snails

Article posted May 2, 2012 at 06:54 PM GMT • comment • Reads 656

Things that I know about snails is that when they move they leave slime and they also move slowly.

Things I don't know where the slime comes from how smart they are and how much slime it makes before it dies! And also how long can one get.

Are lab for this was to see if the snails can sence danger and so what we did was put salt on one side of a tub and food (radish) leaves and one snail was dumb and went to the salt side and the other one, smart one eat the food. Snails arnt very smart in the way of finding food.

The Radish Experiment.

Article posted April 18, 2012 at 07:09 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 779

My team came up with an experiment to test the space of the growth of a plant to see if it would make a difference and well it did. A lot. The spaces the we picked was a tub full with seeds (radishes), the next was a small tube with 15 seeds mix in both compost. the seeds took about 2-3 weeks to grow. We finally came to a conciliation the space dose matter the tube had a much slower growth rate because of the more compacted carbon-dioxide so the process was much slower.

Was a total of over 42 THOUSEND air and road miles!! That's a ton of miles and money for a simple bottle of water and bread, apple, chicken, and lettuce.

Sexual and asexual

Article posted March 1, 2012 at 08:06 PM GMT • comment • Reads 741

People who have a sexual reproduction have the greater chance of people being different in almost every way. Unlike asexual which they would be excactly the same in every way. Because of meiosis copy's the DNA and meitosis splits in two then doing the same thing over and over and over again.

-outside-soil
-keyboard
the bathroom
the bath room parts are looking like big green spots. The next day the bathroom looks like the bacteria from yesterday but just a lot bigger and more has grown not much difference.
the lunchroom
the lunch room parts and looks like little brown spots. the next day the lunch room has showen that it has grown a bunch more then yesterday it has grown/spread out alot more.
the outside-(soil)
out side looks a place with dirt with the egg on it.the next day out side had the most persforments in the whole proscesses it is spreading faster then anything else.
the key board
the key board is clear it looks like nothing is in there.the next day the key board- still nothing...

Meiosis and mitosis!!!

Article posted January 31, 2012 at 08:15 PM GMT • comment • Reads 784

Meiosis and mitosis are kind of alike ways they are alike is both of them create cells, but the difference is that mitosis makes two cells and meiosis only make four cells. Both of them pass on DNA to the cells they have made. The meiosis cells have different DNA but the mitosis made cells have the same DNA. That is differences of the two.

The steps of dividing/multipling are:

Interphase: They DNA copies each other then the cell splits

Prophase:The nucleolus starts to fades. The nucleolus then starts to meet into chromosomes.

Prometaphase: This stage is where the nucleolus envelopes break down. This stage is when the proteins are being put together and where the two daughter cells are located.

Metaphase: Tension to the spindle fibers aligns all the chromosomes in one place at the middle of the cell.

Anaphase: The spindles fibers have been shorten and the two daughter cells are being ripped apart. They later travel to the cell pole.

Telophase: The daughter get to the cell pole and the spindle fibers that ripped the daughter cells apart are gone.

Cytokinesis: The spindle fibers start to break down. Contactile ring sticks the cell in two daughter cells. Next the newly made cytoskeleton is being recognized while the microtubules will return to the interphase stage later in the cell cycle.

the differece with plant cells and animal cells

Article posted December 14, 2011 at 08:16 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1084

1. they both have a nucleus.

2. they both have mitochindria which crates energy for the cell for various functions.

The things that they have different is thatthe plant cell has a vacuoles, chloroplasts and a cell wall the animale cell dose not have a vacuoles, chloroplasts and a cell wall.three things are different except that the animale cell is way different to a plante cell because a plante cell of corse comes from a plane and an animale comes from an animale.

our brine-shrimp project

Article posted November 4, 2011 at 08:25 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1449

On November first we made an experiment to see what environment the brine-shrimp could live in. the way we did are experiment we filled the viles with things the we would think that the brine-shrimp would hatch in. Are first vill was filled with pop/smarties and water, next one egg/salt and water, third just salt water, forth pepper/smarties and water, fifth chocolate and water, last of all smashed smarties and water (the water was just tap) after 24 hours the brine-shrimp turned different colors they started at brown to really bright, also the brine-shrimp in vile (1) they sunk to the bottom and just floated. vile (2) the egg had trapped the brine-shrimp in the egg so we said that it was a dead vile. vile (3) the salt water had a lot of bubble!! we put them in a micro scope to see what was happening the eggs where hatching. vile (4) the pepper was sitting at bottom with the brine-shrimp we put that in the micro scope too and they where all dead. vile (5) the water was Smokey because of the chocolate we also put that in the micro scope too also dead. vile (6) the brine-shrimp sat at the bottom finally we had another vile that was alive! hatching ever second one after another! so we found that the brine-shrimp can hatch salt water and smashed up smarties. thank you.

Are Environment Lab

Article posted October 21, 2011 at 08:13 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1325

The environment does affect organisms because the different environment changes the organisms to adapt and adjust to the environment like snow, heat, rain wind or just plant life. the lab that we did had five different substances the red sand, yeast, polyacylate crystals, seeds, and brine-shrimp, the polyacyate crystals, red sand, yeast appeared to be not living at first or even at all the organisms did not have the living side affects i was looking for in a living thing. Also the seeds, and brine shrimp appeared living because of the thing I have see what they turn into.the way they grow or changed was by the liquid we put into each substance we had we let the substances it in the liquid for more than 24 hour. the liquid was a mystery because mr.G didnt tell us what it was but after we where done with the substances we drained and disposed the the substances. The polyacylate crystals had/has grown but! it seemed that the polyacyate crystals just absorb the liquid. also the liquid was salt water. the thing i didnt get was the the brine-shrimp didnt go crazy as i thought it would of but they all died :( i just dont know why?

Global warming!!!!

Article posted October 3, 2011 at 08:19 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1444

1. Can people do something now to fix the global warming part of climate change?

A1: ways we can fix global warming and climate change:
- join local communities to shut down dangerous, dirty coal plants all across the state.
- to create cleaner ways to gain energy.

2. Should we do something now to fix global warming? Why or why not?

A2: should we fix it or do something to fix it:
- why global warming is important is because it can cause the ice at the north and south poles to melt which can cause a lot of flooding in many different places.

Water pollution brochure

Article posted November 2, 2009 at 09:45 PM GMT • comment • Reads 1954

As you may have known other boring brochures provide the information and no opinions or interesting facts, and im not just talking in bold because I like to, this is a very good and expressed pamphlet. One small fact before we start, some obvious sources of pollution can be from pipes from factories or from a nearby trash collector. Now some non-obvious sources can be from evaporation causing acid rain or water pollution going down a small stream.

What Is Water Pollution?

Water pollution can be a nuisance to nature and humans, our water can be contaminated just by a little fertilizer or cleaning fluids, it can get in fish, and when the poisoned fish dies the poison passes on to the predator and it moves up the food chain until it hits us, if we don’t stop this our world will run out of inhabitants. Water pollution can be the contamination of water bodies such as lakes, rivers, oceans and groundwater caused by human activities or caused also by nature, such as volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunami’s that can be harmful to most or certain organisms.

What are some sources of water pollution?

Well first there are human influenced pollution, fertilizers get squirted out and they form a tiny stream to the nearest river, lake or stream. There are also natural pollutants, animal waste from cows can some times end up in streams thus killing fish also there is a major pollutant, like I mentioned before this is the volcano, it can mix acids and materials and get in organisms life cycle.

What are some of the effects of pollution?

Pollution effects can span far but here are some MAIN effects, animal life can be severely harmed and the pollutions effect on them can ruin their habitat, prey/food, water and itself, animals aren’t the only people on this planet, WE can be effected, we EAT animals so if they are poisoned we get the same poison, also our water (of course) can be effected even though WE did it. Every one has a chain or life support system if it is harmed, it could die.

This bird is covered in what looks like snow but is accualy oil sadly =[

What can WE do to our water after it has been polluted?

There are many methods of cleaning the water, the biggest example is The Exxon Valdez Oil Spill, they cleaned it up with LOTS of firemen and LOTS of high pressure water hoses, they made a machine and tried to use the hoses to scoop the oil in it. If you figure out a better way or like this idea PLEASE talk with the owners of that river/ocean shore/lake and ask them if you can take action.

These firemen are doing the right thing, the exxon oil spill was dissasterous! =]

What can be done to stop this horrid pollution?

A lot of you must be asking this question all the time, well one way of doing this is purifying the water and draining it into the wetlands, other methods of doing this is rerouting ditches and closing nearby garbage dumps close to contaminated water. Also you can talk to the government and ask them to make laws. MY idea (personally) is to make your own filter and send the blueprints to somebody you trust and build it together.

What ARE Nitrates And How Do They End Up In Our Waters?

A nitrate is a natural substance and is in all ecosystems, plants need it but too much of it can be a serious problem to them, nitrates are also in fertilizers. But how does this strange substance end up in our local waters? You know those farmers who use too much fertilizer and all their plants die? Well that is how they enter and then they can be evaporated and spread far and wide causing not only a problem for the farmer but for others.

What Effect Do High Nitrate Levels Have On Humans?

Were you wondering what would happen if you drank nitrates? It wont do much but if you put too much in then the results will be fatal on infants under 4 months old, THEY TURN BLUE=http://=http://!! It’s called baby blue syndrome, yes, it’s a syndrome.

What is the considered safe level for nitrates in drinking water?

Were you thinking, “Well what IS the safe level for drinking water?” apparently it is ten milligrams per liter. Amazing isn’t it? I thought so, lets move on…

What should YOU do if there are high nitrate levels in your water supply?

Well it might be dangerous so call your water agency and DO NOT DRINK IT   if you have any bad suspicions about the pesky nitrates in your water systems.

What can be done to stop nitrates from entering our water supply?

Some ways of doing this are to reduce the amount of fertilizers use in that area, also make your tile drainage systems deeper and build fences to fence off livestock from rivers/lakes/oceans.
