On this assignment I will inform you about the rollercoaster me and my team made up for a science project. I was the design engineer and my two other friends were the historian and the physicist. I learned Newton’s three laws of motion:
*1) An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by and unbalanced force. An object in motion continues in motion, at the same speed and in the same direction unless acted on by an unbalanced force. This law is often called the law of inertia.
*2) Acceleration is produced when a force acts on a mass. The greater the mass (of the object being accelerated) the greater the amount of force needed (to accelerate the object)))
*3) For every action there is an equal and opposite re-action
This project requires a lot of team work but I and my team did not get along that well. One boy wants to put monsters on the project but I and another girl in my class wanted to be a traditional rollercoaster. The boy in our group wanted to do something to do with the jungle but me and my friend wanted to make it look stormy with gray clouds and purple lightning. We decided that instead of fighting we would just name it the Stormy Jungle! My job was to be the design engineer.
I learned that gravity pulls the car down as the momentum picks up. The speed and momentum often pull the car to the 2nd hill before going in another drop. I also learned that a balanced force results whenever two or more forces act upon an object in such a way as to exactly counteract each other. As you sit in your seat at this moment, the seat pushes upward with a force equal in strength and opposite in direction to the force of gravity. If the seat is suddenly pulled out from under you, then you experience unbalanced force and there is no longer an upward force to balance the downward pull of gravity, so you accelerate to the ground. Friction is a force that resists the motion of an object. Friction results from the close interaction between two surfaces that are sliding across each other. When you slam on your brakes and your car skids to a stop with locked wheels, it is the force of friction that brings it to a stop. Friction resists the car's motion.
Our project in the end was a success and I am proud of our work. Even though we were fighting we worked things out and hopefully get a good grade on it. It was a lot of fun to do this project. I learned a lot of science terms and I love the rollercoaster we made. To improve it we should have took more time on the project and not have rushed it but it still looks great.
