Our monster's name is Spikey Mikey. He has purple spots and 8 legs. He has a purple tale with spikes, chains and blood. His belt has a triangular eye, teeth and maggots. He has one big hairy hand and 7 little hands. He looks gross, scary and spooky. He has horns. One of his eyes is dangling down. The Monster project was done by over 38 classrooms from around the world. Each classroom contributed characteristics and then based on those characteristics they built their own monster.

Our Reading Buddies helped us make hand print turkeys just before Thanksgiving. The grade 7s and 8s worked great with the grade 1s. Too bad I didn't get some pictures of the finished product. The turkeys escaped from the room before I had a chance.

Terry Fox is a national hero. He was diagnosed with cancer at a young age. He had to have his leg amputated because of the cancer. After that he decided to run across Canada on his artificial leg to raise money for cancer research. Terry started his journey in Nova Scotia. He ran an average of one marathon a day (that's 26 miles per day). Terry made it to Thunder Bay, Ontario before the cancer struck again and he had to quit his run. This time the cancer took his life. The date was June 28, 1981.
We recognized Terry and what he did and continues to do for cancer research by simulating what it is like to run with a disability.

"Hey! Hold on there! I said I wanted to learn the finer points about football. I didn't say I wanted to be the football!!!"
This is "Dog", our travel buddy from New Zealand. He just arrived a few days before school started. We have sent a travel buddy to New Zealand but unfortunately our New Zealand buddies have not received theirs yet. He's probably held up at the Customs office.
