 how Maui found fire Maui set off on his journey, and along the way he met some birds. Finally, he found his grandmother in the underworld. He explained what had happened to him and he asked if he could have one of her fire fingers. Half way home, A cow came flying down from the moon and took the fire finger so he went back and back and back nine times with different excuses like “a Taniwha got it, a pig jumped out of the bush, I was walking past the stream and a turtle ate it, a monkey swung past on a vine and took it, a Rhino charged at me and I dropped it in the water, the light was bright and I tripped over, a Tui flew down and took it and a kiwi pecked my leg and I dropped it”. Maui went back for her last finger and she threw it at the bush. Maui called for rain then some more and then a storm he saw his grandmother throw her last fire seeds in the bush. Maui went back to the underworld to get some wood from the tree. Then he went back to the village and made some fire for the village with his family.
