We learned about the sun, moon, stars, and planets. We made an astronaut and wrote about it. We went to the Planetarium and saw the show "Our Place in Space".

We celebrated Read Across America by having guest readers every day, we dressed up as the Cat in the Hat, and we got to dance with Clifford and the Cat in the Hat in our classroom. We had a lot of fun!

Our class got to vote for their favorite snack. In their cooperative groups they had to come up with a snack to vote on. They came up with Chocolate Chip Cookies, Cheetos, Brownies, and Ice Cream. They had to complete their ballot and cast their vote for their favorite snack. After tallying up the votes, we completed a tally chart and a bar graph. The class voted and Ice Cream was the winner. I brought in ice cream for the class to have for snack.
Our class also got to vote for President. Once again they had to complete their ballot and cast their vote. Obama received seven votes and Romney six votes. Obama was the winner.

For Halloween we dressed up in our costumes. We paraded all around school in our costumes then went back to our classroom for a Halloween party. We ate a lot of goodies and danced the afternoon away. We had a lot of fun!

We are learning about pumpkins. We observed pumpkins and drew the outside and inside of a pumpkin, we estimated and counted the lines on a pumpkin, we estimated and measured the circumference with yarn (then used unifix cubes), we estimated and counted the seeds, we estimated and weighed the pumpkin, we estimated and checked whether pumpkins float or sink. We had a lot of fun being scientists.

This week is Fire Safety Week and we will be learning about fire safety all week. Today the fire department came and taught us about fire safety. They showed us all the tools that you find on a fire truck and what they are for. Going on the fire truck and ambulance was a lot of fun.

We were excited and nervous to go to first grade. We made a crayon person on the first day, took a tour of the school, and met our teacher Mrs. Rieger. We get to go to PE, Art, Music, Library, and the Computer Lab. We made a lot of friends. First grade is going to be a lot of fun!
