Obituary Hoax

Article posted May 21, 2009 at 06:40 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 299

You always hear me telling you to check your sources for accuracy, authority, and to see where the facts come from.  If not, you may look very foolish, as many newspapers did when they used a hoax inserted into a wikipedia article.  Read about it and http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Irish-student-hoaxes-worlds-apf-15201451.html?.v=1 and respond.

Tech - what's new?

Article posted May 7, 2009 at 01:48 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 276

We benefit when we act as a collective brain. During our last class I shared some tech news with you; please find an article on some new tech event or information and blog about it.

This cartoon comes from  the Joy of Tech @ http://www.sizlopedia.com/wp-content/uploads/blog-comics-joytech.jpg. ; Remember to get in the habit of citing your sources.  It allows you to revisit a site you may have forgotten the link to, and more importantly, you are respecting copyright and intellectual property rights.

TV Viewing or Consumer brainwashing

Article posted May 1, 2009 at 01:35 PM GMT0 • comment (1) • Reads 252

Television has changed in your lifetime.  No longer do you need to wait until Wednesday rolls around and the clock strikes nine to watch your favorite programs.  You can watch what you want, when you want, wherever you want (provided that you have a device like an I-Pod, Palm Pilot, I-Phone, computer, etc.).  What is good - and bad -l about this?  Also, what do you think it means for children to watch channels owned by Hasbro?  A new merger between Discovery Channel and Hasbro will bring shows like "G.I. Joe" and "Transformers" to young viewers.  What do you think will happen to the sale of Hasbro toys.  And lastly -- do you think you are immune to the rampant consumerism of T.V.?  I think, even though HULU is poking fun at itself, that it has a point.  If the link provided does not work, just go to youtube.com and put HULU+Alec Baldwin and view a commercial.  Please blog about the content - it is "tongue in cheek" but what is probably true?
