Millenium Development Goals

The Millennium Development Goals are 8 goals the UN has decided to strive to achieve by 2015. They involve things such as poverty, hunger, and improved global healthcare. Several of these things are unknown to some people and should be known well. Here is one website about the Millennium Development Goals.

There are 8 Millennium Development Goals; the first Goal is to end poverty and hunger. Another extremely important Goal is to start Universal Education because there are many poor countries where very few people are yet educated, other than extremely wealthy people. The third is Gender Equality. This is another thing many people don't realize is very real still into the modern world. There are still societies that are very unfair for women where women still don't have basic rights, such as voting if the country allows it. The fourth is Child Health. There are many diseases we are given vaccines for as small children and don't realize that in countries where extremely poor people are the main society, children die from diseases we will never get because of vaccinations. The fifth is Maternal Health. This is another very important thing because if a mother is very unhealthy, the child could have birth defects and die, or die because it cannot get the necessary nutrients. The sixth is to combat HIV and AIDS. These are two very dangerous diseases that need to be stopped and destroyed because they are very deadly in many poor countries. The seventh is Environmental Sustainability. We need to keep the environment clean because while this will keep nature alive and thriving, it can also help reduce disease. Finally, Global Partnership is the last and eighth Millennium Development Goal. People need to help each other, especially country to country aid. This is important because these countries are too poor to help themselves.

One project for the Millennium Development Goals is shown in the Global Concerns Classroom. Its concerns involve spreading information about global issues through family, friends, and school. It also encourages people to help the Millennium Development Goals. Here is a link to the website.
