So Much Depends Upon

Candy

So much depends upon

A piece of candy

Melting in my mouth

With a heavenly taste

A Decimal Point

So much depends upon

A measly decimal point

Changing the value of everything

But yet so small and meek

Grass

So much depends upon

The green grass

Lain across the soil

Producing the air we breathe

A Book

So much depends upon

A book of knowledge

Expanding the brains of everyone

Without anything more than words

A Chair

So much depends upon

A wooden chair

Carrying the heavy burden of a man

Creaking under the weight

Earth

So much depends upon

The giving earth

Holding us all

With gravity at its side

Laughter

So much depends upon

A laughing child

Spreading joy over everyone

Just by a push of the stomach

Music

So much depends upon

Classical Music

Overflowing with notes of wonder

Waiting for someone to play them

Myths

So much depends upon

Fascinating Greek myths

Their tales explaining acts of nature

With a twist of gods

Reflection on Recess

Reflection on Recess

Every time I go to recess, I dread going back to class.  Most kids would say that, because they would like to have more fun playing.  I dread it because of the wait in line, and that our class is always the last to go eat or have another period of study.  The rules in our school are:  The whistle blows the first time, we freeze.  The second time it blows, we put back the equipment and stand in line quietly in front of the door.  Somehow the rules have changed this year and we were told to follow the old ones.  We followed them, but the reason it takes so long to come back to class is that one teacher wants us to do it a different way.  Sometimes we are stubborn and insist on doing it the way we were told, but three quarters of the class get worried about the consequences and follow the way the teacher on duty tells us to do it.  Another reason that we are late is that we stop every three seconds on the way to class and some people from 5D are talking and no one stops them. We stop the line and wait until they stop talking, but they never do.  I hope we can find a way to stop this nugatory tardiness and arrive at the same time as 5A and 5B.

Cardiocascular System Facts

Article posted December 9, 2010 at 08:20 AM GMT0 • comment • Reads 913

Facts we learned about the Cardiovascular System

The heart has four chambers, the left and right atrium and the left and right ventricle.

Deoxygenated blood –dirty blood.

Oxygenated blood-rich blood.

The left atrium receives oxygenated blood from the lungs through the pulmonary vein.

The left atrium contracts causing the mitral valve to open sending the blood to the left ventricle.

The left ventricle contracts sending the blood all over the body through the aorta.

The aorta is the largest artery in our body.

The Septum is a thick muscle that separates the right chamber from the left chamber.

The right atrium receives deoxygenated blood from the body through the Superior and Inferior Vena Cava

The right atrium contracts causing the tricuspid valve to open sending the blood to the right ventricle.

The right ventricle contracts sending the blood to the lungs through the Pulmonary artery so you could exhale it.

The dietitian informed us to eat fish because it has omega 3.

Veins carry deoxygenated blood.

Arteries carry oxygenated blood.

The esophagus carries food.

The windpipe/Trachea carries O2.

The heart is the only muscle that never stops working.

The different chambers work simultaneously in the heart.

Fiber stops your arteries from clogging.

Exercising brings up your HDL that burns your LDL.

There are three different types of blood vessels, arteries, capillaries, and veins.

We could have half a chocolate bar every day, and not on a daily basis.

The left ventricle is the strongest chamber in your heart.

Capillaries connect arteries and veins.

Platelets clog your cuts so you don’t bleed to death.

Our Visitors

Our Visitors

On Thursday we had a dietitian and cardiologist come to our class and answer our questions about the heart and our diet.  Miss Jeanette Karam came first at 9:20 and answered our questions on diets and healthy food.  I learned that we should have some carbohydrates in every meal and a healthy lunch has at least four food groups in them.  She also talked about how vegetables have fiber which has anti-oxidants that eat cholesterol.   After that she had a basket of fruits and vegetables and offered some to us.

At 2:20 Dr. Antoine Abchee came and answered our questions on the cardiovascular system.  He brought a model heart and showed us what would happen to your heart if you had certain sicknesses.  I learned that you can burn fat from your arteries by exercising.  Your HDL level goes up and eats the cholesterol and delivers it to the liver.  After that experience I decided to take better care of my heart and health.

My Cat the Goalie

Article posted February 6, 2010 at 08:36 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 803

I have a short-tailed cat named Snowball and she is an outstanding goalie. We named her Snowball because her fur is white. She has a very funny personality, is very sweet and smart. She sleeps outside but when she wants to come in she meows or taps at the door. At first we thought that all she did was sleep but we soon discovered that she loves to play with foil balls. When she wants to play, she hides in her corner waiting for us to roll the ball. When we do she swats it back and rarely misses. We made a video about her playing.

Banana Paradise

On January 11, I was Chef Gousteau and made a plate of Banana Paradise. At first, I sliced some apples and
bananas, then I spread some peanut butter on the apples and stuck them on the bananas. I then took a pastry
tube and squirted grape jelly on the apples. Afterwards, I took a picture.

The excavation

Article posted January 6, 2010 at 07:06 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 522

Yesterday I went digging for dinosaur bones and found a pterodactyl. An archeologist gave me a mini excavation kit, there was a little block made of plaster, clay and dirt. I used five tools: a brush, a chisel, a toothpick, some glue and a needle. It said “dig it out” on the plaster, so I chiseled my way through until I found all the bones then washed them off. The next day, I tried to fit the bones together, I managed to fit all of them except for the wings. I tried to find a place for them in the bones but they didn’t fit. Finally, I tried the ribs and found a dent right where the spinal cord started. The wings fit perfectly. After a while, I glued the bones together. I had broken a bit of the mouth so I glued that to. I took a picture of the dinosaur on my balcony.

This is a description of the book "The Worry Tree" in the form of a newspaper article. I had lots of text to self connections with this book and liked the subject. I would recommend it to people who worry a lot.
