COMP SCI
Our computer science course is moving on to a new topic in our course, Models of Intelligent Behavior. As we break into this topic we will look into two topics: What is Intelligence and Machine Learning
Research and define "What is Intelligence?" Write an article answering the question. Cite at least three sources.
Research simple learning algorithms employed by online retailers where previous purchases lead to suggested purchases.
Create a simple learning algorithm to predict a classmate’s likes/dislikes of songs or clothes based on relevant features. Following your research and algorithm creation, write a blog article discussing how programs can be written to observe patterns of behavior, resulting in modification or a program-controlled activity and its knowledge base.

Following the viewing of the film your task is to answer the following questions as a new blog article.
1. What did most economists and people think about the proper role of the government in the economy during the middle years of the 20th century?
2. How did Milton Friedman feel about that role, and what did he say to convince people of his ideas?
3. Milton Friedman has said that people who put equality of outcomes ahead of liberty often wind up with little of either, but that putting freedom ahead of equality leads to a good deal of both. Can you cite examples of this today? Counterexamples?
4. Some people still believe that it is better for a government to redistribute income among citizens fairly aggressively in order to make sure
people have similar incomes. In the biography, Professor Gary Becker says that Milton Friedman has helped many millions of poor people to lift themselves out of poverty by urging governments to interfere less in people’s economic choices. Who do you agree with? Why?

As we conclude unit two, students begin to explore in more detail the ten principles. For this unit our focus is on supply and demand. The articles for this assignment explore a shift, rather than a movement, in either supply and demand. In the articles, students will define the shift, if the shift is positive or negative, and define the reason for the shift.

As part of our review for our first exam, and to gain familiarity with the process of reviewing news articles for connections to economic issues and thought, our AP Econ and Econ classes are identifying articles that connect to Greg Mankiw's Ten Principles of Economics. The student blog article that connect to this assignment will provide a link to the article and also a brief three-four sentence explanation of how the news article relates to these basic principles. Students should make clear connections and proper use of all terms.

As our Freshman English classes begin reading Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest we begin our discussion by analyzing the narrator Chief Bromden. Our first task is to understand how the Chief describes those items in the ward he sees. To do such our classes described our classroom from the eyes of the Chief. Check out our observations and as always feel free to comment on our views.

With the current political elections free trade and protectionism is making headlines. Below is a link to an Op-Ed article by Steven E. Landsburg, a professor of economics at the University of Rochester. Our class dissected both his opinion and then supported their own opinion. Check out the article below and then look at our opinions.

As a final project our Economics class applies Mankiw's Ten Principles of Economics to an area that interests them. As practice they applied three of those principles to a Stanford Education. Specifically, to Stanford's announcement that middle class students can attend without paying tuition.

English I and English I Pre-AP
While my students have been doing a good job blogging I have not. Last semester we blogged about various pieces of literature. I will try to post briefly about some of these topics; however, I do not want to fall behind again so presently I will be blogging about those assignments we our currently writing.
BioPoem
Following the model I borrowed from other teachers we began our poetry unit by writing a BioPoem or a poem about ourselves.
