My friend Georgia has leukemia. I think it is a type of cancer. My mums mum had a type of cancer. But she died when my mum was 12. I never got to meet her. I am angry about that. Since Georgia is at home she will be doing the tongue for the monster project. She will get the description some how. I wonder if she has the stuff for it. I hope Georgia is going to be ok.

Dairy Products

Article posted September 23, 2010 at 01:17 AM GMT • comment • Reads 393

Dairy Products are food made from milk. Cows eat grass to make milk. The grass travels throughout the bloodstream and into the udder. Some people in the country still do hand milking. Machine milking is much easier. It takes only five minutes.
First the farmer puts the suction cups on the teats, and then the machine sucks the milk from the udder. It only takes about five minutes to suck the milk out of the udder.
The tanker trucks take the milk to the factory. The tankers insulate the milk to keep it cool. Once the milk is in the factory they pasteurize the milk. That means that they quickly heat it, then quickly cool it. They do that to kill germs and bacteria. Dairy products are, cream, milk, cheese, butter, ice-cream, and yoghurt. These things get processed.
Dairy products are one of the main things produced in New Zealand.

On Monday me and the class went to ukulele practice. Instead of two fingers we used three fingers this week. Some people got to sit on chairs. We do ukulele practice in the new library. The ukuleles are red or they are the colour of light brown. The songs we did were Shortland Street, How Much is That Doggie in the Window, and others. I love doing ukulele practice, it is so much fun.

New Zealand.

Article posted August 2, 2010 at 11:54 PM GMT • comment • Reads 480

New Zealand is not the smallest country in the world.
Lake Taupo is the largest volcano and it is still active. Waikato River is the longest river in New Zealand. Mount Cook is the tallest mountain. It is 3764 metres tall.
Kiwifruit and other crops get sent to other countries from New Zealand.
Some people like netball. The positions are WD, WA, GA, GS and others. We also play rugby, soccer, baseball, cricket and others.
We have not native mammals except for bats. There are two types of kiwis. There is a bird called a kiwi and a person can be called a kiwi. The bird that is a kiwi is New Zealand’s national emblem. Many native birds don’t fly.
New Zealand has a population of exactly four million people. Most people live in cities or towns. The biggest city, Auckland, has over one million people. New Zealand’s capital city is Wellington.
New Zealand is small but the country has a lot of different plants, birds, landscape and people.

The curse of the haunted castle

Article posted July 28, 2010 at 11:45 PM GMT • comment • Reads 498

Once upon a time there was a 13 year old girl. Her name was Merleah. She has long blonde hair and brown eyes the colour of chocolate.
One day Merleah saw sign that said Oh La Lane. There she saw a beautiful yellow, well mostly yellow, castle. The door opened. She went inside. But the thing was she did not know that it was haunted. It was so pretty. The floor was made out of sparkly pink glass. The walls were made out of purple sparkly glass. And everything else was made out of glass and every single colour.
“Oh this is just beautiful. This I could die for.”
Then she heard strange voices from upstairs. She went in the room. She saw ghosts.
“Ahhh! Run away!” said Merleah.
“Stop! Would you like some of this?”
“Oh, okay.”
She drank it.
“Why am I off the gr, gr, ground.”
“Tricked you. You’re one of us.”
“I’m a ghost?”
“Yes.”
“I am going to … What is that button?”
“Nothing,” said Queen Calissa.
It said Curse Has Lifted.
She pressed it. The ghosts were gone and she was back to normal.
“I will never go there again.”
And she lived happily ever after.

MAUNGATAUTARI

Article posted March 28, 2010 at 09:48 PM GMT • comment (2) • Reads 494

We’re gonna walk up a mountain na na na na na. We’re gonna walk up a mountain na na na na na. Look, look we are here. WOW here is a giant smiley face.
On Tuesday 9th March the class went to Maungatautari. Some of the class had to stay out of the cage because there would be too many people in there and we would all get squashed. Also we would not be able to open the door. When one door was open and you tried to open the other one while that door was open it will not open. If you don’t know what the netting is called – it is called mesh. The mesh is so small that not a baby mouse could get through. How amazing. There is a slippery bit on top of the mesh so if a cat tried to climb over then it would fall down. There is also an electric wire on the top. The class saw a fantail, kaka and kakariki! When we went for the bush walk the fantail followed us. Eden and some others got stung by some bees. I don’t like the bee part. Mrs Collins had a jar and a cork. She spat on the jar and it sounded like a fantail. And a fantail came, it started following us. If started following us because we startled bugs and insects. And then the fantail eats the bugs. After that we went off track. We went off track I think 4 times. When we went off track we had to follow these pink ribbons. There were some children who got to have turns to be a leader. The leaders were me, Georgia, Sam and Jasmine. There were tracking tunnels. Tracking tunnels are tunnels that make sure that no mice or rats are in there. All the goats are gone. There were seven people that got stings. Some of the people there got stung 7 times and mostly 2 times. And that = 18.

EXTREME EDGE ROCK CLIMBING

Article posted December 10, 2009 at 09:24 PM GMT • comment (1) • Reads 785

On Friday 27th me, Hayley and Miss Knight went to Extreme Edge rock climbing. When the class got there I was really nervous. But I had a got at it and then I wasn’t so scared anymore. That was really good. I felt scared and nervous. It was scary until I tried. Some of the other kids did the breezy ladder. I fell off. But it’s fun when you go down. The ropes are colourful. Two on the boys demonstrated for the class. They did the one when it is upside down. The man held onto it with his hands. And then he held onto the rock with his feet.

MONSTER STORY

Article posted December 10, 2009 at 09:09 PM GMT • comment • Reads 621

She smiles a lot. Her friends say she is One day a girl was going to the shops. She has long brown hair. cool. And the best and wonderful thing about her is she is so, so funny.
So she got in the car and drove to the shops. She gets out of the car and goes into the shop. First she gets a trolley and grabs some flowers and food. The girl turns around and sees a fierce and mean animal or monster.
She turned the corner and froze in fear when she saw a large face right in front of her. The creature looked like a monster. It was huge and hairy. Two large, yellow eyes stared at her. It had large pointed ears that twitched and sharp teeth with fangs on each side. The beast bared its teeth and took a step forward.
The girl ran past the monster and went to the people who sell things. And the girl said,
“Where did that monster or animal come from?”
The person who sells things says, “By the way that is an animal.”
“What type?” said the girl.
“That is a cat,” says the other person. “It is a mean and fierce cat so you better watch out for that cat.”
“Oh yes I will definitely watch out for that cat.”
So she quickly runs home and forgot about her car. She rings animal emergencies centre – one, four, three, two.
“Hello, Animal Emergencies Centre.”
“Hi. There is this cat that is fierce and mean. I thought maybe you could catch it.”
“Sure. Where is the place I should go?”
“To the back of the Hamilton supermarket.”
“OK, we’re on it.”
“Thanks. Bye.” (hangs up phone).
That will do. I forgot about my car. I’ve got to go get it.
I am here. Now what? Where is my car? Ahhh! It is getting crushed by the crusher. Nooo!
“Hi, how did it go?”
“All done and dusted. This cat is going to learn how to be nice to people.”
(Five months later).
Nooo, the cat is back. I am doomed. I need some more food. I still need a brand new car. So I will go and get a new car then go to the supermarket.
I’ve got my car no. That cat is gone. Yes!

Monster project

Article posted October 27, 2009 at 10:51 PM GMT • comment • Reads 541

I'm working with Olivia and we are making the nose and the horns. We cut out cardboard. When we cut out the cardboard it was hard. I had to change the spikes because they were too skinny. Me and Olivia had to glue some more spikes on to the horns. The fun bit was the challenge. And that was cutting out the cardboard. It was funny when Olivia put the spider on the nose. The difficult part was cutting the cardboard.

Where we live

Article posted October 13, 2009 at 02:38 AM GMT • comment • Reads 471

The Livewires live in the Waipa District, North Island, New Zealand. It is peaceful and quiet. There is not much traffic here. Fourteen people live on farms. Ten people live in town.
New Zealand has lots of farms. Mostly dairy farms. The dairy farms have cows on them. The dairy farm has a machine on it. The cows go there to get milked. The milk goes to the Fonterra factory.
Here are the two towns. One is called Te Awamutu. Our population (how many people live in Te Awamutu and Kihikihi) is ten thousand. In Te Awamutu there is a big Fonterra dairy factory. The factory collects all the milk from the dairy farms. The milk goes into trucks, big trucks too.
There is a place somewhere for native animals. There is a fence so stoats, ferrets and mice don’t get in.

KIWIS

Article posted August 20, 2009 at 12:55 AM GMT • comment (3) • Reads 477

Kiwis are a native bird to New Zealand. Kiwis are special because they are the only bird with nostrils at the tip of their beaks. Kiwis dig their beaks into the ground to get their prey. They blow the dirt out of their nostrils so they can breathe again. A kiwi is about the size of a farmyard hen but their eggs are six times the size of a hen’s egg. The male incubates the egg for 65 to 75 days.
