It's All Fun and Games (03/23/09)
|
| Description:
|
How incredible was our visit from a real “Indian”, or first American! We learned a lot about Native Americans culture, we watched movies showing how they were treated, their dances, music, stories and even their games.
What do you think was the most important of what we learned? What would you want to tell the world to educate them most about what we learned? Would you recommend this experience be brought back next year? Why or why not? Be specific and support your choice with details.
Challenge from Mr. D – If it were possible, what other culture would you most like to learn about from a guest speaker? For example, if you wanted to learn Eskimo culture from a real person speaking to us of Eskimo origin.
Please also comment on the blogs of other students in our class. We really have some great writers that want to hear from you! Follow the direction sheet if you have any questions.
Make sure that you TRIPLE check your blog and your comments for proper capitalization, grammar, punctuation and spelling!
***Remember that a blog is NOT a journal. What you write can and will be viewed by other people, so DO NOT put any sensitive or personal information!***

I think that the most important thing that we learned from the Native American was that even if you come from a different place in the world or if you have a different color skin, you should be treated the same as others.
I would tell the world to not try to be like other kids even if you are different. I want those kids or adults to just be themselves and do what they want to do.
I would recommend this experience be brought back next year because maybe we could learn about a different culture or religion and we could learn what they cooked and how they reacted around other people. We could also learn about the history of that culture and religion and how it got started.

A real Native American came to our school to teach us about his culture. We watched a movie showing how they were treated and we played fun games. I think the most important thing that we learned is that Native Americans had a very hard life when they were young and we should be thankful to have things much easier now. If the Native Americans did have things that we have now, each family would have to make them, but we can go up to the store and buy it. For example: they had to make their own knives, but we can buy one at the store. To educate people the most I would tell the world that we waste food that can feed the world for a day! The Native Americans never even wasted a bit of their animal meat or any other food. They ate every single part of the animal. They made tools and necklaces out of animal bones. The Native Americans used the fur for clothing, blankets etc. I would recommend that this experience be brought back next year because you really get to learn a lot about Native Americans and their culture and mostly because it was really fun. Challenge Answer: I would like to mostly learn about the Greek culture from a guest speaker.

I think the most important thing that we learned was that Native Americans prefered to be called Indians believe it or not. I would want to tell the world most that of how they prefer their names and also about how they got taken away from there families at the age of 4. There is also one more I would like to tell them is that they wear all animal fur and feathers and they only eat fish, meat, and the three sisters which is corn beans and sqaush. I would recommend for them to come next year because the museum was amazing and wayons stories. I think next years class will really enjoy . If I were to choose another person to speak with us from another culture would be an Irish person because i'm Irish and I love learning about Ireland even if I already know it.

A few days ago, a real Native American/Indian came to our school! His name is Uayan although many people write it as Wayan. He taught us how to make clay pots, and sang a song to us. He even told me that his ancestors were the Indians that first met Cristopher Columbus! I liked the day with the Native American. My favorite part was their tools. One of them was a stick with bags tied to it and inside the bags were rocks. But my VERY favorite tool was the spear and how you carried hunting bags so you can keep switching spearheads. It was so awesome.

1.I think the most important thing was survival.
2.What I would tell the world to educate them is that I learned that the indians were forced to give up the homes they owned and also the're children.
3.Yes,so then they too can learn more about indians and have fun.

The most favorite part that I loved was when the American Indian sang the friendship song, and when we did the clay project. After Mr.D gave out our clay pots, I used it as a pencil holder with a little stand so the pot cold balance itself. That was my most favorite parts of the day! Thank you for reading my blog! Michelle :-)

Helloooooooo. On Monday, my class got to see a real “Indian’ or first American. I think the most important thing we learned was when kids were young, how bad they were treated. If I wanted to educate the world about what my class learned in one sentence it would be, that if you haven’t played one game that the Indians played, you’re missing out on a lot of fun. I would recommend this for the next fourth grade, because it’s education and fun. Finally, if it were possible, another culture that I would like to learn about is the Jewish culture. Byeeeeeeeeee

Recently we had a Native American come to our school. The most important thing we learned (My opinion) is that if you were a Native American child and you did something wrong, you would be told a story, not beaten. I would tell the world about Native Americans by saying "Native Americans are very frugal and do not waste. Women were in charge of villages and when the Europeans came, many Native Americans died from the dieases the Europeans brought. I would definietly recommend the experience to next year's class because you can learn more and it is very fun. I had an AWESOME time=http://!!!!

Hi! The most important thing that I learned is that some parts of books don't have the right infromation. I want everybody to go to a school that makes them happy.I would recommend the Native American man should come back next year, because you can learn a lot and have fun at the same time. You can make claypots, smash corn, touch furs, see Native American clothes, and hear a story from the Native American man!

We learned about how many of the Indians went to boarding schools. They also had drums that were filled with water and played music. The world should know that terms native American or Indian both desribe the same people. I would recommend this experience so other students can learn about their culture. One example of this culture is that the Indians like making clay pots. Maybe we can have a visit from an African tribe member. I would want to know if their is still cannibalism among many tribes.

The Indians are good people in this world. The Indians were treated badly by the Europeans. The Europeans brought many diseases to kill the Indians. Many Indians died. I would recommend this to others because it was great to learn about Indian culture. They taught their children a lesson in life. I would want to learn Italian culture because it is were my ancestors are from.

On Monday March 22 a Native American ( Indian) came to my school. Hetold us all of these thing I never knew about Native Americans ( Indian). The most important thing he told us is along time ago Native Americans had to be taken away by their family at the age of 4 and up and had to go to this very very very mean school. I bet I couldn't last a day there. They couldn't even see there family until they graduate and if they spoke in there on language they would get spanked. And one more thing that was important was they would like to be called Indians instead of Native Americans. If I told the world about the most important thing he told us is about the school they went to. Yes I think Wayan or someone else should come back to the school because he would tell the 4th graders what is most important about them.
Challenge: The other cultures that I would like to learn about is Italians, Irish and Germans because those cultures are in my blood.

My class, on Monday was visited by a real Native American! I didn’t get to see him because I was absent, but if I did I know what I would have asked him. file:///C:UserssrlabAppDataLocalTempmsohtml11clip_image001.jpg" o:href="http://www.google.com/images?q=tbn:wgKZKLRudj-YeM::laureltarulli.files.wordpress.com/2007/10/native_american_girl.jpg">
I would have asked, first, “Where did you grow up?”, “Were you in a clan?”, “Did you have to hunt for living?” I would be really excited to meet a Native American. I’m kind of depressed because I really was looking forward to meeting him, but still I’m glad the rest of my class got to see him.
When I told my mom and brother about the Native American man my brother came up with the idea that maybe I can have a Native American come to my birthday. He can show us how to make tools and ‘Dream Catchers’. The birthday would be themed like Native American days. It is a good idea, but I need to think about it first.
If we studied a type of culture I would pick cultures from the countries India and China. These two cultures, I think, are very interesting. The modern times in both cultures are very interesting and they are popular. The past is something amazing to learn. These would be good cultures to talk about.

This year we learned about the Native Americans. The most important thing we learned was about their culture and how they took care of their children. The way they took care of their children is by carrying them on their backs when they were working. I would tell the world that these people were very hardworking. Next I would like to learn about the Native Australians, Alborigians. I think that would be fun!!!

Hi! I think the most important thing I learned from the presentation was that girls should be the leaders, not boys! So, tell your parents to vote for a lady as the president in 4 years! The boys shouldn't be the the leaders because the boys like wars and guns, not girls. I would reccomend this experience next year but earlier in the year, around when we're studying Native Americans. I learned so much! I would like someone who is related to someone from Colonial America to come in and teach us about the colonial times. Anyways, got to go!

I think we learned a lot from the Jacolope story, how it lost it horns nad how it became a rabbit. I would tell them about how Native Americans were treated in the past and how they survived and fought. Yes because you would get a lot of hands on experience and kowledge and fun! I think we should learn about Korea not just because it is my country, but because a lot of people forget that country when they think of east Asia

On Monday March 22 a native american came to the school. The entire 4th grade came to see him. I heard 2 educational but kind of boring lectures from a lady named mady. After the first lecture we went to hear a story and learn some cool new games that the native americans played. After the 2nd lecture we went back to the native american to make clay pots. Also at the beginning we saw a video of native american life. I wish the native american could talk about what happened when the europeans took over the land. Those are native facts.

Hey, I was soo excited when I heard that the Native American Dude was coming. My class has been waiting since the cavemen appeared . I think the most important thing I learned from him was that when you were in school and you were talking for even less than 30 seconds you eather get hit with a ruler or... RRRRRRUUUUUUNNNNNNN the guy was talking one day and he did not want to get hit so he ran 3 MILES! and the teacher was running beside him. Did you know that when you did somthing bad/wrong instead of your parents hitting you they would tell you a folktale of what you did rong. Yes I would recomend this very important experience be brought next year because they told us that in most of the books that you read they are wrong or they stretched the truth. So they tell you the real thing because they have a video of them with people.

This is your tour guide speaking. We will take a journey to the history of America. The whole forth grade in my school got to meet a Native American. My class learned many things, but I think the most important thing we learned is that we should follow their example and live in peace, share everything, work together, and don't compete with each other. I think everyone should do the same thing and praise nature for giving our home, the Earth. Well this tour is over. Bye!
