In the middle of a scorching summers day a small family decided to go on a nice, quiet holiday. They rented an appealing and little red and battered cottage with a great view of the countryside. The family drove up a narrow, steep driveway that lead to the battered house. The old house was surrounded by chrysanthemums, on one side was a small field full of vegetables. An old, lifelike scarecrow was languishing in the middle of the field. The scarecrow’s shredded clothes were hanging off the rotting wood frame and in one hand it held a pitch fork. The scarecrow was as lifelike as an evil human adult in a haunted house on a silent night. The family all agreed it looked evil.
In the house the family was getting ready for bed. The house only had three bedrooms, two upstairs bedrooms and one downstairs. The oldest child, Emma, had to sleep downstairs, no matter how much she asked to sleep upstairs. But still her thoughts drifted back to the evil lifelike scarecrow.
The next morning the family decided to go for a walk and see the countryside but strangely Emma wanted to stay home. Emma goes into the kitchen to get a drink. Suddenly the phone rings. Emma picks it up but only hears slow heavy breathing. Emma started to feel scared and had the feeling that she was being watched.
Emma looked out the window to see if she could see her family but instead saw that the scarecrow was gone from the paddock. Emma tried to put on the TV to calm her nerves but nothing on TV interested her. Emma turned off the TV but at the same time Emma hears a loud knocking at the front door. She opened the old door slowly but to her surprise no-one was there.
By now Emma was terrified. Horrified, petrified, worried, Emma slowly dialled her mum’s phone numbers. Emma hears her mum’s ring tone up in her mum’s room. “Oh NO!” Emma thought, “What will I do now!!” Emma ran up the old creaky stairs leading up to her parents room.
Suddenly Emma sees the scarecrow looking evily into her parent’s room. So that’s where the scarecrow thought Emma laughing at her joke. But still she is terrified.
At the same time Emma’s mum’s phone rings…Emma answers it… but all she heard….was evil hysterical laughing.
