Art with words, expresses feelings and even sometimes is deep with feelings, these are all describing what poetry is.
A few days ago Div. 3 (my class) did our first annual poetry slam! A poetry slam is when people get together and present poems that they enjoyed from another poet or a poem written by them. There are a big variety of poems, limericks, haikus and many more. Also, a poetry slam usually is a contest that is taken place in a café. As I find out more about a poetry slam I found out that they judge you on a numeric scale.
Our poetry slam took place in our classroom. It wasn’t perfect but no one is perfect. When we got in the classroom there was numbers on the board to place what order we are in. The people who got to the board first where the first ones to choose what order they’ll be in. We had a spotlight and a dark room. It looked like a nice place to present a poem.
Now about the poems that were presented. I’m not going to be judging each and every poem. I can say that all the poems were phenomenal! Different kinds of poems were presented and everyone memorized their poems. The poems that we presented were one from another poet and one that we made. I don’t have a favorite poem but I know everyone did a great job and put effort into their poem.
When we presented them everyone said it with feeling and meaningfulness. No one did it with no meaning to it. Everyone had fun and enjoyed listening and watching people presenting poems that they made. I recommend classrooms to have a poetry slam because it is fun and it teaches you a lot of poetry.
