun, and by promoting more and better field trips this would help kids work. Thirdly some kids who might not like the field trip we can have a vote so when there is say 90% or something or less for something we should rethink some things, and this would be good, because teachers always go on an on about how they love to make kids happy and happier, so why not actually do it? Now lastly is for the long bus rides. For the long bus rides or any bus rides that are 30 MINUTES or MORE long, we should be aloud to bring electronics, because the teachers bring them so we should be aloud to bring them too. And also, it's a time to unwind, but don't think that singing and going a little crazy is bad, because that's how we get rid of our energy.

Why would this not be a good idea? Are the teachers too reluctant to come out of their well known comfort zone? And I do believe that these ideas to form a bigger and better idea are going to work, that is if you let them happen. But why wouldn't you want these things? Why wouldn't you want us kids to be happy? Do teachers really have a thing for wanting kids to SUFFER all day and all the time? But why would you listen to me? Because I am JUST a KID according to adults, but think about this, adults are just kids, but taller, it DOES NOT make them smarter and better, that is not what happens. Actually if adults listened to kids more I think our world would probably be a better world, because just being under eighteen apparently makes us less important, yet people keep saying that kids are the future. But, hey, why listen to me, I'm JUST a kid, I mean I'm just the FUTURE I'm not that important, because why listen to a kid about what kids want? It's not like a kid knows what kids want or need, so if adults want to keep guessing what we want that's perfectly fine. Just know that we do really want that. So please listen to our pleas of help. Please.

Joe Flood/ Project Safegaurd

Article posted December 23, 2009 at 02:59 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 1155

In November we went to the church and did project safeguard. We took different classes, the first one that I took let's communicate, it was about parents and their children communicating. First we wrote down a question, like why do parents always want to know every little thing that we do and are doing? And then the parents would answer the questions and try to tell the kids why they do these things. The parents would do the same ask a question and we would answer. We did other activities like we got a card, and held it up on our head and we couldn't know what it was unless someone told us, but we couldn't talk. It was fun and I had a good time at let's communicate. For the next class I went to get an attitude. There was a motivational speaker there and he talked to us about being positive and that kind of thing. I really liked it because he was funny and very energetic. I had fun at project safeguard.

For two weeks Joe Flood came to talk to us about drugs and alcohol and what they do to your body and how they're bad for you. But the interesting thing about him was that he used to be an alcoholic and a drug addict, so he was really experienced in why not to do it. He taught us about our brain he used a medafore, it was that we had six lights on in our brain and when we start drinking or doing drugs a lot if we do a lot at one time the first light turns off and that's thinking, and then the second light turns off, and then the third, and so on. He said it was dangerous for the lights to go off. He asked me what I thought was the light that turned off and that's when it started getting dangerous, I said the second or third, but I was wrong, I should have said the first. He told us a story about how a girl was drunk, she was about 16-17, and she was drunk and she woke up in her bed with no clothes on, and she couldn't remember much, her friends told her she went to her house with a guy. So it can get really bad, because she was drunk her first light turned off, her thinking light, and normally she wouldn't do that kind of thing, but her thinking light was off and she thought it was a good idea, but it was more like the alcohol thought it was a good idea. He told us many more stories, we saw him for 4 classes and I learned a lot of stuff.

Moon Rock Write Up

Article posted December 3, 2009 at 07:28 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1066

For a couple days we had real Moon rocks at our school. When I think of Moon rocks, and I think I speak for most people too, we imagine big rocks like ones you can hold, right? But, we are wrong. Moon rocks are actually about the size of a pebble, and they are in a glass container with plastic surrounding the glass. The Moon rocks came in a case with really squishy foam in it and it had locks. Also my science teacher had to take special classes to get it. She also had to take it to the bathroom with her and when she went to bed she had to put it in a safe, and hide it, so they went to extremes to keep them safe. But they looked really cool and we got to look through a telescope for our harvest festival. It was really fun!

my math letter to my brother

Dear, Brother

I am writing this to you because my math teacher thinks we should write a letter about what we have been learning in module one of our math book. So we have been learning about, bar graphs, line graphs, analyzing a graph, frequency tables, number tricks, variables, algebra, patterns and sequences, tables and graphs, equations, terms and term numbers in frequency tables, exponents, exponential form, standard form, area, perimeter, volume, probability (theoretical and experimental),- we put names in a bag, cubes in a bag, a computer simulation, our own experiment that we got to make up, and we learned more about the order of operations, and we listened to a song about it.

My favorite part about the module was number tricks, probability, and order of operations. I liked number tricks because they are fun to do and I liked how the number tricks always work and that you could start with a number and then it would end up being your age in the end. Try doing this, start with your age, multiply by 4,divide by 2, subtract your age and what is your answer? I liked probability because it was really easy for me, and it was fun to do. The order of operations has always been something that I liked to do, I like it when I am challenged because I like to see how good i am at it and to see how fast I can go. But the order of operations is just fun for me, and a lot of the problems are really easy for me.

I didn't like the graphs that we had to do. The first thing we did with graphs was we had a take home quiz and we had to find a graph so that we could fill out the sheet that my teacher gave me. I didn't like it because it was a little bit boring and I already knew just about everything. I also didn't like exponents. I didn't like exponents because I don't like doing the big numbers like that, and I don't like how you have to have it in exponential or standard form. But other than that math and school are going well, and I have an A in math right now. Love, dsno

Our Field Trip to Strawbery Banke

Today we went to Strawbery Banke. Another example of my L.A. Project. But, it was really fun because the people pretended to be people from the 1900's. The people were really good at acting. I learned that you can use one bag to put more than one grain in it without having them mix, almost at all. I also learned that you couldn't buy spices in a store or anything, you had to make them, as in grind your own cinnamon. I got to grind cinnamon and it takes a really long time. They had many long tedious jobs that are very annoying, like for Thanksgiving they had to have a person turn the Thanksgiving turkey until it was done. I do now realize that if I had lived in this time then I would hate it, so now I am very grateful for the things that I have that help me everyday. It was really fun!!

my poems

In this life,
that she has chosen,
there are good ones,
and there are bad ones,
some people might try to make them better,
but at the end,
we all realize,
we are who we needed to be,
and they were too.

Nature is always against us,
the winters brutally cold,
the summers so intensely hot,
the fall so windy and crisp,
but spring,
spring is the best,
know why?,
because it is not too cold,
and not too hot,
but ohh so,
beautiful,
but sadly,
ohh so sadly,
we start the cycle all over again,
but we can always look forward,
to the best season,
spring,
spring,
spring.

Planets and Stars! What you don't know!

Article posted September 24, 2009 at 04:32 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1300

Stars don't twinkle which means our parents have lied to us our whole lives. Light can travel at 186,000 miler per second. Light speed is used to measure large distances between stars. What is our closest star? THE SUN! The next closest sun you ask? Proxima Centauri. It is 4 light years away. Light can travel through a vacuum! Not a cleaning vacum silly! A vacuum is nothing. AU means astronomical units is used to measure the planets.
Space between planets and equations.
0+4/10=0.4 mercury -.4AU
3+4/10=0.1 Venus 0.7 AU
6+4/10=1 Earth 1 AU
12+4/10=1.6 Mars 1.5 AU
24+4/10=2.8 Asteroids
48+4/10=5.2 Jupiter
96+4/10=10 Saturn 9.5
192+4/10=19.6 Uranus 19.2
384+4/10=38.8 Neptune 30.1
768+4/10=77.2 ? Pluto ( dwarf planet) 39.5

so I bet you all are wondering who first discovered that the Earth was round? Well I will tell you in the honest truth Erastothenes a librarian in Egypt found out! Oh how you ask?
Well, he found out that on two days of the year you could see all the way down to the bottom of the well because of the sun. so when he was in a different town on one of the days he went to the well and saw that you couldn't see to the bottom of the well this is because the Earth is round.
