New Zealand

New Zealand is a small island country in the south Pacific Ocean.

New Zealand is made of two main islands and many small islands. Lake Taupo is a volcano and a lake. The Southern Alps is heaps of mountains. The biggest mountain is Mount Cook. Going to the North Island the Waikato River is the biggest in NZ (New Zealand).

New Zealand is one of the biggest dairy farming countries. We also get money from crops and tourists (visitors) plus wool, meat and L &P.

Our sports are cricket, rugby (our team is the All Blacks), soccer (our team is the All Whites), netball and watersports at beaches, lakes and rivers. The World Rowing Championships 2010 will be held in New Zealand!

We have no native mammals except bats. But we have lots of native birds. Many don’t fly. Our national bird is the kiwi plus our people are called that too (no, we are not birds).

Our population is 4 million. One in four people live in Auckland (our biggest city). Most of our people live in towns or cities. Our capital city is Wellington.

Although New Zealand is a small country it has a lot of variety with its plants, birds, landscape and people.
