Operation Market Garden : May 1944 Arnhem, Belgium
Operation Maarket Garden in May, 1944 was intended to end the war by Christmas of 1944, but turned into a complete route against the Allies. The Britsh and American paratroopers came raining down from the sky. The Britsh were sent to take Arnhem, Belgium. In the beggining, it went well for the British as they held back German counterattacks at the Arnhem bridge. Eventually, however, the British were surrounded and began to take heavy casualties. At one point, the British started to turn over the wounded to the Germans because they could no longer treat them since they had used up all their medical supplies. After a 7 day siege, the Allies decided to try to pull out. The British managed to slip out of the trap without any casualties to the anger of the Germans. It was also a terrible defeat for the Allies because it meant that the war would now carry over into 1945.
