The Sound of Music Musical Review

The Sound of Music Musical

On Friday night of this weekend, I went to see the Musical, The Sound of Music, at the Princess of Wales Theatre. It was a Christmas gift from my mom for my brother, my grandma, her, and me. It was probably one of the best musicals that I have ever seen. It was extremely well done, especially the vocals and music. All of the cast had BEAUTIFUL voices, especially the woman who played Maria, and the woman who played The Mother Abbess. It was amazing to see that the kids who played the Captain’s 7 children were so in-character, and that they all danced and sang so beautifully. The youngest girl in the play, Gretl, was played by a 5 year-old! It was so cute when she sang because she had such a little cute voice! When she sang a solo, you could hear the audience kind of sighing because she was so adorable, yet so amazing! I would definitely recommend this play to everyone!

PLOT: The story takes place in 1939 in Austria, and is about a nun, Maria, who is always distracted and always absent or late to chapel. But, she loves singing, and sings all the time. The other nuns start becoming annoyed with Maria, so they send her away to a family with 7 children, and a single dad. At first, they don’t accept Maria, and are trying to do anything to get her out. They are very civilized children, and never have any fun. But, throughout the story, Maria teaches them to sing, laugh, and play, and they begin to love her. But at the same time, she is beginning to fall in love with their father, Captain Von Trapp, who is getting married soon. She decides secretly that it would be best if she left them, so she travels back to her fellow nuns. Meanwhile, the oldest child, Leisl, is falling in love with a boy who is becoming a Nazi. The Nazis are beginning to take over Europe, and their country is already being taken over by the Nazis. The nuns convince Maria to go back to the family, and when she does, they are very happy. Maria and Captain Von Trapp get married, and all is well. But when they arrive back home, they are surprised to find that the Nazis have officially taken-over Austria, and they know that they need to get out, so they arrange to sing at a festival as a family, and when the judges were tallying the votes, they escaped Austria, and everybody lived happily ever after!
