Tonight the students get to tour the school with their families. Our class is displaying their awesome compound machines. They also get to visit the other classrooms to see the wonderful learning happening around them. What did you see tonight that caught your interest? Let us know what you thought. Leave a comment below (I will need to aprove the comments first, so they won't show up automatically.) :)

Busy Weeks

Article posted May 17, 2011 at 06:51 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 711

Our class is busy working on stories for our blank books, along with reading about Shiloh, Stone Fox and Esperanza Rising, and completing district assessments. With the days getting warmer, its tough to focus on fractions, equivalent or otherwise. We will be sharing our immigration stories in the next day or two, each based on individual accounts of our family's history. They are podcasts that can be posted on our class' website. Currently, we are researching simple machines and organizing the information into keynote presentations. Students are currently working on a compound machine at home. Each student is designing and creating a machine that is made up of multiple simple machines. We will be sharing these too. Stay tuned.....

Henry Sugar's Motto

Article posted March 9, 2011 at 07:45 PM GMT0 • comment (11) • Reads 1709

In class, we are reading some short stories by Roald Dahl. The book is called The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More. We've just started the short story about Henry Sugar and came across his motto: "It is better to incur a mild rebuke then to perform an onerous task." Our class didn't understand this motto and set out to uncover it's meaning. Hopefully we'll discover Henry's motto.

Week in Review Feb 28th - March 4th

Article posted March 4, 2011 at 03:39 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 842

We've been busy here getting ready for state testing. It's two weeks of reading, math and science tests. Students have done a great job so far trying their best. We're finishing up our study of colonies and are getting deeper into the study of weather. In math our class complete a lab on volume and displacement. It was fun using the graduated cylinders to measure the displacement of large and small marbles. The students just started reading Night of the Twisters by Ivy Ruckman. I know they will enjoy the story! Lastly, our entire fourth grade is in the process of practicing for a musical in May. Each students is excited about their part in the musical The Nightingale. It's sure to be an awesome musical!!
