So now I have a dilemma...my students are blogging, but not always with correct spelling, punctuation, or capitalization. Do I fix it, have them fix it, or just let it go? I sort of feel like this is a place for them to free write, as they would in a journal. So, what does everyone else do with this problem?

We're Doing It! We're Doing It!

Article posted March 23, 2009 at 12:54 PM GMT-5 • comment (5) • Reads 923

I was so excited this weekend when I got an article from one of my students! On her own time this weekend, she logged into the blog site and wrote her first blog...very exciting! Today my ELO group worked on their first blog about Amber Brown. Two of them finished and published.

At this point, I'm not doing any revisions on their blogs. I just want them to get their ideas out there. Now I am excited to see them start to get comments.

So, this 38 year old teacher can learn new tricks!

2nd try

Okay, so I've shown all of my classes what blogging is and they're very excited. I've also managed to lose my class roster 2 or 3 times. Thankfully, one of my colleagues explained what an orphan was. So, I was able to find the missing class list. I think I've changed my layout to make it prettier...we shall see if it worked. I've managed to blog three times, but I did something wrong the second time and it apparently went into deep space..hmmm? How much time has this taken? Well, let's put it this way, we did a lot of silent reading in 2nd grade today lol. Moving on....

Oh...and I also figured out how to go back and edit....Yay me!

First attempt with kids

Article posted March 20, 2009 at 12:57 PM GMT-5 • comment • Reads 321

Ah ha=http://! I found this missing article that I thought went into deep space=http://! Here it is...

So today I got the names of the children that are in my ELO (extended learning opportunity) group put into the site...don't know if it is going to show up or not...still not certain how all this works. But not being certain is no reason not to start! About three of them got to log on and actually begin blogging about the books we've been reading. They were excited and so was I. I just hope we did it right! More to come...

Trying to figure this all out

Article posted March 18, 2009 at 01:08 PM GMT-5 • comment • Reads 309

So, yesterday a few faculty members introduced us to blogging at our faculty meeting. I'm thinking, "Oh my goodness...here goes the bar being raised yet again. One more thing that I'm going to have to find time for during my day." I went home feeling so unequipped to do this job.

Well, here I am today. I've put names into a class roster and even gave myself a "code Name". Now, I can't seem to figure out how to get a pretty background, and it has taken me forever to find this spot where I can actually type....but here I am!

So this is my test blog...we'll see if it works..and yes, I am the walrus.
