We have three 6th grade Science classes and two 8th grade Science classes blogging here from the Pacific Northwest in Chimacum, WA! Sixth graders are learning a bit about Mt Saint Helens, environmental science through fresh water ecology, and physical science this year. Eighth graders are learning about life science this year. Please join us as we learn Science by exploring our world.

I legitimately know nothing about them.

I cant really think anything I really want to know.

But I guess knowing what types of food they like would be useful for this unit of study.

What I know about snails:

They leave a trail of slime behind them.

They have shells.

They die when you put salt on them.

What I want to learn:

How does a snail move?

Can snails see color? If so, what color?

My team and I did an experiment with testing bacteria around our school. We were curious about which part of the school had the most bacteria. After testing a computer keyboard in the middle school computer lab, door handle into our school, lunchroom tables and toilet seats, the most bacteria grew from the door handle. I predicted that the toilet seat would grow the most it was a surprise to learn door handles grew the most. Our evidence was the bacteria we grew in petri dishes! We had a few inaccuracies with our experiment. We actually had to try out experiment two times. the first time we attempted to grow bacteria, we grew absolutely no bacteria. I'm not sure why the first time we tried to grow the bacteria it didn't grow but the second time it did. I understand even though we had inaccuracies we learned how bacteria grows.

In the future I'd like to learn why the first time tried to grow the bacteria it wasn't successful.

My team and I did an experiment with different liquids and yeast.

Our question to our lab was How does different liquids affect the gasses yeast makes. I thought carbonated liquids would make more gasses but I learned just plain water and yeast made the most gas.

For our evidence we used balloons to catch the gas.

Our inaccuracies were not having enough balloons for each of our test tubes. We had three balloons and 6 test tubes. And on top of that one balloon got a hole. I observed the water and the yeast made the biggest balloon. I understand that my prediction was incorrect. I thought carbonated liquids mixed with yeast would blow up the biggest balloon but it was just water and yeast.

Yes. I do think global warming can be stopped. Reasons being WE cause it. So WE can prevent it. Harmful gases made by big industrial factories play a big part in the harmful events that come along with global warming. A good example of harmful gas is Chloroflourocarbon. It was used in aerosol cans like hairspray and spray paint. The Chloroflourocarbon gets released and floats up into the atmosphere and eats away from the O Zone that protects us from the suns harmful

UV rays and solar wind.

Yes we should do something about global warming. Because we all have to live on this earth. So do the later generations of the human race.
