LHDR -- My LA Speech

Article posted March 19, 2010 at 09:09 AM GMT-5 • comment • Reads 1344

For my LA speech I talked about a job that I had in the summer; I took care of chickens on a farm. It was a great experience and was very interesting, and I had a steady income from selling eggs at a farmers' market. Every day I would go to the pen and feed them inside the coop, and then fill up their water troughs. I would then head back inside with some buckets and fill them to the lid with the day's eggs. I would make this routine every morning, and at around lunchtime on Wednesdays I would bring them to the market, and come back later for my profits. I had to sell the chickens in late fall due to minimal daylight and snow. However, I will most likely resume in early to mid spring.

Two years ago I found out that I was old enought to got my jr. open water diver's certification. I told my best friend what I was going to do and he decided to go with me. Once we passed our written test we were able to go on my open water dives. It was a great experience because we went out right off Fort Stark which is 1000 feet from my house. After we passed, we got our cards and three months later my famly went to Jamaica, were I went scuba diving with my dad four times. I  love to scuba dive and I think it's an experience that every one should get to try.

My story was about a man called Stan Winston. He directed movies, made props and sculpted action figures. I loved what he did so much that I wanted to write a letter to him and see if I could meet him. After I waited for a while, I found out the month after I mailed the letter, Stan Winston had passed away.

MHSO -- Got Appendix?

Article posted March 19, 2010 at 01:05 PM GMT-5 • comment • Reads 1445

I did my LA speech on when my appendix burst. On Feburary 5th 2010, I was at school and started having pain in my left side. So I ended up going home. At midnight I got worse. My mom took me to the ER and when I got there they took a ultra sound and sent me home. About 3 hours after I got home I got very worse. I started vomiting and could barely walk.  So my dad took me back to the ER. When I got there whenever they touched me, I would scream. When I screamed, they knew that it was my appendix. So they rushed me into surgery. It was a 1% chance that it would of been my appendix when i had p[ain in my left side. And of course, I was that 1%.After i had surgery I couldnt walk for about 5 days and I was in the hospital for about one week. It took me about 4 weeks till I could play volleyball and start riding horses again. It has been 6 weeks and I feel almost 90% better.

In my speech I need to work on giving more eye contact.

-- Memorable Speech

Article posted March 19, 2010 at 01:12 PM GMT-5 • comment • Reads 1477

When i was nine, one weekend I was in North Conway with my mom, dad, Ali, Ali's mom, and Laddy my dog. Ali and I were really bored so the parents decided that we drive up Mt.Washington. It was a nice warm fall day and the leaves were changing colors. When we got to the mountain we droped my dad and dog off because they wanted to climb up Mt.Washington instead. The way up was really steep and about two-thrids the way up the car started to overheat. So we pulled the car over to the side to let it cool. When we stopped there was a rocky cliff going way down right beside us. When we looked at the mountains surrounding us they were all different colors because that the leaves were changing colors. When the car was ready to go we drove the rest of the way up till we got to the top. We visted all the buildings learning about Mt.Washingto. My dad met us only about  thirty minutes after we arrived up. The view from the top was breathetaking, we could see for miles away. I had a nice day with my family and friends and the mountain was beautiful.

The United States celebrates Columbus Day because Columbus discovered America.  But, he thought he discovered Asia. He really wasn’t the first person to discover America. People shouldn’t celebrate Columbus Day because he wasn’t really nice to the native Americans.   Columbus turned the natives into slaves.  He brought some of them back to Europe so they would be slaves.  Because he traveled by ship, he brought diseases back on his ships. Christopher Columbus was mean.

If we celebrate Columbus, we should celebrate all of the explorers.  Magellan sailed around the world.  Because of all the explorers, we have spices and different things that we trade.  The explorers found new trade routes.

I think that Columbus shouldn’t be the only explorer we celebrate.  People get the day off from work because of him, but other explorers did things we should celebrate.

I did a report on when we got lost in Tennessee. It was really fun. It was at night, on a boat and there was lightning. We were coming home from dinner at like nine o' clock and we saw lightning. We almost ran into a buoy and then we almost went the wrong way. It was a really fun and scary night.

Over the summer of 2004, my family went on a sailing trip around Maine and the coves. My brother and I use to ride on a diny that was tyed to theback of the sail boat, it was for going into the docks and also exploring the shore. But this one time, I was alone in the diny and riding over the waves while my brother and family were loungeing about on the deck. A speedboat had just gone by causing large waves to form. I didn't expect it but the next thing I nkew was that  I did a back flip in to the water and was watch the sail boat float away with my family on it. My frantic screaming caught my fathers attention to the problem. Quickly my grandfather some how turned the boat around, and my dad grabbed the bouy hook, and hooked it on the back strap of my lifeg jacket and houisted me up to the deck.

My leg killed for a few weeks, but then it healed and the black and blue color went away. Now I am always carefull of my posture on my board.
