We have three 6th grade Science classes and two 8th grade Science classes blogging here from the Pacific Northwest in Chimacum, WA! Sixth graders are learning a bit about Mt Saint Helens, environmental science through fresh water ecology, and physical science this year. Eighth graders are learning about life science this year. Please join us as we learn Science by exploring our world.

1.what went well was that we learned in the research that flowers pedals will change coler depending on the waters coler.
2. i liked how we got too test if the pedals would change coler
3.what didnt go so well is that the flowers died
4. i didnt like how the flowers died mid way in the experement
5.i could have made this expiriment better by purchasing the flowers at a later date
6.well we had about 2 days before the flowers died and i used my time for the expirement and the expiriment only
7.i could have made the project better by purchasing the flowers at a later date

based on the video i saw about the elwha dam is that on the right side they will drain some water then remove the buillding and drain water on the lefft side and block off the water draining on the right and remove the whole dam and fill in where the water drained on the right and plant trees and bushes!

slime molds are cool and they have an awesome yellow coler but other things i learned where well the site i read said that slime molds are a single cell organism i dont know if thats 100% correct because i only looked at one site i need to reasearch a little more about slime molds too but another thing i learned while researching is that slime molds move and when they get old they turn into a ugly brown powder!

I learned that when snails mate they shoot each other with love darts and if they pierce an organ they can die.and when the weather gets cold there metabolism slows when the whether is hot they begin estivation and snails are called gastropods because there stomach is above there foot.

In the most recent lab we did the expirement was. that mr.g put ager in a petri dish and me and tyler got 4 q-tips and swabed the bottom of a back pack, a drinking fountain, a door handle, and table and the object of the expiriment was to grow bactira and see which spot had the most bactira and so far the most bactira is on the bottom of a back pack and i was surprised by this because I would think that a door handle would have the most bacteria. I can understand how the bottom of a back pack would have the most bacteria because back pack are set on the floor where there is dirt from shoes things are brushed off tables on to the floor plus back packs touch lots of floors. Where there can be animals and animals are dirty.

biotic is a term used for saying something is living and a biotic means nonliving. if a tree falls then it dies which means its a biotic but yet it can still help baby trees grow. which we saw at hj carroll park.

I think sequoia trees are made carbon. I think this because the trees takes in carbon threw there stomatas and breath out co2 for us to breath but carbon is not all it needs sunlight to plus soil for the roots to expand and then the roots take up water and thats aanother key factor

In our experiment we used polyacrlate balls and me and my partner tyler put 5 balls in Gatorade and 5 in plain water and my hypnosis was that the balls in plain water would grow much better then the ones in the gatorade and me an tylers results supported my hypothesis and we also did another experiment where we tested how big the polyacralate crystal ball would get and it turned out not to get that big and then we put it in with plain water balls then later on we tried to dry out a ball to see if it went back to the original size which has not done anything.

Our latest science lab evolved polyacralate balls and are experiment was to see how big they would get they could get in one bowl. And then we had 2 other vile's we put 5 polyacralate balls in the 2 separate vile's and then the liquid in the 2 vile's was with one of the vile's me and Tyler used Gatorade and the other vile had plain water and then me and Tyler tested to see how each of the polyacralate balls worked with the liquids and we have been cosistantly taken results of the growth.
