Battle of the muscles.
In 1980 zebra muscles invaded the great lakes and effected the lakes ecosystem. They came from ocean going ships that had had attached to during the ships trips. Zebra muscles clogged in-take pipes of ships and power stations and billions of dollars went into the damage. The Zebra muscle can only live on hard submerged surfaces such as rocks.
Not long after the zebra muscles took over the great lakes, the Quagga muscle got into lake Michigan, and now they are effecting the balance of energy in the lakes ecosystem. Quagga muscles can live on most submerged substrates such as docks and boats and other things like that.
Over time, there has been a big decrease in the zebra muscles and the Quagga muscles have grown dominant.
What is Ecology?
Ecology- from the Greek words Oikos, meaning ‘house’ and Logos, meaning ‘study of’.
12.4 miles of soil from the surface down is were life can live. Ecosystems have 2 parts. Aboitic factors and Biotic factors. Organisms depend on these factors for energy. When a new species comes to a Ecosystem it can disrupt or change the stability dramatically.
The Artic
Animals in the arctic are in grave danger because the ice is melting. Animals such as Polar Bears. The largest land prediters and the largest of 8 bear types. A male Polar Bear can grow up to 10 Ft tall and can way up to 1,700 pounds. A Female Polar Bear can weigh half of that. Polar Bears have special adaptations so they can survive the cold, such as the dark skin they have under their white fur, which takes in the suns energy. The paw-pads are made ruff so they don’t slip on the ice. they also use their paws when swimming since they're very usefull. the front paws of a polar bear 'propels' the bear forward while the back paws-or legs- are used to stear. wouldnt it be easier if we had that when we swimmed? They can even swim 100 miles from shore. The polor bears fat even helps him swim because it gives them buoyancy!
In 1973 and international treaty was sighned by countries inhabited by the polor bears. The goal was to protect, and manage the population of them (the polor bears).

My opinion on Global Warming.

My opinion on global warming is that we can't fix it, and we can't stop it, but we can help it. We can't fix it because it's already happened, and we can't stop it because of all the pollution we have already. We can help it by making cleaner and more efficient things like cars and factories. What I have thought of was why don't scientists experiment with the solution from 'Back to The Future 2' where they make garbage into usable energy. If we did have this solution, we would have cleaner air to breath, healthier plants, and cities would be much fresher. Our garbage wouldn't be put in big cubes and we wouldn't have to pay to go to the garbage dump, we wouldn't have to complain to our fell adult friends about the cost of gas and we definitely wouldn't have a hole in our pocket when we go out to buy a compost box. Imagine how much money we would save if we had this function? How much cleaner the air would be? No more exhaust! No more gross smelling gas that seeps into your new born crying baby's lungs as you fill up the tank! No more garbage dump trips!

Environments for our experiment

Last week in our science class we did a lab on environments. We got 5 viles and an assignment to 1liquid (out of 3)-which was salt water- and we put a substance in each one. Vile A, was red sand. Vile B, Yeast, vile C, Orbies, vile D radish pods and vile E had brine shrimp. Over the week we examined the viles, trying to see if anything was living, and at the time, we didn't know what was each substance.
In my group, each substance we thought was non-living. But vile E,-the Brine shrimp eggs- was living, but something happen and they didn't hatch.
If we used a different liquid on each substance, things might have been different, such as the yeast in vile B.
Yeast is a living thing. I learned this last year in home ec. It feeds on surgar and other things, so if we got sugar water, it would most likely have produced bubbles that rose to the surface. But because we had salt water it died.
If we had water, (liquid 3) our orbits would have grown bigger, and our radish seeds might have sprouted.

Things that LiVE!!!

For me, defining things that live could be movement, pulse, breathing, multiplying.
Movement, such as the rise and fall of the chest of a dog, or-possibly- the splashing of a mermaids tail.:)
Pulse, the heart beat of a person you might hug, or even checking to see if a persons alive, the steady beat like a drum thriving in the veins of a panicking dove, held in your hands as you pet it's delicate soft chest with the back of your pointer finger.
Breathing, maybe the ragged breath of a bear when it's devouring the pray it took so long to catch, or the sneeze of you new kittin you got for your birthday, and the opening and closing of the gills of a fish, begging to be in the water again after a struggling catch.
Multiplying, such as rabbits that are in a cage together of the opposite sex. Rats that constantly kreep in the walls of your house, leaving waist everywhere and when they die, leaving the retchid gag-worthy smell. Flowers, even. Multiplying with the seed capsules that they release in the wind.
All of these sighns let me know that these things are living.

How things can live

The environment effects organisms in multiple ways. For instance, weather or even the land or water. In mr.G's class, we did an experiment with 5 viles. Each group got either liquid 1,2 or 3. In 2 viles, there were 1cotton ball damp with the liquid we were assigned to, which was liquid 1-salt water. In each vile, we put different substances in them. 1, was brine shrimp, but of course, something happened and the eggs didn't hatch. Brine shrimp should hatch in salt water. Everything else, such as the red sand, radish seeds, orbes, and yeast didn't show any sighns of living. Of course, only because they cant do anything in salt water.
Our living organisms (the brine shrimp) didn't appear living because 1, our brine shrimp didnt work, and the others-if they were living(which they wern't), couldn't grow or live in the salt water. one of the sighns that we took that they wern't living was that nothing moved, no air bubbles or hatching. Only the yeast and orbes expanded, and we figured that it was just from being in the substance (liquid 1- salt water)

Elastic Force

Elastic force is when gravity pulls a object ( like a rubber-band) making it have a resist. What i learned about elastic force was from a rubber band. When we pulled it a certin distance it would pull on the spring in the spring scale it would give us a higher Newton number. Each time we pulled it a bigger distance then the last, it would resist more. Wanting to shoot back to the other side. Each time you streach a rubber-band it gets weaker. Wich would give a weaker score each time if continued to be used. wich could give bad data.

Batteries change!!!!

When you have a battery it is holding stored chemical energy. Wich we also call potential energy ( not moving energy). When you use the battery, the potantial energy turns into electrical energy. Which is konetic energy ( moving energy ). The konetic energy goes through the wires to what ever your using, like for us we yoused a light bulb . When we connected it to the lightbulb the electrical energy turns into light and heat. when you charge a battery ( if it's chargable ), konetic energy goes through the wires that are in the wall and goes in the battery. Then the cycle starts all over again.
