Yesterday was Levi's birthday! We are going to visit with the KinderKids this afternoon! GO MAINE! Today we made synonym spiders on their legs. We made cupids with our faces for the month of February and they are so cute. February 2nd was ground hog's day and the ground hog saw his shadow, six more weeks of winter. We have 2 new charts for long a like cake and short a like apple. If we see anything in a book that has a long a or a short a we write it on the chart. Yesterday we taught Mrs. Bowden's class how to do morning message and calendar on the smartboard. We are doing a science experiment with soda and an egg. We are pretending the egg is a tooth and we are going to see what happens with the egg.

This week we made words using these letters: b i g g e s t. Yesterday used magnets to see which things were magnetic or not. On Tuesday afternoon, we went to the gym to watch 2nd grade do a play about Martin Luther King Jr. They did a really GREAT job and it was fun. Yesterday we met our new music teacher and it was Mr. Mallek's last day.

We made snowmen out of very old marshmallows. We made books this week by using our fingers and hand to tell the story. We watched a movie about electricity. On Wednesday we had a snow day! Did you have a good Martin Luther King Day? We had a new poem this week where we had to write the words cold or warm in the poem. We learned how to play Roll A Snowman. This afternoon we are going to teach Ms. DeBeck's class how to play the game.

We cut out some snowflakes on Monday. They are hanging in our classroom from the ceiling. It looks like it is snowing. We made snowmen with a picture of our face. They are cute. We have been working on consonant clusters. When we read a book we look for consonant clusters and we are writing on a poster. Today we had kiwi for snack. Over vacation Mrs. Welch's computer was sick, but now it's all better! Yesterday we made some words using these letters: r a b b i t s. We have a new work station and a new work station chart. We read The Mitten by Jan Brett and we made a story map with it.

Yesterday we made gingerbread houses because we were learning about Christmas in Germany. We wrote New Year's resolutions. We read 4 versions of the Gingerbread Man. We voted on our favorite. Our favorite one was the Stinky Cheese Man. Next week is Christmas! We are going to have PJ day and movie day on Tuesday. It is going to be a FUN day!

We got some new paper to write letters on this week. We are making cards for a kindergarten class. Next week we are going to make gingerbread houses. Don't forget to bring your cardboard covered in foil for the bottom. On Tuesday we learned about how Italy celebrates the winter holidays. They celebrate Christmas and they leave out their shoes for Santa to leave presents. We took a picture of our shoes and we cut out pictures of presents we would like. We put our pictures in the hall so people can see them. We made a BIG book of the 12 Days of Christmas.

Our Trip to the Hudson Museum

On Wednesday we went to the Hudson Museum at the University of Maine in Orono. This week we learned about Mexico and how they celebrate holidays. We made poinsettias because in Mexico they celebrate with poinsettias. We made gingerbread babies with our faces. They are so cute and they are on our classroom door. We made words using the letters j u m p i n g. We learned how to do Write the Room. Yesterday we did Write the Room with the vowel i.

Week of November 22nd

Today we are going to do things like colonial people. We are trying to make butter like colonial people. We poured cream into a glass jar. Then we shook and shook and shook for a long time. The cream changed into butter. In the afternoon we are going to have cornbread with the butter we made. We are going to do some activities like colonial people.

We started a new station this week called Reading With a Buddy. Today we played hopscotch. We made a turkey and on the turkey we put things we are thankful for. Yesterday we played charades and we learned ug words. We also have a fine motor station where we work on building muscles in our hands. We are looking forward to talking with the KinderKids.
