Hello former students and students to be. So far this summer has been full of excursions and family fun. I recently went to a wedding in Lake George, NY. While there, we went to Fort Ticonderoga and visited Quechee Gorge on the way home. I put a sand volleyball court in my back yard and I have been working on the gardens around it. I have not been on any hikes yet, but yesterday I biked 40 miles with Mr. Gleason. Below is an Animoto displaying some photos of the fun I have had.
I hope you are all enjoying your summer too. Please post on your blog what you have been up to. TJB and PMM have recently posted.

This movie was created using iMovie, but when it was uploaded to YouTube and Vimeo some of the quality was lost. So you can also watch the clips on a Smilebox I created.

For the last three weeks I have been reading Windblowne, by Stephen Messer, to my class. Each day the students would blog any questions or comments that came to mind. After finishing the book the students wrote final questions pertaining to the book and what it is like to be an author. Today we Skyped with Stephen to ask those burning questions. Below is an Animoto featuring photographs from today's event.
Here are some things we found out today: (May contain spoilers.)
1. Uncle Gilbert was mean because he had been alone for so long and he was preparing for an attack from Lord Gilbert.
2. Stephen's favorite kites are the crimson kite and the kite eater.
3. Two does get healthy again.
4. Stephen enjoys writing/creating books and sharing them with children.
5. Mrs. Gleason is a good cousin and Stephen has had a lot of fun with her. Also Stephen is the older cousin.
6. As a child Stephen enjoyed reading, biking, and making up stories.
7. Stephen does make money from his book and he does give some to charity.
8. Stephen has three cats; Smoke, Makie, and an unnamed cat. This became a topic of discussion as the students wanted to suggest names for Stephen's most recent cat. He has a nice list and I am sure that she won't be nameless much longer.
9. Stephen enjoyed flying kites as a child when he lived in Arizona.
10. Some of his characters have traits from people he knows, but none of them are based on real people.
11. It took four months to write the actual story, but four years to edit it.
12. There is no theme music for Windblowne, however Stephen did listen to music that inspired him while he was writing the novel.
13. The glass eyes on the hunters are cameras to serve Lord Gilbert.
14. Publishing the book is a life dream and was great fun.
15. Oliver is around 11-13 years old.
16. Ilia probably has long dark hair, is short, quick, kind, and she is good at climbing trees.
17. Oliver was gone for four days.
18. The kites took the place of animals.
Some of the Students' Comments Included:
1. It was interesting how Oliver traveled between worlds.
2. Students liked it when Oliver put oil in Lord Gilbert's pipes.
3. Student's loved Ilia's treehouse, the monster in the forest, kite charms, the two moons on the cover, Ilia, and the kites.
4. They also thought that this book had a lot of action that held their interest.
5. The children would love there to be a second book.

Congratulations second graders. What a wonderful job you did on the performance of The Wager. It was so much fun to share this experience with your family. Below you will find a smilebox that contains the videos separated by Acts.
Thank you to everyone who brought in Danish food. What a great spread we had!!! I would also like to thank Mrs. Burgess for providing the costumes, props, and her time.
Have a wonderful long weekend and I will see you next month. That is right June is here and you are almost third graders.
