Once day Sophie was very sad because she had no friends. So she went for a walk and saw the ducks. Then she came home. She had an apple because she was hungry and they are her favourite fruit. Then she went to her bedroom and thought she would have a sleep. She got into bed and she fell asleep.
The monster lives under her bed. He had to come out because she was snoring too loud. So he thought he would sit on her. When she woke up she saw him and screamed as loud as she could. So the monster came down on her bed.
“Stop yelling!”
So she did. He was half deaf now.
“I’m like you with no friend,” he said.
“Do you want to be friends then?” Sofie said.
“Yes please. I really need some friends,” said Monster.
So they became friends.

The yeti is about 2m tall and covered in hair. The yeti's foot print is way bigger than a human's foot print. Some scientists believe the yeti may, in fact, be the last survivors of giant gorilla like ape called gigantopithecus. People
in remote parts of russia and china have also reported seeing similar wild hairy creatures.

New Zealand is a small country with two large islands in the south Pacific Ocean.
Lake Taupo is the largest volcano in New Zealand. Waikato River is the longest river in New Zealand.
We make money from dairy farming because you can sell the milk that comes from cows on the farm. We can earn money from sheep farming too. We can shear off their wool and sell it. We get heaps of tourism in New Zealand.
Our rugby team is called the All Blacks. Our soccer team is called the All Whites. We do rowing, cricket and netball as well.
Our country has no native mammals except for bats. We have lots of native birds but many don’t fly. People are called kiwis and a bird is called a kiwi too.
The population of New Zealand is four million. Most live in towns or cities. One million live in the biggest city, Auckland.
Although New Zealand is a small country it has a lot of variety with its plants, birds, landscape and people.

Once there was a girl called Diana who had her first day of school. Her teacher was called Sophie. Someone who she sat beside said to watch out for Bruce the meanest bully in the school.
So when she went out to play she was scared. Then someone came over to her. She almost ran away. Then he said he wasn’t Bruce. So they sat down and had a talk about Bruce.
“How mean is Bruce?” said Diana.
“Very mean,” said Sam, the boy next to her.
“But he only picks on new people,” said Sam.
“So he will pick on me!” cried Diana.
Diana had a look around for Bruce. She felt a push and a harder one and an even harder push. She was getting pushed into school. She had a look behind her. It was BRUCE pushing her.
“I heard you’re a new kid,” said Bruce.
“I heard you’re mean,” said Diana, “and you push new people around.”
“Yes, you’re right. And you’re next,” said Bruce. “I am going to pick on you until the end of this week, two weeks if you tell the teacher. And so on ...” said Bruce.
So Diana listened to him. But on Thursday her friend Sam saw Bruce picking on her and waited for her to tell on him. But she didn’t.
The next day Sam watched again. This time he was going to tell on Bruce. He saw Bruce still picking on Diana and she was crying.
So Sam told on Bruce. The teacher came and saw him and the teacher said,
“Detention on Monday Bruce.”
So Bruce stopped bullying so he didn’t have to do detention anymore.

Wow!! We’re going to look at some birds with Mrs C. It’s tomorrow on Tuesday 9th March. Then it was the day, the day that the Livewires went to Maungatautari. When we got there, there was a long underground fence with a fence on the top too. It has mesh as well and a slippery top and on top of it there was an electric wire. And there was a cage that we had to go into. After we got in we had to shut the first door before we could get through to the other side and before that there was a table that you can check your bag for mice. Then we went to the Kaka feeding. On the way we stopped and got the cork and the jar and Mrs C spat on the jar and rubbed the cork on it and it was calling the fantail. The fantail didn’t come so we continued. When we got there some Kaka were looking for food. They didn’t find any and we went a way and they came back. When we came back they were climbing up. And there were some Kakariki. They were in their nest and there were two babies and a parent. Then we went through the bush and some people were leading and were checking the tracking tunnels and there were black with R’s on a card. We had to follow the pink ribbons and check the tracking tunnels. There were insect footprints on the ink. In the old days there were goats so the ground was all soft so it was better to walk on. Then I got stung by a bee, it was painful. 7 people got stung 18 times. I got stung and it started to get swollen. There was a hive nearby and we must have disturbed them and then they gave us a sting.

We went to Extreme Edge and everyone got into a harness. Some people got on the walls first. I went on second. Some people climbed five walls, or maybe more, because I climbed five.
I think some people were scared at first and then they tried it and they felt proud of themselves. The height was 8 metres and that is high. But I wasn’t afraid because the parents are holding onto you so if you fall the parents will catch you. The 3rd wall I climbed I wanted to let go and Miss Knight was watching and I made it to the top. Some men climbed a big wall that has no belay, only hooks.

One day Kathy went to a concert and sang and sang and sang. And then she stopped and won a trophy. She went back home and went inside. But she didn’t know that small beady eyes were watching her. She went through the house and out the back door and heard a strange noise coming from around the corner.
She turned the corner and froze in fear when she saw a large face right in front of her. The creature looked like a monster. It was huge and hairy. Two large, yellow eyes stared at her. It had large pointed ears that twitched and sharp teeth with fangs on each side. The beast bared its teeth and took a step forward.
She said “Yikes!” and then ran away. She was terrified. Then she went back. Her sister was in the costume that scared her. She took the costume off and then it was her sister!
Then her mum came out and said, “What’s that racket? Come inside for lunch. Dad will be home any minute.”

The Livewires live in the North Island of New Zealand. It is very peaceful because it is very quiet. Ten people live in town and 14 people live on farms.
There are lots of farms, mostly dairy farms, with cows that make milk that goes to a dairy factory to make cheese and butter.
Some people live in Te Awamutu and Kihikihi. The population is
10 000.
The small mountains are Pirongia, Kakepuku and Maungatautari. They are extinct volcanoes. Maungatautari is a bird sanctuary with a 50 km fence to stop pests such as cats, dogs, rats, mice, ferrets and stoats.

A kiwi is a bird that lives in New Zealand. Did you know kiwis eat worms? Their favourite foods are insects and berries. Kiwis have strong legs to run away from enemies. A kiwi is the size of a hen but the egg is six times bigger than a hens egg. Did you know a female is bigger than a male? The kiwis burrow is up to 1 to 3 metres long. Kiwis are flightless birds. They are the only birds that have nostrils at the end of their beaks.

On Sunday we are taking the boat to Karapiro. My Mum and Dad are going on the board. I am going on the biscuit and Dad knows how to jump on the side of the wake. Once Mum jumped off the side of the wake and she jumped with her mouth open and split her lip.
