Our class did a poetry unit this winter. Then each student chose one poem to include in our class Student Treasure book. The poems they chose are featured on their blog pages. Enjoy!

Our students worked on coming up with New Year Resolutions. We had fun using the program "Comic Life" to show you what we're working on this year! Check them out!

Our class created the coolest robots with our Art teacher, Miss Dalgleish. They worked on the art elements of shape, value (light and dark of a color), and line. Students then wrote about their cool robots and took a picture of them. Each student has created a video using www.littlebirdtales.com to tell about their robot. Hope you enjoy watching them!

Our class has just finished working on the writing process with these persuasive letters. Students did prewriting, a rough draft, revising, editing, and publishing all on their own.
As you read our letters, please notice the correct letter format, good reasons to persuade the reader, and the use of persuasive words. Students worked very hard to include all of these things in their letter. Enjoy!

Each year, our second graders do a unit of writing poetry. Then each student chooses their favorite poem to publish into our class book of poetry. The books are sent off to an actual publishing company, called Student Treasures, and sent back to us as a hard cover book. It is such a fun keepsake for our students to have and a great tradition here at our school. Each student is publishing the poem he or she chose for the Student Treasure on their individual blog pages. Enjoy!

Students created a question and series of answers for their own polls. Please note that their was not any teacher assistance for spelling, capitalization, punctuation, or grammar. It's fun to see their "raw" writing!
Please vote on our polls and then leave a comment about why you picked what you did. Thank you!

We had a great time on our field trip to Santa's Village! We read a story, did some crafts, and had treats. Thank you to our parent volunteers who came along! Thank you to the ladies of Santa's Village!

Our class enjoyed listening to the turkey voki Mrs. Starcevic posted to tell about the Thanksgiving blog assignment. I am excited to announce that the students in our class will be writing and creating a voki of their own!
Here's the assignment:
1. Choose one of your favorite things about December or the holidays.
2. Come up with five sentences to describe your mystery item. Use your five senses to help you make your clues. (We have worked a lot on using our five senses to make observations in science, so this is a lot the same.)
3. We will create a voki and then try to guess each other's mystery items in the comments sections of each blog!
Listen to my voki to hear an example of what you should do:

Our second graders have learned how to leave a comment on each other's blogs. Thanks to Mrs. Theiry for helping us to know what a good comment should look like. As you read through our blogs and comments, please notice that our comments are one (or more) of three things:
1. a personal connection to what was written
2. an add-on (something you'd like to add to what the author already said)
3. a question about the blog article
Parents and other blog visitors are encouraged to also join our commenting conversations!
Keep up the great blogging and commenting, Second Graders!

Our class worked on the writing process and writing persuasive letters this month. Be sure to look for persuasive words, descriptive words, and correct letter format. We learned that we should save the best reason for the end of our letter to convince the reader to do what we want! Enjoy our persuasive letters!

This week is the first week without Ms. Cicha. She was our class's long term substitute teacher while Mrs. Starcevic was gone on maternity leave. Our class really enjoyed having her, so let's write about what we remember from her time with us. Thank you Ms. Cicha! We hope you can visit us again sometime!

Happy New Year 2nd Graders! It's now 2011 and time to think about what you want to do this year. What are your goals for the rest of 2nd grade? Do you have any bad habits you'd like to quit? Is there something you'd like to do better? Two of Mrs. Starcevic's goals are to watch less TV and get more exercise. Tell us about the things you have planned for 2010 by writing your New Year's Resolutions!

We know we have many things to be thankful for at Thanksgiving! Write about at least five things you are thankful for this year. Remember to tell why you are thankful for those things. Have a nice Thanksgiving break!

About the Blogger
I'm Mrs. Starcevic. I have been teaching for eleven years; the most recent six years in 2nd grade. I love their energy for life and learning. I'm so excited to get blogging with my 2nd grade students again this year!
