One Million Acts of Green

Article posted October 24, 2008 at 06:41 PM GMT • comment • Reads 921

I just received an announcement of a challenge by George Stroumboulopoulis of the CBC production "The Hour". They are challenging people across Canada to engage in acts and behaviours that will make a difference in our environment. Taking care of our world is something that everyone needs to take an active role in. I challenge you to talk to your family and to come up with one or two or more acts and behaviours in your lives that can make a difference. Need some ideas? Check out the website at http://green.cbc.ca. Let me know how you feel about global warming and the use of non-renewable resources and the effects on our environment. What do you plan to do? Let's see if we can help reach one million acts of Green!!!

Federal Election

Article posted October 16, 2008 at 09:23 PM GMT • comment • Reads 360

I am so pleased that we had the opportunity to vote in the Student Vote last Friday. We successfully predicted a conservative minority government. There were over 400,000 students and over 4000 schools participate. The conservatives won 100 seats with 26.8% of the popular vote. The Green Party won 25% of the popular vote but only won 44 seats. The NDP won 66 seats and 23.7% of the popular vote. The Liberal Party won 54 seats and only 19.3% of the popular vote. It is rather confusing and really something to debate. Should we only consider the popular vote, which would mean that the Green Party came in second, or should we only consider the seats? Maybe we should consider a combination of both seats won and popular vote? What do you think? Can you predict the American election?

Saskatchewan Pride

With the passing of Ron Lancaster, number 23, it has made everyone stop and think about his contribution to Saskatchewan, the Roughriders and our spirit and pride in our province. It makes me feel especially proud to be from Saskatchewan and to have such amazing people associated with our history. How do you feel about what either Ron Lancaster has done for our team or the province? What other things make you proud to be from Saskatchewan or from Regina? Thanks Mr. Lancaster.

Black Hole Experiment

Article posted September 10, 2008 at 06:43 PM GMT • comment • Reads 384

The biggest experiment in history will be conducted in the very near future. It has taken 14 years, 10,000 scientists from 85 countries to prepare. They will be accelerating electrons to almost the speed of light in order to have them collide and hopefully recreate the instant of the Big Bang. They are hoping to learn more about the creation of elements and ultimately everything in our universe. They have been speculating that they may also possibly create a Black Hole in the process. Some people have been overreacting and have posted what might happen if it gets too big!! What do you think?
