Roadkill Roads
I chose to study how much roadkill was on the roads in Rye/ New Castle from the past three years. My hypothesis was that Washington Road would have the most roadkill because it is one of the main roads in Rye, and it pretty much goes from one end to another.
I discovered that over the past three years a couple of the roads went from being full of roadkill to not much at all, or not much to a lot, or to about the same for all of the years, or to little amount to a big amount but then back to a large amount. The different roads had different effects on how much road kill was on them because some roads are busier than others and there may have been a couple of roads that nobody has been on.
Yeah, I expected that Washington road would have the most road kill and I was right. I expected that Washington road would have the most road kill because it is a very busy road and in a lot of cases you have to go that road to get a lot of places so that was a good place to guess. With most experiments not exactly everything can be accurate so we could have missed a lot of road kill, not gone on every street just things like that.
Next year I predict that maybe there will be more road kill than this year, because maybe it will get warmer out earlier in the year and than more animals will come out. I would also look at more roads and probably go back more years to get more information for more accurate

My inspiration for this shoe project was the beach, because when we started these it was in the middle of winter and I was just waiting for summer to come because it was also snowing

In our individual groups we each got a topic to write about for the 2009 earthcast. My group had pollution. So WREM had to write a paragraph on world pollution prevention and then BHSA had to write about water pollution and a list of ways to prevent it. I, MHRY had to write up a paragraph on the topic of pollution prevention right in your own backyard. It took acouple of days of teamwork and we almost didn't make our deadline but in the end we pulled it together for a spectacular presentation!

Seedfolks
By Paul Fleischman
The whole school read the book Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman. The 7th graders then used some of the characters to make their own seed packets. We had to create a seed packet with a character and their plant. It had to include a title, a quote, pictures, and instructions on how make the plant thrive. We had to make two, one with a character from the book and then another with somebody you know. I chose Gonzalo from the book and my cat Samantha Marie. I chose Gonzalo because I really like how he was always helping his great Tío Juan and that they were always together and it enabled me to talk more about Gonzalo. I also liked how he was very mature for his age. I chose Samantha because she came to mind and I thought that she would make a great seed packet!

Antarctic Flag

I put countries on the flag to represent all of the countries that own bases in Antarctica and that they all signed the Antarctic treaty- which is what my flag is about. I put the saying “Let peace ring” because that is why the treaty was established, so we can keep peace in Antarctica. I used bells and a peace on my flag to enhance the saying “Let freedom ring” so the peace sign represents the peace part let PEACE ring, and the bells are the ring part in let peace RING! I outlined everything in black so it is BOLD and easier to see then the pencil. I used the colors red, gold, and orange for the peace sign because they remind me of peace, I used the gold/orange, for the bells because when I think bells they are always orange/gold, and then I used blue to show the ice, and the waters of Antarctica!
