Introduction
Sir William Hamilton was famous for inventing lots of things, including the jet boat.
Early Years
Sir William Hamilton was born 1899 and died 1978. William was popularly known as Bill Hamilton or Billy. When William was young he was a farm boy. He was independent and self reliant so he was always looking for things to do by himself. He also taught himself to swim and dive. Plus he made his own raft of oil drums and timber. As a young man he began an interest in motor racing. The one’s William designed went faster because they were built with streamlined bodies.
Hamilton Jet Boat
In 1953 he had developed his most famous invention, the jet propeller for boats! There are used all over the world for jet sprint boats, high speed ferries, police controlled boats, custom patrols, ambulances, passenger services, fishing fleets, even tourist trips.
Some other Inventions
William also invented a huge rotary scoop for digging up big scoopfuls of earth. He also invented the famous gondola lifts. Just after WW2, he started to design a range of bulldozers and loaders, even chairlifts.
Summary
Sir William Hamilton was such a great inventor he invented a lot of things we still use today.
