We have three 6th grade Science classes and two 8th grade Science classes blogging here from the Pacific Northwest in Chimacum, WA! Sixth graders are learning a bit about Mt Saint Helens, environmental science through fresh water ecology, and physical science this year. Eighth graders are learning about life science this year. Please join us as we learn Science by exploring our world.

My group is using 2 containers with dirt in them with 3 dixie cups in each all colored a different color. Then we will put a snail in each container and see what color each snail goes to see what colors snails are attracted to. Or if snails can even see in color. I think the snails will go to the brighter colors because i think they will stand out to the snails more. I will make another blog with the results! Check it out:)

What I know about the snail?
~They are all the same sex.
~They leave a slimy trail.
~They have a shell.
~They all vary in sizes and color.
What I want to know about the snail?
Why are snails so slimy?
Why do snails only eat plants?
Can snails live without their shell?
Do snails have feet?
Why do people eat those nasty things!?!?

So for the past couple weeks,my group and i have been trying to grow Lima beans but also get a lot of interesting facts about them. Our Lima beans did not grow they ended up splitting in half and molding because we did not control how much water was entering our container of dirt so they pretty much flooded because we had them on top of the roof on the building out side. Plus we had very little sunlight for the Lima beans. But when we presented we had a Prezi for our experiment and what we did wrong. On our i-movie we had many interesting facts about Lima beans and the different types such as bush Lima beans and pole Lima beans. Lima beans are also known as chad and butter beans. This is what are experiment turned out to be.

So... me and my group decided to swab the door handle, lunchroom table, toilet seat, and the locker room locker for bacteria. We made a bad mistake when we put the bacteria in the container because we broke the agar that was at the bottom of the container. it broke in all the sections except for the toilet seat section. 24hrs later after we stuck the petrie dish in the incubator we found only one small speck in the toilet seat section. we believe that it didn't grow anywhere else because we broke the agar which was the food, which made it so the bacteria couldn't eat..we found out that bacteria cant feed of plastic...that is all for are observation:)

I believe that Paramecia are single celled organisms that can live on their own without having to be attached to something to survive or get life support off of another living organism. Paramecia are very cool! They are very interesting to look at under the microscope because you can see right through them, they look like very little stretched out ovals. The Paramecia move by using their hair like arms to move through their environment. When my group put red food dye in the tray that held them you could watch the Paramecia eat it so it turned the inside of the Paramecia red. The liquid was red to be able to tell if the Paramecia could eat on their own. This is what I've learned so far about Paramecia.

Me and my group were experimenting with the microscope...our science teacher mr. G gave us a feather to study as we looked at the feather under the 10x zoom each strand of the feather was like it had been curled into very small microscopic curls it is very interesting to see all the details and characteristics of a feather under a microscope. What things did u guys see when u looked at the feather?

First me and my partner Hanah brought in a bottle of apple juice, monster energy drink, sugar water, salt water, and cola we added the yeast and after a day mostly all the yeast settled to the bottom but we noticed that in the cola test tube the yeast had rose to the surface and created a brown circle around the top they alsmelt kind of like carbonated soda
