Well, congratulations are due to Peter and his Global Reading Challenge team. Peter and his teammates read a set of books and took part in the challenge where they were asked questions about each of the books. They just competed in the city semi-final competition downtown and placed second. That means they'll go on to the finals! Good luck Peter. Check out his blog to see what he has to say about it.

Students in our class have worked very hard on writing their volcano reports. We were working in the 5 paragraph report framework. Students were to answer the following questions: What is a volcano? How do they erupt? What happens when they erupt? What types of volcanoes are there? and what is the Ring of Fire?
The most challenging part was organizing notes and creating paragraphs out of that. After a little frustration and some hard work, they were able to create nice and informative reports.

As we polish up our comparing and contrasting skills in class, we created a list of good comparing words and good contrasting words to use in our writing. Students then read information on freezing rain and sleet and completed a Venn Diagram. Finally they wrote a comparing and contrasting paragraph using our vocabulary words, and posted their work to their blogs.
