When I first met my buddy I thought she was a very nice person. She was shy at first but when she knew us better she became very happy. She told me that her favourite animal was a gold fish. I really enjoyed hanging around with her. She treated me like a good friend. I hope to see her again next week.

My white rhino report

Article posted October 12, 2010 at 10:14 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 191

White Rhinos are very quiet in zoos. The reason why White Rhinos are endangered is because they are hunted for their horns. The White Rhino are related to the horse and tapir families.

Habitat

White Rhinos live in the African Savannah or the grassland of Eastern Southern Africa. They live with a few trees and it’s too dry for forests to grow in the Savannah grasslands. It rains three months a single year in the savannah grasslands too.

Diet

The White Rhino are herbivores that mean they only eat plants. White Rhino’s main diet is grass; the grass they eat would be up to 50.8 inches (20cm) high.

Behaviours

The young baby Rhino does not play and run away from his or her mother. It stays very close to its mother. Sometimes the adult Rhino can get very disturbed and annoyed by all sorts of things like its babies, people and others.

Appearance

Hair: The hair is made out of ear fringes and also tail bristles.
Horns: The front horn is about 60-150cm long, longer than its black horn. A male’s horn is thicker than female horns.
Lip: The lip of a White Rhino is about 20cm long, the upper lip of a White Rhino is shaped like a square and some people call a White Rhino, ‘a squared lipped rhino.’

Climate

The climate change affects the White Rhino by droughts; it puts them in danger if the waterholes dry up which means they have to travel until they find water.

Found

The White Rhino are found in eastern and Southern grasslands of Africa.

Classified

All animals have species like a White Rhino it’s:
Class: Mammalian
Kingdom: Animalia
Name: Ceratotherium simum-squared lipped Rhino
Order: Perissodatyla
Family: Rhnocerotidae
Phylum: Chordata

Threats

Humans have threatened the White Rhino by cutting their horns and selling them, they also use them for Asian sword handles. They leave White Rhinos to die after they finish cutting off their horns.

Predators

• An Adults predator is humans and a calf’s predator is tigers, lions and humans.
• Humans are mostly to blame because the White Rhinos horns getting cut off by them.

Bred in Captivity

The new dangers for White Rhinos in captivity are that there is not enough space and it’s hard to breed when people are around. Also mothers and babies should stay in a different cage than fathers.

Habitat

The White Rhinos natural habitat is unsafe because there are poachers wandering around. Al
so you don’t get given food in the wild, you have to find food yourself. There is not a lot of room in the wild than the zoos.

The White Rhino is being killed mostly by humans; humans kill them for their horns. White Rhinos are wonderful creatures and we should stop killing them because soon they will become extinct.

Get out of the house

My skeleton plot writing sample.

An old, broken school hall was for sale. No one knows, but there living in the school hall was a staff of terrifying ghosts, lovely servants and an ugly looking butler. The sad part is that the ghosts can’t leave the school hall.

It is very important to the ghosts that the ghosts like their new owners. If the ghosts have to share the hall they feel the ghosts should decide who moves in or not! A lot of people came to the school hall looking around deciding if they want to buy the hall or not. First a family of four comes in, but the ghost’s scares them away by making scary sounds. Then a head teacher comes, the ghost’s scares her by letting out the huge spiders that they kept around in circles screaming for a long time, then she finally ran outside.

At last a lovely beautiful young couple came in through the cracked, broken doors and looked around the school hall, “Wow this hall, it looks so beautiful” said the lady, in a flash the ghost interrupted and tried to scare them but it would not work. “Hello, would you ghosts like to be friends” said the couple, eventually they made friends and talked and talked all night, but at midnight the young couple went home “will you be back tomorrow?” said the ghosts politely “Yes we will” said the couple and went through the door. The next day the young couple bought the school hall. The ghosts talked on the couple’s jobs and helped them live happily together in peace, living in their new home as they dreamed to be.

Phantom Couch

Today I am going to tell you a true story that happened in 1887 about 20 years ago. Since then I’ve never told anyone this story before. One day I was out walking all by myself and I realised that I was lost, the worst part was when it started to snow really hard. I knew that I couldn’t last one night in the open without food and water, just then I saw a bright and yellow, big and beaming light shining in the air. I made my way towards it and saw a rusty, old house standing on the white, crunchy snow with the light on top of it. In the house I was given food, water and shelter to sleep in.

The man that owned the house was really strange, he told me a story about a mail coach that died that very night but three years earlier. He told me that a mail coach was travelling in a snow storm, all of the horses slipped and the mail coach fell over a dreadful, high cliff, the six men inside the coach had all died. The weather seemed okay so I decided to leave the house and go home. The old tired man said that I will meet the mail coach if I set off right now and pass the cliff onto the crossroads. It will take about one whole hour languishing in the snow but one of the mail coaches would stop and give me a ride to home of course. When I left I was very frightened and I also felt very strange too.

“Oh, No,” I said. I realised that I had lost track of time. I was so relieved that while I was walking I heard a mail coach coming right behind me. It stopped and I asked them if they can drive me home, the both nodded their heads. I climbed in the coach and it was very dark but I could see three men sitting in the coach. I tried to make a conversation with them but no-one would talk to me. Something was very wrong with the coach and the three men inside the coach. It tired to open the door but it was locked.

“Ahhhhhhhahhhhahah.” I heard the sound of screaming coming from somewhere. I felt that I was flying and then I was passed out. I woke up at bed in home. A man told me that I had been found in a snow drift right where the coach crashed three years earlier. No-one and nothing else was found there.

Scarecrow

Article posted June 22, 2010 at 10:32 PM GMT0 • comment • Reads 226

James, John, Mum and Dad all went on a holiday to the old rented cottage in Bluff. The cottage belonged to their grandparents. When they arrived at the gate and saw the cottage James shouted out “Man this cottage looks ugly,” but his mum told him off. In the farmer’s field right next to the cottage was a scary and stuffed, ugly and languishing scarecrow. Mum said to the children not to play with the scarecrow because it looked dangerous. It was so scary the children agreed.
At night time John had to sleep on the couch because his brother and mum and dad wanted to sleep in the rooms, so he had no choice. The next morning the family went out into the wide, dull woods, but John didn’t go with his family, instead he went into the kitchen to cook himself a juicy, delicious eggs and bacon. Just then the phone rang so John answered it, “Hello,” said John. No-one said anything, only noisy, hard breathing sounds. So John hangs up. John gets really scared, “what if someone is watching me, what if,” John was thinking. So John ran back to the window just to see if anyone was out there. When he looked out the cracked, dry window the scary, dangerous scarecrow wasn’t there.
John was so terrified, “Where was the scarecrow?” he thought. He looked out the window trying to see where the scarecrow was. He turns on the TV but the TV was not working. Just then he heard someone pound on the old, hard door, so John looked out the window to see if anyone was there. No-one was there. John tried ringing his mum but she wouldn’t answer her phone. Instead he heard it ringing from the master bedroom so he runs all the way up to the master bedroom.
When John got to the master bedroom, he froze. “Ahahahah,” he stared screaming because in the master bedroom he saw a big and ugly, scary and dreadful scarecrow just staring at him through the window. While he was screaming he heard his mum’s phone ringing. So he stopped screaming and answer the phone. “He…lloo who’s this speaking,” said John talking like a boy stuck in a haunted house. “Ha Ha Ha,” said someone on the phone.
Who was John really talking to?

Tui Ridge Park is the best! Let me tell you about it.
When Georgia’s dad was driving Belinda, Hannah, Georgia and myself to Tui Ridge Park, all of us felt really excited. We all sat there talking about what we all did in the holidays a long time ago. When we got there it felt like a dream come true. On Tuesday my group and myself went to the Flying Fox. I really liked the Flying Fox, it’s the best thing ever! While I was waiting for my turn I saw some of my group zooming like a speedy cheetah down the wire. When it was my turn I put on the harness. It was really heavy. As I was climbing up the stairs I felt really scared. I hope I don’t fall down and die. Thankfully I didn’t. As Chris hooked me up to the Flying Fox I still felt really scared. As I got pushed down I felt like a fish getting chased by a shark. My favourite part was how I went down blind-folded. I really liked the Flying Fox, it’s the best.
