As an end-of-the-year activity, I'd like to invite you to recommend books to each other! I'll get the ball rolling with some of the books that I have read and would like to recommend to you (even though I've already recommended these books to you in class).

Redwall, by Brian Jacques
This was a very fun book of fantasy and adventure. I was interested right from the beginning. It involves a war between the mice (the good guys) and the rats (the bad guy, led by the evil "Cluny the Scourge"). This is actually the beginning of a long series of books.
Very high recommendation from me on this one, especially if you are a boy, and like adventure and fantasy.

Choosing Up Sides, by John H. Ritter
A very interesting book about a boy who is left-handed, and has lots of natural talent in baseball, particularly pitching. This is a terrible predicament to be in for him, because his father is extremely conservative in his religious beliefs that everyone should be right-handed. No one should use their left hand dominantly, certainly not in pitching baseball! Unfortunately, his dad believes that certain parts of Scripture mean this. Eventually, he rebels against his dad's rules, with the help of his uncle, who is more open-minded. It's an exciting journey through the conflict of this boy's discovery of himself, his beliefs, and his natural strengths.

Travel Team, by Mike Lupica
A great sports book! The main character, Danny, is a kind of underdog basketball player who is in about 6th grade. His dad was a superstar in the community back in his time. Now, it's Danny's turn to shine, but his natural talent isn't as promising. However, what he might lack in obvious talent, he more than makes up for in heart. Giving more detail would be too much of a spoiler, so I'll just end by saying that if you like "Rocky", "The Mighty Ducks", or some of the classic sports dramas, then you'll definitely like this book! I'm excited to buy the next Mike Lupica book, "The Big Field", which just came out.

I have more recommendations, but I'll just leave it at these three for now.
What I want you to do is to look through your reading list for the year and recommend to us your top 3 or 4 books. Use what I've done here as a model.

I just found a great website that helps teach typing! It's called TypeRacer. You are given a passage to type, and random people are competing with you at the same time.
I like the fact that it's an actual passage (real English words and sentences), rather than made up collections of letters. While you need to have practice with certain sets of letters as you are learning how to type, this is a lot more engaging than nonsense letters!
If you make an error, you are "stalled" until you go back and fix it. This is also a lot more like real life. Usually, I know when I've mistyped something, and fixing it right away is what I usually should do, rather than just plow ahead and fix the mistake later.
