4th grade

4th grade was the best year ever so get ready for the best ride of your life, between reading a book and watching the movie and going to the Museum of Science and Industry.

One thing we did in 4th grade was read the book The Witches, actually Mr. Edwards read it. As he read we were allowed to draw the pictures we saw in our minds. Not only that but after we were done reading The Witches we got to watch the movie It was cool to see the differences between the book and the movie. Another very fun thing we did was go to the Museum of Science and Industry. First we went to make Simple Machines which was what we were talking about. Next we went to the Idea Factory where there was this one thing that you put a plastic ball up a tube and the air would move the ball to this cool little pirate ship. After that we got to go explore anything we wanted to. I went and saw this really cool tsunami if you wanted to make it big wave you would make the wave big on this computer and then there was a really big wave. Last we went to see baby chicks, some were just hatching and others were running around like crazy, they were so cute.

To me 4th grade is the best grade to be in and I wish I could be in it again!

Levers

Article posted April 30, 2010 at 04:49 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 506

The picture I chose is picture number 3. This lever is a simple machine.  These students found out that when you put the fulcrum which is the point where it holds the lever in place. To use the lever the fulcrum has to be closer to the weight that you want to lift up, not the person trying to lift the weight, because it is harder to lift something if the fulcrum is closer to you.

Uncle Sam

I think this is a picture trying to tell me that the boats are like the countries. In the picture the boats Europe and Asia are sinking and the boat with uncle Sam is still floating.  This is because the other countries are failing with  food, economy and money and America is the new place to settle. The people on the boat seem grumpy because of the way their land is and don't know how good america will be for them.

We went to a website and had to read about five different people and I chose the upper class girl. She has a great life let me tell you about it. she lived in a two story house with a yard, had a private tutor , a bicycle, roller skates and a tennis court, last she didn't have any chores she had people who did them for her.  She also lived in Lake Forest, Illinois which is really close to where I live now. That is why I would choose to do the upper class girl!!

what color are the vowels A E I O U

Article posted April 9, 2010 at 04:41 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 480

A is the color of blue tears running down the side of my face.

E is green like a leaf or parsley in your chicken soup.

I is like a juicy orange or a cheetah running through the jungle.

O is like the yellow of the sun or the color of peace.

U is red like a rose or as red as a ruby.

Spring Break

Article posted April 7, 2010 at 05:42 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 1840

Over Spring Break I celebrated Passover Passover is a holiday that Jewish people celebrate. We had a Seder which is when you have a dinner with lots of different foods. My grandma and her friend came and had the Seder with everyone in my

During the Seder we read from a book called the hagadah. In the book we read the four questions. Becca my sister and I read the four questions because the youngest are supposed to read them.

Eliza is a "person" who comes to your house during the Seder. You put out a cup of wine for her and she drinks it. My mom filled the cup up all the way and later it was only halfway full. Though the only reason she can drink the wine is because we left the door open for her to come. Last my dad hid the matzah so we could find it. It's a tradition to do. My brother found it first then I found it last my sister did. We each got five dollars. Normally we get two dollar bills but since my uncle wasn't there we got five dollar bills.

That is some of the things I did over Spring Break

Right now I will be your master and get in your head and persuade you to listen to what I say but if I say to forget something you better do it. You say I am invading your private little heads mind well I'm not I just want you to read this story. Submit this into your mind and think deep about everything, now clear your whole mind. Yes clear it completely. Now you must decide something that you would have know two seconds ago if you didn't clear your mind when I asked. Would you like to hear what you have to decide well when you cleared your mind I did the same because if I don't then... So I don't know what you have to decide. guess what I am now I'm your fortune teller and lets see what happens ooooooo you will collide right into someone and you head will divide in half. Then when you die your bones will erode into the street. Many people will emit you when you play basketball because you are a ball hog.I come to an conclusion with my story and heads up boing sorry I didn't mean put your head up I meant watch out.

I

This story was about Aliki Graft and what she loves to do which is art.  She draws Phineas and Ferb for Disney Channel.  People who help her draw is her grandpa, because he got her into loving drawing, also the person who draws Phineas and Ferb with her because he keeps her coming up with ideas.  hersef because she is the one pushing herself so she can reach her goals.  I learned that she makes up some of the songs in Phineas and Ferb which is really neat.  She used to work for Nickalodean before she came to Disney Channel.  She draws most of the cartoons in Phineas and Ferb. She also went and studied art at USC.  I think it's important that she followed her dream because when you love something you should keep at it.  Art shows importance to her life because she loves to do it and she has done it her whole life.  I want to know what she did in her past I want to do what she does.  Maybe I will go to the collage that she went to so it would be good to know somebody went their.

A Family Affair

Article posted March 12, 2010 at 04:23 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 1985

The main idea was that just because your dad is famous doesn't mean you can't be a normal family. I found this because it said they love to take their dog Bo [their dog] on walks as a family.  It also said that they go sledding outside with their mom.  I think the author wrote this because they tell all the people who think that they just rome around their house, that they don't.  They have fun and do what a normal family out in the middle of Wisconsin might do.

Stealing Home Jackie

Article posted March 11, 2010 at 03:50 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 432

Stealing Home A Story of Jackie Robinson is about an African American boy who was never treated with any respect not even when he was playing sports [ he was really good at sports] because he was a different color than white.  When Jackie starts to play baseball in the black leagues a guy named Branch Rickey wanted some good p;ayers for the Dodgers team and he didn't care what color they were.  He got Jackie Robinson as a good ball player so he told  some of his players to go and watch.  When they tell Mr. Rickey he calls up Jackie and has a meeting with him.  When Jackie says he will join, well a black playing in the white major leagues is pretty amazing.  Jackie could change life history forever.

Reading this book made me feel sad sometimes because I know that if I were black at that time I wouldn't want to be treated that way if you were white back then think about how you would like it if you were being treated how they were.  I was happy when jackie was playing sports because he was good at them it made me like he was the superhero because he did what he was good at.  Also when he excepted to play for the Dodgers because he was going to help move the country forward to how it is today.  I would give this book 10 out of 10 stars because it was really fun to learn about past history and how just one brave colored person could be so intelligent at that time to know that just because you're black doesn't mean you can't do anything whites can't

Worst enemies Best friends?

Article posted January 25, 2010 at 04:03 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 530

This story is about these four girls who go to Abigal Adams Junior High. Charlotte has just moved from England. Avery is from Korea and was adopted. Meave has dyslexia so she uses a computer to work. Katina makes her own clothes and has a mentally disabled sister. These girls absolutely do not like each other and are put together as a lunch group. Their teacher says that by semester they have to know their favorite things and places. Well Katina wants it to be over, because on the first day Charlotte zips the tablecloth into her pants and splatters everything on the three other girls. Katina asks the teacher if they can have a sleepover to get this done with. Their teacher says it's okay with her if her parents say so. Find out if they become best friends or stay worst enemies. I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars, because these 4 girls are so different but they have the best relationship. I know how it feels to be new like all these girls because they are starting a new school it feels scary and uncomfortable but it's always good to start something new. Charlotte is hard to relate to because her mom died and she never has a permanent home. Katina is also hard, but I know it's hard to live with people who are so good at it. Meave is really hard, but I know how Hebrew school makes everything a lot harder but she can't even write so it's got to be more challenging. Avery is easier to connect with because I absolutely love sports especially soccer like Avery, but being Karean and loving sports when you mom wants you to be girly. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!!

For Winter break I went to Mexico . We went to an all inclusive called Dreams resort. My favorite part of the trip was swimming with the dolphins. We got a hug and kiss, and we went on their bellies and got a ride, and then we went on boogie boards with our feet down and the dolphins push us with their noses. Another thing I loved was that on Christmas Santa came and brought all the kids presents. He came from the ocean. There was also a little lagoon which is a small little area where fish swim around and you go snorkeling. That is what I did on winter break.

Roller coaster ride

Article posted January 8, 2010 at 05:52 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 2106

Back in the late 1800's, scary to them, seemed to be a ride going 6 mph. From then to today our roller coasters go 135 mph in 3.5 seconds which is really scary. They faced sideways in the 1800's instead of going forward like now. Today we don't always go forward sometimes we go in a 360 which I guess isn't sideways either! When the switch back roller coaster was being made it took four years to make, you would have to be excited for a long time. Now we only have to wait for the X2 for just about six months to be complete.

She said what now

Article posted December 10, 2009 at 03:31 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 713

Best friends is about these two girls Alice and Gemma. They have been best friends since they were little girls. Alice is more of a girly girl and Gemma is more of a boy. They have the most different personalities but they are the bests' friends in the world. When Alice has to move to Scotland they have no idea how they will live without each other. They have never ever had a birthday without each other. When their birthdays are coming up they don't know what to do.
I loved reading this book because the characters were really fun, because of their complete different personalities and they are still best friends. I think I would fit in the middle of Alice and Gemma because I'm not girly but I'm not a boy I'm just about in the middle which I like because I can be different from others in a way nobody else can. For example one time Gemma had to wear a dress to a party and Gemma ended up getting it dirty. And if I were to wear a dress to an outdoor party I would probably get it dirty.

How would school be 150 years ago, than from today? Well I can't tell you right away we have to learn together. First of all I have to tell you live in the past and have come to the future to be here with you. I'm Katinka Suesen and you are? Viola really I sit next to a girl named Viola. Lets get started. School is hard where I live because we get the worst punishments if we talk when we shouldn't or don't sit up straight or laugh at someone who is getting a punishment. You don't have physical punishments at your school. Well punishments are scary like if you are a girl you sometimes get hung by your hair. You know about coat hangers right. Well they take your hair and hang it on one of the hangers. I saw my friend Eliza Mea get hung by her hair. You could also get soap in your mouth and trust me it tastes horrible because just last week I forgot to sit up so I was slouching and the teacher put soap in my mouth and thats made of animal fat. Make sure you never ever get punished if you come into the past. Thats some of the punishments we have in the past.

The Crazy Life

We read the book the Witches and we watched the movie. They are similar in many ways but they have many differences like the boy was the boy in the book and Luke in the movie. But they were similar because the grandma smokes a cigar in both but a lot more in the book. I thought that they were both really good but I would recomend to read the book first because you can picture the story in your own mind and then you can see how it looks in the movie. It doesn't really matter but thats how I did it and I thought it was more interesting.

What A Life To Be In

Article posted November 19, 2009 at 03:57 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 262

Dennie is about a girl who wants to hang out with her friends on Saturday, have a boyfriend, and be on the cheerleading squad. Instead, she had to spend her weekends at modeling agencies, because her mom thinks that she should be on magazines and even in movies. How does Dennie live? Now her life is getting worse with a crooked spine and a Milwaukee brace.
Dennie is such a good book, because Dennie is different from kids and is scared to show her own personality, because her mom makes her life choices. Never in my life have I read such an undertaking story, because when Dennie starts her story she makes all of the emotions go in you while they are in her. If Iwere rating this book, it would be a ten, because once I started reading it was like the book was glued to my hands.

Crazy Castle Mania

Article posted November 17, 2009 at 03:35 PM GMT0 • comment (2) • Reads 626

Me and my Grandmama were on our way to the castle with half a dozen cats. I was a little scared they would eat me but grandmama said she wouldn't let them anywhere near me. When we got to the castle grandmama asked me "Do you have the mouse maker." "You bet I do." My toes were tingling with anticipation! We got to the castle and me and grandmama got out of the car. She set me on the ground and said "now be careful.""okay I promise." I said. I snuck under the door and I was in. It was thrilling that it was that easy. I sat down and listened for about two whole hours. Then I heard it. That the witches were going to levitate all the children in Norway after they ate the mouse maker. Wait no, they said they would spin them. And the mouse maker was in two little children's body. I found out where they live and went to see them. And after they were mice they levitated instead of spun. I went back two to the castle and stayed outside because I was really hungry. Grandmama was there and we went out to dinner. I was craving some gjetost. Grandmama got an omelet and some gjetost on the side. When the food got here she took one bite of the gjetost to look like she was eating it. Then she pretended to drop a fork put me down dropped the gjetost went back up and acted like she finished the gjetost. She just went on eating her omelet. When we were done Grandmama and me went back to the the castle. I went in because it was night. I put the mouse maker in all the food drinks in the fridge and freezer and anything else that was laying out. Then I left and me and grandmama went home. Right after lunch the next day me and Grandmama heard this horrid noise. Grandmama smiled so did I we both knew the mouse maker was working. By the time we got there with the mice we saw about 200 or more little mice through the window. We let the cats free and watched with pleasure. When all the mice were gone we bought 15 packs of tuna fish returned the cats and told the people to keep there money. Me and grandmama sold her house for only $500. We enjoyed very much living in the castle. I lived for 9 more years and grandmama lived for nine more years to. We both died on Halloween night.

How about Me You and a Tiger

Article posted November 6, 2009 at 04:00 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 572

The Tiger Rising was another great book by Kate DiCamillo. The boy Rob in this book lives with his dad in Florida at a Motel called Kentucky Star. While Rob is walking through the woods on his way to school he saw a tiger. This tiger was pacing back and forth, locked up in a cage. Will Rob find away to set this burning bright beautiful tiger free or will he just have to live with that wonderful pacing tiger locked up in a cage.
I enjoyed reading the Tiger Rising especially because the author brought me along on the trip. If I were to rate this book on a scale from 1-10 it would be a 10 because the book was full of emotions and friendship. I think anyone would enjoy this great book that takes you through Florida's morning mist.

Charlottes Web is a very interesting book, because even though the characters are animals there is a lot of emotions. Friendship occurs a lot because the pig in this book doesn't have any friends. Then by the end of the book the pig has the best friend that he always wanted.
This book was one of my favorites by far because the author has the best way of weaving a good tail. If I were rating it 1-10 it would be 10 because the story has a great adventure. I recommend this story to animal lovers and non-animal lovers, because it doesn't matter if the characters are animals, it matters what you find between the lines

Babe and Me

Babe and Me is a very good book for people who like sports or not.  This book takes you on an adventure to a place only you can explain.  Once you start there is no stopping.  The kid in this book is Joe Stoshack.  His dad and him aren't really close but just see what happens in just 3 days.

Babe and Me was really good because the author has this way of taking you into the book.  I went someplace new, with just a baseball card.  Babes card is very valuable now but even more valuable to Joe Stoshack.

Don't judge a book by it's cover

Article posted September 25, 2009 at 07:50 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 663

" Don't judge a book by it's cover."
--English proverb

I think that this quote means that if you judge something or someone before you try it or get to know the person you might miss out on something. For example if you look at a cover of a book and say that you won't read it then you might be missing out on the best book ever. So never judge something until you try it or get to know the person.

Honus and Me takes you to another world, that is why I enjoyed reading this book so much.  Joe Stoshack loves  collecting baseball cards.  Joe has a very interesting story story to tell you.  Once you start reading Honus and Me you won't ever want to put the book down until the end.  Joe Stoshack will make you tingle to read Honus and Me.

I liked this book because it took me on a big adventure right when you start reading.  Honus is like the number 1 baseball player of all time.  The author is great at writing all sorts  of books.  If I could rate this book 1-10 it would be 10 because the author never wants you to put the book down.  He is looking for you to go to another world that is in the book.  Honus and Me is on my top 5 by far.

"He that is good at making excuses is seldom good at anything else"
-Benjamin Franklin

This is my favorite quote because it was different and Liked what it meant. It meant if you are good at making excuses you probably don't know how to do it which is why you make excuses.

My favorite quote is
"You can't win unless you know how to lose."
-- Kareem Abdul Jabbar

I like this quote because, if you lose you learn from your mistakes and then try to win. if you always win then its no fun to win because you don't know what it's like to lose which is no fun. Also if you lose you can't say the other team cheated just because you lost, and if you win you can't tease the other team.
