The ES International Fair is coming soon, on June 8th, to the Green Field.
The Parent’s Committee is organizing this event, and are including the song ‘We Are The World’ by Michael Jackson in their program. This is a sing-a-long for everyone; students, parents and faculty to share, in celebration of our community and our place in the world. We are making these videos and the lyrics available so that we’ll all be ready to join in with full voices and high spirits. Enjoy!
We are the World
(Written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie)
There comes a time when we heed a certain call
When the world must come together as one
There are people dying
And it’s time to lend a hand to life
The greatest gift of all
...
We can't go on pretending day by day
That someone, somehow will soon make a change
We are all a part of Gods great big family
And the truth, you know,
Love is all we need
...
[Chorus]
We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let’s start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
Its true we'll make a better day
Just you and me
...
Send them your heart so they'll know that someone cares
And their lives will be stronger and free
As God has shown us by turning stones to bread
So we all must lend a helping hand
[Chorus]
When you're down and out, there seems no hope at all
But if you just believe there's no way we can fall
Let us realize that a change can only come
When we stand together as one
[Chorus: x2]

On the Grade 3 blog, I posted an article about a book I had read about losing teeth. A teacher in the US saw the article and shared some stories her class had received from others. Here's one of our Grade 1 replies.
Below is what a first grade class does with their teeth that have fallen out. What do you do?
What Grade 1B students do with their teeth that have fallen out:
·Adriana: Sometimes I hide it under my pillow or throw it in the sea.
·Ayesha: Put it under the pillow and in the morning the tooth fairy gives me a gift.
·Mohammad: Throw it in the end of the sea and I say, “Bye, bye, tooth, have a good trip!”
·Kareem H.: I would put it under my pillow or I dig a hole in the beach and put it in.
·Elias: Put it under my pillow and in the morning my mom gives me a gift not the tooth fairy.
·Rebecca: I put it in a small box that my mommy puts her rings in and I put it under the pillow and in the morning I find money, Lebanese pounds.
·Sahar: I put it under my pillow and in the morning I find money.
·Omar: When my tooth falls I’m going to put it in a plane and send it off to Africa or Chicago.
·Yahya: I put it under my pillow and wait all night to see who takes it. I find money in the morning.
·Lea: I put it under my pillow and in the morning I found a present (Soap), I went to the beach and I took a rock and made a hole in the sand.
·Nadim: even though I haven’t lost a tooth yet, but I’m going to start doing what Ayesha does.
·Petra: I collect my teeth in a small box. Now I have one in it.
·Hannah: I put it under my pillow
·Dana: I have a necklace that’s a tooth and I collect my teeth in it. I’m selecting tooths (collecting teeth). I went to the dentist and he told me to push my tooth in and I have to brush
·Danielle: I bit into an apple to take my first tooth out and I found it in the apple and I went to my mom and said, “I lost a tooth!” and me and my sister wrote a letter to the tooth fairy and drew a fairy on it. I put the tooth and the letter under my pillow and I got a present.
·Zeid: When I lost my first tooth, my nanny was making me sleep and my tooth was wiggling and I went to my mom and said “My tooth fell!!”
·Ayesha: Why do tooth fairies want our teeth? (She asked this and then students gave their answers.)
o“I think they use teeth to make money” (Adam)
o“Use them to give the other kids gifts and with their magic they turn them into gifts” (Ayesha)
o“They just like to collect them” (Elias)
o“They turn them into stars” (Karim Z.)

All ES teachers and students are registered for the World Education Games. Attached is your child’s individual log-in and password; it works for both games. Online practice is available from now until the actual “Day”. Participating in the competition is not really stressed, but practicing math skills is encouraged.
This site also opens up the world of geography to the children, as they play against students from around the world. Basic information on each country is also provided.
We’ll be accessing the games from school, at times, but certainly are hoping the students will be accessing from home too! Enjoy!!

We sure did have fun eating breakfast and then dancing on the roof! It was a wonderful way to start our week of celebrating Lebanon and all the Arabic learning that is going on.

You'll be needing to think about getting ready for school, pretty soon. I hope you've been doing some reading during this long vacation. Maybe Annie and Moby can help you find a book that's just right for you.

To those celebrating this Eid, Eid Mubarak.
To all of you, have a wonderful 5-day vacation from school. See you on Thursday, December 11 (Day 5).
My husband and I are leaving Beirut in just a little while for a visit to his family. If you post an article or comment over the next few days, please be patient. I don't know if I'll have Internet connection or not. I will approve your postings when I can.

Grade 1B has donated a lot of rice! They were working on FreeRice (English Vocabulary and Math) and were able to donate many grains of rice. Below are the results of about 20 minutes of their "work".

While at home for the next few days, consider watching the Brain Pop Jr. Movie of the Week. It's all about Thanksgiving. And when you're finished with the Thanksgiving movie, consider playing some Thanksgiving games and some additional BrainPopJr games.

Early in the morning, out on the KG2 playground, you might see some pretty active jump ropers. Some of us are even using jump-rope rhymes that we have found in the book, Anna Banana 101 Jump-Rope Rhymes by Joanna Cole.
Here are just a few of the rhymes:
Candy, candy in the dish.
How many pieces do you wish? One,two, three, four, five, ...
My mother made a chocolate cake.
How many eggs did it take? One,two, three, four, five, ...
My little sister dressed in pink
Washed all the dishes in the sink.
How many dishes did she break? One,two, three, four, five, ...
Cinderella dressed in red
Went downstairs to bake some bread.
How many loaves did she bake? One,two, three, four, five, ...
The book is really fun; check it out from our Lower School Library.

Your teachers have been busy!
On Friday, November 7, ACS students had a day off. While the students were off, the teachers had an opportunity to participate in the Mini-NESA 2008 Conference. We had a lot of elementary school teachers presenting. Congratulations to all of the ACS presenters! The article in the newspaper, Lebanese, Syrian and Jordanian teachers attend workshops hosted by ACS, shows a picture of Dr. Damon welcoming our keynote speaker, the Lebanese Education Minister Bahia Hariri. So, while you were having a day of vacation, know that we were attending a conference and learning more to share with you!
Mabruk to Mrs. Boubess, Miss Nermeen and Miss Lina, also to Mr. Moore, Mr. Owyang, Miss Yara, and Mrs. Aboulhosn!
