Maungautari Everyone, shhh!!! Listen to the birds.
On Tuesday 9th March Room 5 went to Maungatautari with our teacher and some parents. We also went with Mrs Collins. First we went to school. At 9.00am we got in a car with a few different students and one of the student’s parents.
Once we got there we had something to eat. after that we went to a sign of information about Maungatautari. Beside that is a table that says ‘check your bags for mice’. There is a mesh fence with a slippery top so cats cannot get in. If anything touches the electric wire at the top an alarm will go off so the people know to go and fix the problem.
There is a special entrance that you have to go through to enter, one door opens at a time, so know pests come in.
After a while Mrs C took out a cork and a jar. She got them out so she can make a sound to make fantails come. She also put some spit onto the jar to make it squeak. She said “only time you are allowed to spit” as she put it on the jar. When she was doing it she did not hear a fantail, so we will try again somewhere else.
After we had a bit of a walk we saw a pink ribbon with the letter “R” on it. We have 2 letters we were looking for and those are “R” and “S”. Then we went through the bush to see the tracking tunnels. To see the tracking tunnel we had to go off track to see the prints from anything that has been creeping through the bush. When we checked the tunnel we saw some bug prints. Oh, and when we went over a big log 7 of us all got a sting. I was one of them that got a sting. The stings were painful. In total, of every sting on the 7 people, there were 18 altogether. All the kids, except for one, were crying. After the stings we went back to school and we had a rest inside our class and read a book. When the bell rang we had lunch. Before we had lunch we put some cream on to stop it stinging.
