If I Were a Teacher
If I were a teacher I would make a few changes.
If I were the principal......... I would change school hours. Instead of school starting at its regular time 9am I would make school start a whole two hours earlier at 7am. One of the reasons for making school start so early is that school would end a whole two hours earlier. Instead of being dismissed at 3:20pm students would be dismissed at 1:20pm, with this extra time for both student s and teachers there would be much more time to complete work and best of all to have your own time and to do as you please without having to think about time. I would also bring back home economics and leave media studies to the English teacher to teacher, we only have media studies about once a week and even with that we get very little done. Home economics is a very important subject and is often over looked. Home economics teaches students basic skills that they will use their whole life and these skills are often forgotten about at home and our not taught to children. Things as simple as learning how to cook healthy meals on your own are often not taught by parents and children go for that box of cookies instead of make a small healthy meal that will sustain them for much longer.
If I were the math teacher.......... I would starting introducing topics and ideas earlier and start giving harder working earlier. For example I would start introducing BEDMAS earlier in math. Grade six students could just as easily learn BEDMAS as grade eight students. The reason I would do this is to give students a leg up on the competition for getting into high schools and universities. Also I would start to put more repetition into the curriculum. Students are always making silly mistake such as not moving a decimal over in multiplication or forgetting to carry over in subtraction. The easiest way to eliminate this would be to once a day for 5 minutes do a sheet of basic math e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
If I were the English teacher......... I would make reading mandatory. I would enforce one book a month and have students do a book report each month and submit it on the class blog. I would do this because reading is any amazing thing and is something that is fun and you can benefit from greatly. Reading a book is much better than sitting in front of a TV for two hours instead of watching mindless cartons you can get wrapped up in an amazing book and at the same time learn new words and see different views on certain subjects. Also I would have students read other students book reports and hopefully kids would discover new and interesting books that they
would have never found if not for the book blog.
If I were the gym teacher......... I would make health class once a week instead of once every two weeks. Health is a very important subject for many reasons but the most obvious is it talks about our body and how to treat it and what to avoid. Students need to be better informed about their bodies and what to avoid and what to take in. Students need to be more informed on drugs and how they can severely damage your body and how it is very hard to get off of drugs. This can only be done with more classes, it is already hard enough with only one teacher for 30 kids.
