Nocturnal or Diurnal animals killed

My class is doing a project on roadkill. We’re study the amount of roadkill in Rye and New Castle, New Hampshire from March 9, 2009 –May 3, 2009. Out of our data of what animals were killed I chose to study the variable of if they were nocturnal or diurnal. I figured that this would have to be somewhat of an important variable to our research.

I chose to study this because the amount of drivers and the way they drive definitely varies from night to day. For example some people will drive extra carefully at night always trying to avoid some danger. While on the other hand, some people drive more erratically at night because it’s fun or maybe harder to get caught. What I found was pretty consistent with some of this. There were 31 diurnal animals killed and only 4 nocturnal animals killed.

My data was similar to the hypothesis I prepared. I guessed that since people tend to drive more franticly during the day because they can see better there would be more roadkill. This apparently was right, according to the data. Also, I don’t believe that were any errors in my data concerning nocturnal and diurnal animals killed.

For next year I think the results will pretty much remain the same. But instead, with different numbers just about the same ratios. I’m sure as long as people drive crazier during the day and more “controlled” at night my data won’t be any different.

Seedfolks

In language arts class we’ve been reading this book called “Seedfolks” about a community of immigrants living in run-down Cleveland that start a community garden. They all end up working in it and it really brings their community together, (I guess this inspired our teachers because now our school is making a community garden). So since our class read the book we have to do some sort of project on it. That’s why we have these seed packet-things. The one with what is supposed to look like an eggplant on the front but is called “Ameggplant” is based on the book. You see in the book it talks about certain people planting certain things. So we made a seed packet that combines aspects of their personality with the plant they grew. Since the person I did was named Amir and he grew eggplants I called it “Ameggplant”. The reason I decided to do that person was mainly because I wanted to do a plant that I could easily draw, hence the eggplant. If you’re wandering the other one is about my little sister Colleen. I combined her with ivy because that’s a plant that I think shares aspects of her personality.

The beaker represents the scientific study that takes place in Antarctica. The 12 stars stand for the twelve original countries that signed the Antarctic Peace Treaty. The penguin represents Antarctica because when I think of some image that could stand for Antarctica I think of a penguin. So that’s why I think that makes sense. Lastly, I picked the color blue as a backdrop because since Antarctica’s a peaceful country I used what I thought was a peaceful color. I think it looks nice.

Final Report

1.) Apple: I invested in Apple because it is the most high-tech, expensive, and all-around cool technology company I could think of. So since it’s all those things I thought it’d be a great company to invest in. (Plus if it’s expensive it must make a lot of money.)

McDonalds: I invested in McDonalds because; this is going to sound awful but… Since America is the fattest country in the world and McDonalds is one of the most popular fast-food chains I thought it was a wise investment. (Besides that place is always raking in new dough)

Walt Disney: I invested in Disney because it’s the most popular company for making movies and other means of entertainment. And everyone loves movies! (Plus I personally love Disney movies)

2.) One change I would make to my portfolio is that I wouldn’t invest in a company that makes things that people only use as means to entertain themselves because in a recession people will most likely stop buying them. Because people give up things when money is usually the one of the first things to go are frivolous stuff like movies. So it’s not really wise to invest in a company that makes those things for a living like Disney. Another thing I would change is to put more stock in Apple. Since Apple was the company that gained me the most money despite the times. The last change I would make to my stock portfolio is to maybe next time invest in some kind of grocery store. I’d pick a grocery store because no matter how hard the times are or how much stuff you let go of people will always need food.

3.) Advise I would give to someone interested in the stock market is that in a recession don’t put stock in useless things. I think this because when there isn’t a lot of money going around people will stop spending it on stuff they don’t need. All you’ll be doing is losing money. Another thing is, when it’s not a recession you can put your stock in nearly anything! This is because anything goes in a time when people are flourishing. I’d suggest investing in something that’s very popular or well used. Lastly I would say to spend your money wisely. Don’t throw your money around. If I were you I would spend it on something I know is worth it. If you do that you’ll be just fine.

In Art class we had an assignment where we had to pick a shell out of a basket and draw it in a way that makes it look like it's traveling through space. I picked this shell because, 1) I thought it was a pretty shell, and 2) because I thought it was a nice full shell with a lot of simple designs that wouldn't be too hard to draw but I thought would look nice. I had to attach all of the shells so it would make it sort of look like one shell continously spiraling through space. I thought it came out pretty nicely, but that's just my oppinion.
