As I have mentioned in previous blogs, prior to this one, I play squash at a competitive level. In the past I have injured myself and have been forced to take a break until I was fully rejuvenated and back to health.
Sadly this problem has occurred once more. Within the last few weeks I have been playing a lot and was recently in a tournament. With so much play time, I am given the chance to excel and become better and learn more about the game, but at the same time with more play time I am more prone to injuries. This is exactly what happened to me, with all of this play time I have re-injured my right arm that I had injured several years ago. When I first injured my arm several years ago I took several weeks off and went to physiotherapy for some time, I also started to practice arm exercise, such as those using a Thera-Band.
After a several week break and some exercise I was back to normal and playing again, but quickly after I recovered I foolishly abandoned using the Thera-Band to strengthen my arm. This time I have taken a week off to let my arm recuperate a bit and I have also been icing twice a day, or at least trying to. On Thursday I went to a physiotherapist to help me bring down the pain a little and to help loosen my muscles.
I was with the physiotherapist for an hour and within that time he looked at my arm and shoulder to see what the problem was, and he massaged the spot where I was in pain. Although the end product was I was relieved of the pain I was in, it hurt a lot. The physiotherapist massaged the spots I was in pain but he pressed down with a lot of force and it hurt a lot. In the end I was left with several bruises but my shoulder and arm felt much better.
I feel better now but am still in some pain. I probably won’t play for another week or so just to make sure my arm properly recovers and that I do not re-injure it.
