2008-2009 4th Graders
Welcome to our blogs. We are a fourth grade class in Colorado, and we’ll be posting our blogs throughout the school year. Some of the students’ blogs will be responses to assignments; some will be sharing their creative writings; and some will just want to strike up a conversation – or friendship – with their readers. We hope you stop by often, and enjoy the writings. We also hope that you share your thoughts and some information about yourself, your school, and your geographic location. Happy blogging!!!!

Do you want to know about Colorado history? If you do you’ve come to the right place! I’m going to tell you some facts about Colorado.
First in our Colorado history I’m going to tell you about the Ute. Ute is a name for the Indians of Colorado. The Ute came to the state Colorado in the year 1400 The Ute lived in teepees and they were moved to the southwest part of Colorado as a reservation. As they killed animals they traded with different tribes such as the Anazazi. Also the Ute traded things such as animal skin, rare stones, and other items.
Next In our history people called mountain men came along in the time of 1822-1843. Men would go up into the mountains and hunt at least for a year. They needed knifes, traps, clothing and guns to survive. The most famous animals that were being hunted at this time were beavers because the beaver tails would make nice tall black hats made out of strong leather. The dangers they had to face were starvation, storms, wild animals, sickness, and Indian attacks. All the food they had was deer, buffalo, and elk. The men stopped hunting wild animals be cause all the animals were dieing and being hunted so the animals would go extinct if they kept hunting the animals.
The next thing in our Colorado history is going to be the settlers in the San Luis Valley. A bunch of settlers came in the 1851 and built a town in the San Luis Valley. They had to travel miles and miles and days on foot and wagons pulled by horses, plus usually people never got to ride the wagons because almost all the wagons pulled furniture and other house held things. All the settlers wore were wool, cloth, hats, dresses, and boots. Another fact about the settlers in the San Luis Valley was the jobs people had to do once they got to the valley. Those jobs were farming, building, cooking, and sometimes hunting. Also the kids even had to do those jobs. I don’t know about you but those are some hard jobs for me. The kids had to work but they had some free time too and during that free time they would play games like races with feet and horses. The boys would wrestle with each other. The first houses they made when they first came to the San Luis Valley were only made out of sticks and mud. The houses were called jacales (ha-ca-les). The other houses they made were made of stone and mud bricks.
I would love to learn more about your state or country so post me a comment and thanks for reading my Colorado blog.
