Colorado History
Want to hear some facts about Colorado? Well you came to the right place! Colorado is not only known for the Rocky Mountains, but for its unique name. In Spanish, Colorado meant color red. The explorers who called it color red are Dominguez and Escalante. They came in 1776. How they got the name is one day they found a river that was red because of the soil so they called it the red river.
Another interesting fact about Colorado is a fames explorer is John C. Freemont. John c. Freemont came here because he and his team went to build a railroad through the Rocky Mountains, but they failed to build a railroad. There is also a county named Freemont.They came in 1848.
Do you know how Colorado got so populated? Colorado got populated because there was a gold strike in the Red River so more, and more people went to get gold. Soon there was no more gold and the people went away. But later another gold strike was found. So all the people came back and stayed. There is still gold there.Mining took place during 1850-1900
